This was the first time I loaded a canoe to camp 3 hours down the river in the middle of the wilderness and it was AMAZING!! Here are some tips to help you prepare for a trip like this:
- pack as light as possible, share a camp list so you and your group do not take unnecessary duplicate items for all to use.
- Secure all items in waterproof bags, containers or put them in large contractor bags.
- Bug lamp
- Shovel - Your porcelain god will not be anywhere near you, be one with nature, dig a hole and squat ;)
- easy set up hammock to nap and chill, you will thank me
- 2 gallon waters with spout
- paint buckets to secure sleeping bags then reuse as seats and/or dish washing tubs
- Canoe seats will save your back, Kings Landing does not provide or rent these
- Freeze all items - meats, water etc with large bag of ice in a high performance cooler
- Rope & clothes pins to dry clothing
I think the rest you know since many reading this are already campers ;) Enjoy the peace, serenity & nature while getting off the grid!
