    A beautiful and rare car, thanks for reviewing this one! The 406 was a worthy successor to the excellent 405, I don't know why it went so horribly wrong with the 407. The V6 was superb but very expensive, and I think most buyers preferred a German badge at that point even though they got a lot less for their money. The big issue was depreciation, definitely a car to buy used, not new

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ah yes, sir! This is what I talked about the other day. Peugeots after about 2000 went a bit wrong, culminating in the terrible 207 I reviewed early on in the lift of the channel. The 407 was not great either. Similar issues to my 45 V6 with this one, much more expensive than a standard one when new, heavy depreciation and lack of badge recognition.

    What a glorious vehicle! I did watch a TH-cam video on this particular model, to which looks like the Peugeot 405, the last Peugeot imported to the US before Peugeot left the market. Driver's seat could use a detailing, otherwise a spectacular specimen!
    Before I go, I noticed the rear window sunblind, and no sunroof, to which I like!

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it definitely an evolution of the 405 styling, and I think that was also made in France and Coventry too. Peugeot pulled out of America in 1991, I believe. I do like a nice sunblind...

    Such a great video J. I love the 406, especially the V6. If I buy an e34 M5 you can chase me through the streets (up to the speed limit) of Brighton. Lol

    I had two facelift 406 company cars with mid range specs. The second one, a well appointed run-out model, was still low mileage when the company restructured and I was offered redundancy. After I left, the car was involved in a very bad accident on the M6 one morning. ( The accident was mentioned on the traffic reports that morning as the M6 was closed.) The 406 was a write-off but my old colleague got out without a scratch.
    The first 406 waa a 1.8 petrol model, but the second was the 2.0 ( or 1.9?) diesel which was quite lively and smooth. I believe that the diesels were a joint project with Ford and were used in the Jaguar X Type too.
    P.S.
    When I had my first 406 one of my customers was Motor Sport Developments in Milton Keynes who prepared the 406 for the British Touring Cars Competition. One of their drivers was Tim Harvey who commentates on the races today.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I am afraid that we don't talk about diesels on this channel, but we can certainly talk about the 1.8 petrol model. That sounds like a very strong car to have protected your former colleague in that way. I drove a facelifted one earlier this year with much higher mileage, and it was still really good. Thank you for watching and commenting!

    I had a couple of friends whose parents had these in the 90s and I remember them being super smooth riding. This was an era when Peugeot seemed to be churning out some very well received cars with the 106, 206, 306 and 406 all scoring rave reviews. The ones with the engines of which we do not speak seemed to go on forever too. Diablo red is still a smart colour too

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes sir, a bit of self-censorship goes a long way on this channel.... The ride and handling were very good. The 106 is a bit of a basic, cramped and noisy car these days, but they were well regarded at the time. Even Mr Coleman likes the 306 and 406!

    Nice review. Brings back some great memories. I owned a Diablo Red Peugeot 406 2.0 Executive Turbo with black leather interior. The Exec Turbo and V6 were pretty much identical other than the engine. Both had uprated slightly lower suspension, rear window sun shade, leather seats, CD Auto Changer in the boot, headlight washers, front fogs etc. One difference was most V6s has a Bose sound system with a sub in the boot. The later facelift models also had an early satnav built in.
    My 2.0 Exec Turbo had some modifications. Stright through stainless exhaust creating a nice rumble. Sports air filter to aid the turbo and exhaust. Turbo dump valve. And a performance ecu remap. This increased the output of the car in a rolling road from 150bhp to 197bhp, and took the 0-60 time down from 8.2 seconds to 7.6 seconds. Basically making the 2.0 Turbo perform at the same level as the V6. You could of course also modify the V6. A remap of those could produce 240bhp. I read someone even fitting twin turbos to one.

    • @lloydvehicleconsulting
      @lloydvehicleconsulting  ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry not to have replied to you beforehand! The TH-cam algorithm buried your comment for almost two years.... I actually drove another one of these a couple of months ago, but a post-facelift example, same colour, however. Still as good as ever, really enjoyed both of them! Certainly worthy of classic status now.

    Those biscuit beige leather seats look lovely. They also remind me of the seats you get in a pre project drive Rover 45 V6. And the door cards sagging. And the rarity. There are a few simalarites to the Rover 45 V6

      Yes, good old sagging door cards! Not just an MG Rover speciality. Yes, there are some similarities between this and a 45 V6, they both sat at the top of their line ups, and the V6s were much more powerful and much rarer than anything else.

    I’ve driven a few of these. They were our company cars in the late 90s. Company policy was diesel. And your rank chose the trim level. My manager got a lowly 1.9L 90hp. No Rev counter, no alloys. Can’t remember about air con. Front electric windows were standard. It was comfortable, not very quick and the first diesel I ever drove.
    They could be quite tail happy, I think they were a bit front heavy.
    A higher manager, got an Executive. 2.1 110hp diesel. Full leather interior in black. Which looked now where near as good as the tan in your example.
    That V6 had an extra gauge in the dash, I could not see what it was.

      I did like this very much! I am sure that lots of these were diesel, but we can't really talk about them here, can we? I do like the Executive trim, but it still remains very understated. It's very kind of you to say so Sean but truth be told much of the credit for keeping this car in decent condition goes to the older gentleman who had her for many years before I bought her just over a year ago. He got her from the main Peugeot dealer in Derby (where she was their demonstrator) and kept her for over twenty years until he decided to stop driving at the grand old age of 90.
      The plan for this car over the next 12 months is to resurrect the climate control system again - there is a very small annoying leak somewhere - and to have the front alloy wheels powder coated. The driver"s seat could also also do with a bit of attention at some point. She is obviously not my daily work car - see Joseph"s recent review of my Kia Pro_Cee'd - but neither is she a 'garage queen' that never gets driven either. I'd like to keep the milage down but at the end of the day what's the point of having such a car and not enjoying it?

      @@lloydvehicleconsulting 😂 I remember. Several years back I was worried about my mum getting a Peugeot 207 (she liked the colour, and it was a newer plate than her previous car so that’s all that mattered to her 😂), but it was a really good car it turned out - a 56 plate 3 door sport 1.6 110 petrol (most 1.6’s had a different engine) she had it 3 years, and she’s now on her second 207 (a 5 door 1.4 sport) - which she’s had nearly 5 years. The starter motor did fail on the first one along with a brake pedal switch, this one though nothing has gone wrong. That’s nearly 8 years of 207 ownership with just a cheap £70 starter motor and a £5 switch. I think they drive well too. Would I own one?
