Such an important topic to discuss! Very proud and thankful to have Carlie and Jackie as a spokesman for educators We don't just babysit children, there's so much more important things that we do. Yes, we care for them and that's a huge part of it but as a whole we are over looked and undervalued. There is less support from community centres and things, especially since covid. We are a valued part of the community and commonly parents first (and only) option for support and advice. Really insightful podcast, thank you!
I agree one hundred percent that the language we use to describe ourselves as professionals is key. We have the most important job in society. Valuing ourselves starts with recognising what we actual do, rather than perpetuating the historical perspective of just " caring." We co -construct the architecture of the brain. We introduce and scaffold concepts. We engineer and influence attitudes and beliefs. I believe our profession should be referred to as " Conceptual Engineers" This would reflect the undisputable evidence from neuroscience that the first 5 years are the most pivotal in child development. Most future learning and success is dependant on this pivotal period. The nurturing of interactions, confidence, self efficacy and self discovery is an art. We hone our complex skills over many years of training and experience. #conceptualengineers #catalystforchange #play.imagine.learn
