Good job,50 years at the plumbing and still have some problems with removing connection from top of cyclinders occasionally when they are just rusted and corroded as you said can be a pain!👍🤗
Great video Mark and I loved the chuckle when it worked loose. I had one once where I had to use heat to get it to shift, they can be an absolute pig at times. Looked a lot neater when it was all completed. Petition all signed and shared 😃👍
Hi mark great video. Well done for perseverance on removing cylinder fitting. In the end in the loft, did you tee off from the hot shower pump outlet directly onto the hot pipe feeding the taps? Ive not seen a shower pump used to also boost the gravity hot water. Im impressed. Presumably doing it this way doesn't void pump warrenty. Keep up the great content 👍👍
Was once doing an upgrade to a heating system for a friend who was a detective constable. On the Monday morning as we started he told me he and his wife had been to a Sunday market where he’d seen one stall holder with around 20 lawnmowers for sale. With a knowing look between him and me we both new they weren’t honestly acquired.
Thanks for the video Mark, I've got one of them to do next month and I'm already having sleepless nights.... Petition signed, let's hope this has the desired effect and helps prevent tool theft..........
Great job, petiton signed,my van got stolen from outside my house they dumped it 2 miles away, but I'd raised my van floor 8" and cut out and opening in floor to hide power tools, covered compartment with dust sheet, they got my work bags and old drill i left out.
Great job as always Mr Tiff. Personally I prefer Stuart Turner pumps, they're quieter and I've far less issues with ST. Probably would've mounted the pump on a piece of 18mm ply to improve stability. Interestingly most pump manufacturers will not honour their unless fitted correctly, which includes an S Flange. So you did the right thing there, mate. Loving your work 👏🏻. Thanks for the video 👍🏻 🌟
Petition is signed and I have shared it on my socials. Had to install a power shower this week. Was shitting myself that I didn't twist the cylinder but it all worked out well in the end. Great vid as always 👍👍
Hi Mark, a great looking job there, I am a big fan of the Salamander pumps, a massive increase in the water pressure for the customer. I’m sure they will be made up now that pump is installed, well done. I sighed up too, have a great week and take care, regards Chris. 👍👍👍
I split a tank once wile changing the immersion heater, had to do a temp fix until I could get round to replace it! Quick question, why use the grips all the time, especially on flange nuts and compression fittings? The reason I ask is as your gripping and especially on tight ones like that, you squash the nut wall against the thread and make it harder to undo, but if you was to use a spanner or adjustable it pushes against the tips of the flats and creates more of a turning motion.
Nice job, as a chippie working for Warwick district council years ago my old plumber mate Nigel Barnett told me to keep the cylinder full when cracking an immersion heater, Nigel lived in Southam do you ever see him at plumbers merchants around Warwick or Leamington?
Thanks mate…… If it don’t come out then yep, that would be the advised route…. Most pump manufactures insist in the fitting instructions to have a S Flange or alike…..
Hi Mark, thanks for the video. As a keen DIYer I have struggled removing immersers from hot water tanks and I was looking forward to the "little trick " you mentioned at 5:27 in your video - did I miss something? Petition signed BTW
Neat job Mark those modern taps are no good for gravity fed systems. That hot outlet fitting looked really tight i always heat them with a blowlamp first usually come loose with less effort and less strain on the cylinder
Great video Mark. Am I right in saying the cylinder still had its own cold feed still in place and the pipe you videoed with the elbow was the original separate cold supply to the old pump. Keep up the great work excellent learnt a lot Thankyou. Soak
The only problem with using Loctite 55 is it has a resin in it that hardens and can make it difficult to remove in the future. Personally I would use the paste, gasket ptfe and a ptfe grommet against the shoulder so it compresses between the two faces.
Had similar issue with hot water pressure, plumber fitted a single pump on hot water system, fixed pressure issue but was so noisy had to have it removed after six weeks. Resigned to low hot water flow can you recommend a quiet pump. Petition signed
A few comments from me 1) if you gently sand the top of the cylinder to make it smooth and flat where the s flange goes in, then the fibre washer is generally sufficient to seal, just a little bit of PTFE around the threads to reduce friction (not to make the seal) and it works absolutely great with a gentle snug down. My understanding is the threads are parallel so they aren’t designed to make the seal. 2) Salamander universal pumps are terrible, they eventually become very slow to switch on after a year or so and this gets progressively worse. I appreciate the customers are to a budget but at the very least they should have gone for a Stuart Turner. Wouldn’t touch a salamander pump with a barge pole anymore.
Thanks for your comment buddy… We all do things differently but get the same results….. that’s how I fit that fitting into the cylinder. As for Salalmander, I have never had an issue with them…. I know some have but I havent
Great job. Although it really should have an anti gravity loop piped in after the s flange with the pump sitting above the cylinder. Either way looks like the customer will be made up. Ps, that loft looked crazy tight 😳
Hmm. Salamander hot water entry comes from the top of the cylinder and is linked to the vent (don't remember now, but there is a substantial air gap to the water storage tank). I'm interested in another aspect: is there a risk that the HW pump intake will start drawing air from the vent (which is T'd: cylinder+vent+salamander)? Only just started level 2 CH systems and it is a bit mind boggling sometimes.
Ive never seen the hot water plumbed in like that on the original 3 sinks.. It looks like it goes up the air vent in to the loft and tyen must go back down again because there was only one draw off from the top of that tank that went in the original positive pressure pump but you reckon only the shower was pumped
