Could a dwarf honey gourami or a appistogramma live with them since they're smaller than other gouramis and cichlids?
@@fishy_vinny Maybe the honey gourami, I am unsure with the Apistogramma I think they might eat them...
Went to the pet store today to look at some ember tetras, I saw this tiny little discoloured fish at the top of the tank and he was much smaller then any of the tetras. After a couple of minutes I recognized the fish and it was a small chilli rasbora and they said they sold out of them about a week ago and never saw him. I’m hoping to eventually get him some friends but for now he seems much happier and is eating a lot ❤️
Aww that is such a shame, they really don’t show their true colours until they are settled down. I hope you get some soon!
Some good tankmates for them are shrimps and snails as they will eat very new baby shrimp but out of like 30 shrimp they might pick out 2-7mor more depending on how many hiding spots there are

I’ve had my TDS range from 190-332 ppm and 21-23C with no heaters in a heavily planted 2gal long, and they’re thriving. They do like to hide darting in and out of cover.

@@taqveem i did buy them!! It's a gorgeous tank and they are so peaceful together the panda corys even bred! Started with 6 now i have 9. They are so bright and I love how they school together. I eneded up getting 20 and watching them swim and eat together is entrancing. 10/10 recommend.

It’s great when you have that kind of relationship with your LFS! Those chillis are going to have so much space in your aquarium!
After watching this went out and checked on the Ph for the rasboras I’ll be using in the Sonoran Desert river ecosystem tank I’m setting up in the Spring…old lady bones have to thaw… my 7.3 water is fine for them…phew! I end up very attached to the critters who live with me and would be devastated if harmed them! Great video!

They should be okay as long as you don't have big Gouramis!

These are beautiful! I to have tried to buy them here in Texas but, every one of them have died. Some were sick so I was glad I had them in a hospital tank at 1st. Others simply wouldn't eat.
They can be a tricky fish to keep, try treating them for internal parasites and feed the rest of baby brine!

I've just started keeping Chili Rasboras, and my biggest challenge is getting them to live past a few days. My first batch from a LFS 8 out of 10 of them survived, and are still thriving (though not as vibrantly colored as yours). The next LFS that had them I picked them up, and out of 10, only one survived. I couldn't find anymore locally, so I bought some online. This time about half of them survived. Then finally, I bought from another online retailer and 6 out of 9 survived.
I am an experienced fish keeper, but I struggle with these guys during the first week. Beyond that, they're great! My water is a bit hard out of the well, so I mix it 50% with RO water. That gives me a PH between 7.5 and 7.8, GH of 5, and a KH of 3. This has been great for my Orange Rili and Cherry Red shrimp. Is that PH too high and likely what is killing them? I don't really like to buffer the water parameters, but perhaps on the next batch I get I'll use peat and indian almond leaves to drop the PH lower and see if they survive longer. Then perhaps with small water changes they'll more gradually adapt to the higher PH in my water.
I was told to drip acclimate these guys, and that hasn't seemed to affect my varying success. Another fish keeper told me that as soon as you open the bag, oxygen rushes in and activates any ammonia in the water, shocking the fish, and thus he recommends floating the unopened bag, then immediately netting and dumping them in once the bag is opened. Perhaps I'll try that next time, especially if using as lower PH water that will likely be less for them to adapt to.
I struggled to find a good lfs that sold these rasboras, most of the time the main cause of death in my experience has been internal parasites. I think your pH is also a little bit too high for these delicate fish, so that might be a problem too. I have heard about that issue with the ammonia in the bag but never experience it, i also find drip acclimation is the best method as it gets the fish used to the new water conditions they will be living in.
@@KrishsAquariums thanks for the reply! I was lucky enough to find some at a LFS, and he had them for a few weeks. He also has a high PH like mine. He too recommended temperature acclimating and then putting them right in after opening the bag, so that's what I did. So far so good, 24 hours later. I'll report back if that changes.

Hi, great video of Information. I just brought 30 of these little guys as im moving towards a nano style tank (180L) and the biggest issue I have right now is that they all seem to group together top corner of tank and don't go elsewhere.
I've also added the spotted dwarf rasbora and the emerald dwarf rasbora as other nano fish.
I have panda and Venezuela Corydoras as my bottom dwellers along with some marble hatchet fish.
Did you notice this behavior with yours? I was hoping they would use the whole tank. It has live plants (java fern varieties) and spider driftwood.
Any advice you could give would be awesome
Maybe there too much flow in your aquarium? It’s a bit of an odd thing to see!
I haven’t had this issue with my Rasboras, most of time they ate at the top level of the aquarium!
I have the same issue with my chilis, they hover in one area only. Sometimes its by the bubbles of the sponge filter. What kind of filters do you guys use. Should I be using a hob filter and sponge also?
So if I may ask how many chili rasboras would you keep in a 5 gallon aquarium which is a vertical Marine land portrait aquarium which I believe to be about 8” x 8” x 16” tall Fully planted. Right now I only have five. I also have one Cooley loach and a hill stream loach. This was a take I kept a betta fish in But he died four months ago.
I would say 10 in total.
Planning on getting 13/15 of these as tank mates for my corydoras in my 15 gallon. Just need to save up first
That is great size group to have. Yeah they can be a bit expensive but worth it!

I had a school of 70 i remained with 10 for a long time. Now im breeding them . Keep them only with shrimp and pygmie corydoras

I use then for my shrimp tank, they provide waste for the shrimp to eat and there as lethal as the harmless ottocunclus.
Exactly, there mouths aren’t way to small to harm shrimp!

shoal of Brigittae.... but am still not sure on how many would be the wright amout... Tank is 75 litres (20 galons) but is low and long One meter lonng 25cm (10inches) and 30cm hight (12inches) ... Do you think 30 would be to much ? I am not planing on having anyone else in that tank...
You could easily have 30, you could try 40, that would be a nice school to have in your tank!

With that lw kh and gh ...should I use RO/DI water and just enhance it by a tiny bit? What about ph changes caused by low KH? Thanks to whoever bothers to answer :)
If you live in an area with hard water, use RO to soften it. I believe low KH causes pH swings.
I've got some recently, but they don't seem to be very red in colour. Does it take time for them to turn bright red? They're currently only red in the middle spot and pretty much transparent one
I had some that looked orange at the start and as they matured they got more red in colour. You may have a different species of rasbora too, I had this too!

@@KrishsAquariums cool! im leaning towards the chilis b/c of the schooling too. I inherited a jet lily pipe, and you mentioned that they don't do well in high flow. Would a regular lily pipe be sufficient? I still want to have a decent flow because I'm doing a dutch-style-esque tank.
I just switch over from a spin pipe to a normal lily pipe, they struggled alittle bit but now they seem to doing great again!
I have a fluval spec v with about 6 cherry shrimp and 2 nerite snails. could I keep any of these guys with them?
You could get 5/6 in there!
I was wondering, i’m relatively new to this hobby and therefore lack knowledge, i’ve heard of many rules of thumb as to how many fish to keep in a tank. I wanted to ask just for some reassurance. I wanted to keep 6 chilli rasbora, some sort of nano bottom feeder which i can add maybe 3 of, and another schooling fish which is around the same size of the chilli rasbora that I could add maybe 5-6 of. I have a 10 gallon, non planted tank with barely any decor. It is 80 F, can filter 90 gallons an hour. The substrate is just black sand from topfin. I have tropical fish food but am willing to feed other things. Any recommendations?
I’m a tank that size you could probably get 10 nicely, they will be more comfortable. I would be careful if you are new to the hobby, chili Rasboras can be a little bit delicate so acclimate them carefully.

I did 7 chili rasboras with 3 glass cats 2 snails 1 german blue ram and 3 corys. (spotted and tiny i forget name) in 10 gallon

I think it’s alittle bit overstocked, rams and glass catfish do need larger tanks, in my opinion
Do you think a set of 8 would do well in a heavily planted 9 gallon Fluval Flex with one dwarf gourami?
I think they would work as long as the gourami isn’t too big!

Your cherry shrimp do well in really soft water? I was wanting some Shrimp and these fish, but then got to thinking that my water was way too soft for the shrimp?
My water is hard and the cherry shrimp have been doing good. Soft water can affect the shrimp when moulting. You can keep these in hard water if you acclimate them slowly for a long time by the drip method
I have cherrys in 6.5 ph in a few tanks and in pure rain water and they do fine. If you can buy some from a local breeder they will be fine. They seem to adapt over time. The first few I bought didn't thrive but the next generation exploded!

I'm surprised you have CPDs in the same tank with them. I thought CPDs required a higher pH? I keep both but in different tanks, just curious to know your water parameters.
I think CPDs prefer a pH of around 7. My pH is around 6.5 and my water is hard. Both fish are doing pretty well!

@@KrishsAquariums I'm thinking about getting a male and female honey gourami, so they will probably be 2-3 inches long. Also, Would 4 julii cory be a good substitute for the pygmies? I heard from someone that pygmies aren't necessarily bottom feeders/cleaners.
I have a GH about 10, and KH about 5.... will they be able to survive without being constantly stressed? buying locally, if that matters....
Locally with help because they will be used to those water parameters. Drip acclimate them so they can slowly adapt to your tank water!
I just got 15 chili's yesterday and they are unhappy, they keep swimming up and down one corner of my tank. I have a heavily planted with lots of floating plants. Any ideas what I can do to make them feel more comfortable? Thanks
Hi, I think they might need some more oxygen, try adding an air stone powered by an air pump.
@@KrishsAquariums Ill turn off my co2 and see if they do any better. I put some tannins in the water and that seemed to make them a bit happier.

About 2-3 months if they are fed well!
Nice video mate , You say 3 pounds is the high end price for chilli rasbora where you at. You also said you have 30 of them in your tank. If i do the maths.. 3 pounds each × 30 chilli= 90 quid. Well tben you're lucky you don't live in Australia like me. The chill rasbora is rare over here. If you do find them in store, they are $30 Aud each. So if i bought 30chilli × $30Aud = $900 Aud. Cpd are even more expensive at $35 Aud each.

@@KrishsAquariums Hi, Even cpds cost for $25-35 Aud. Australia is a beautiful place, but most of the things in the hobby are rare an expensive for us.

Nope only certain aquasoils will. Read the description on the packaging!
Apparently they’re okay Betta tank mates due to them being no threat and they don’t go for the betta’s fins.

oooh, the lower tolerance of hard water, and the relatively lower ideal pH range doesn't allow a lot of overlap with the conditions you would want for neocardina shrimp. too bad.
Yep, you are right, but I am keeping these with Cherry Shrimp, in harder waters and they are both doing great!

I bought some today and I acclimatised them for about 50 mins and when I added to water they went into shock and died... :-( the shop has them at pH 7.8 and my water is 8.00 but I guess that did it!!!
Most likely, they are very small fish that prefer acidic conditions so a pH 8 might have been abit too much for them!

I think you might need a some a bit bigger 5.5 is a a little bit too small for a group of them.

I think the honey gourami might eat them, they get a little bit too big for chili rasboras in my opinion. A pH of 8 would be too high for these delicate fish :(

Loved you video. Just starting up 5 gal Fluval horizontal tank. Don’t plan on adding fish for 3-4 weeks so am researching what to put in. I think I’ll add more surface plants. I mixed a bags of natural color & black gravel. Should I go darker for these CR fish? Would a Pygmy cat and maybe ONE snail be ok to put in with how many chili’s?? Or would a shrimp or two be better choice ?

If they aren’t wild caught, chances are they have been raised in hard, alkaline water anyway.

Can be challenging acclimating them but not the hardest freshwater fish to keep!
