Please note: The TLOD value is lower because I am flying low to the ground. I did not notice the decrease in visual fidelity because I cannot see so far out. This means I get a boost in FPS right where I need it. This would obviously change dynamically if I flew higher.
I just tried this software yesterday after watching the other video you mentioned, and was thrilled with the results on my OG Crystal. I was going to mention that you should cover this too, but you beat me to it. This software does exactly what I had repeatedly asked myself why something like this didn't exist, and why Asobo/MS couldn't have made dynamic performance adjustments work more like this. I still have a lot of further experimentation to do with this, but very cool software that deserves more attention paid to it.

For me personally I have set DLSS to preset F (game changer) and increased the resolution in Open XR. Usual settings in VD aswell. I did try Auto FPS but found the changing LOD annoying. In the end I returned to Riva Tuner and all is well again. These tweaks have given me the best performance and visuals so far. I have a Q3, 7800x3d and a 4800 Super. Keep up the good work.
@@JTCulverhouse I don't want to post links on Steves channel but if you search the MSFS VR forum for 'DLSS tweaks, openXR toolkit and performance in VR' there's a decent guide. I think it's great that people like Steve and Diego (the guy who posted on the forums) take the time to spend hours tweaking VR and pass on their knowledge and experiences to us. Thanks guys.
Set all DLSS presets to F using DLSS tweaker. Use Open XR to override the resolution to around 3800 or more. Turn turbo mode off and frame rate throttling. Set MSFS VR settings to DLSS performance. Don't bump up the rest of the settings keep them low or medium. Set the fps on auto fps or RTSS to half of what you have VD set to. Make sure SSW is on in VD. With a RTX4080, a 14900K with 64 GB Ram and PCL headset, I've switched the PCL to 120Hz refresh and locked the Framerate to 40 (1/3 the refresh instead of 1/2 with 90Hz/ 45 FPS). This actually gives me a very stable, stutterless experience and allows AutoFPS to dial-in higher TLOD and OLOD. I agree that in MSFS 2024 lower framerates provide better experience than they did in MSFS 2020. So I can comfortably live with 40 FPS over 45 and get improved visual fidelity as well.

Great video Steve !! What's strange is on my setup, I have noticed that on not very far distance mountains, their is no details at all. On your video, mountain that are far (not at max distance) already got details, real shape, not a blurry melted aspect. Any ideas ?
It would adjust TLOD to maintain your desired fps. It does work but through the expense of lowering your TLOD..by a lot. Is no free lunch. Is either reducing the TLOD yourself to get the fps you want or increasing the TLOD to get the graphic details but with the game stuttering. I like TLOD 200 fyi.
My experience today was really negative. With my own setting, I can get 40+fps, but with this auto fps set to auto it aimed for a target of 21fps and the clouds looked like they were out of minecraft 😅 it was a new area I'd never flown in before so unsure if it was just the stream. I kept it on auto maybe I was doing something wrong
Are you using the latest version of DLSS? About a month ago MSFS2024 defaulted to v2 with the current version being 3.0+. Makes quite a difference apparently.
i have it downloaded BUT! vr optimized is not an option on the drop down menu under the expert options? DO I need my headset turned on before loading the program? Everything else seems the same ..It says I have the updated version 0.4.4.0
Given that the program dynamically adjusts the settings, it's best to leave everything on ultra so that whenever there’s enough leeway, it looks as good as possible-for example, the clouds?
It only really changes three parameters, Terrain Level of Detail (TLOD), Object Level of Detail (OLOD) and cloud quality and you can tick a box if you want it not to touch cloud quality. So in my view you should be aiming for an FPS that is reasonable and achievable for your system, letting AutoFPS deal with the TLOD and OLOD values, as for all your other graphics settings (most of which won't have a great impact on framerate individually) see what you can get away with.
Surly FS should send this guy a nice thank you and put it in the actual game, well his version that works. Bit embarrassing if the in-house version doesn’t work.
I'm confsued, doesnt MSFS already have a target FPS and dynamic settings? Also, isn't 45 fps half the recommended FPS for VR? (asking cause I don't know any better)
Hello sorry to bother you, I'm new to flight Sims and vr, I downloaded the auto fps do I run the msfs first and automatically detects auto fps or do I run auto fps first, sorry
Do you mean in the sim settings? AutoFPS will override any TLOD and OLOD values you put in the in the sim graphics settings and aim for whatever values you put in the app. Added bonus for TLOD you can select values that are in excess of the maximum value the slider will go to in the sim.
No because where possible this utility increases TLOD & OLOD to as much as possible whilst maintaining your FPS target. So you hit your target and get the best possible visuals whilst doing so.
Thanks for the info. I have a question. When I switch to VR mode I no longer see the menu for AUTOfps. I only see the menu when in 2D. Is there a setting or am I doing something wrong?
Hey Steve, this looks promising, but I need some help... I downloaded it and can't open it... does it run via the community folder in MSFS 24? Can't seem to figure out how to open the Auto FPS screen like you had it on yours. So, i'm not even sure it's running or working.
After seeying your video I realized I was running the wrong version. Now I have the one that has the "VR Optimezed" option. However, as with the other versions, the TLOD and OLOD in the Sim Values section always remain 0 (zero) and don't change. Also not after 5 minutes like someone suggested. Wish I could get that fixed...
I like the way you do your posts. Informative and short :) Just two remarks. FPS often did not reach target 40 fps, often being around 35, why? Did you set low limit too high or was it because of recording? Also, why 40 fps limit on Pimax? Did you use 120Hz VR mode? Cheers.
So, I have an i9 with 4070ti. I am looking at getting a quest3 for other VR uses outside of my PC. Does this Auto FPS app work to improve VR there as well?
Thank you for this very interesting video. However, the images you show are those visible on your screen and not those visible in the helmet (in the helmet, the Auto FPS window doesn't appear) and that makes all the difference since the image on the screen is always of better quality than the one in the helmet. Am I mistaken?
I've done this for the purpose of the video. Call it, clever editing. As for you, set and forget. Don't worry about staring at the auto fps screen. Just enjoy the better smoothness.
@@VRFlightSimGuy Thanks for your reply. In fact, all the VR videos of the FS2024 that you see on TH-cam are a bit dreamy because they don't show what you can actually see in the headset. That said, it would be great if you could also try it out with the Quest 3. For example, should you keep the ‘Dynamic Settings’ given that it's actually replaced by Auto FPS and what about the Virtual Desktop configuration?
@@arnaudjulien24 I can’t speak for the crystal light that VRguy has but the image you’re seeing on screen is not the one you see in VR. But it’s subjective because of how VR works and what you have for a headset. But VR in general is superior to flat screen, because it looks almost…. Almost real.
Thanks, very interesting. I just tried but there is no "VR Optimized' settings next to teh Auto Method under Expert Options and I do not see any changes though vr flight. Do you have any idea why that option is missing?
24 still isn't VR ready. Too many bugs still. No Toolbar, black box after switching into VR, randomly doesn't let me click anything on the plane. Sticking with 2020 for now
My issue isn't my new Pimax or stutters or my performance, but MSFS. I guess the main issue is the control mouse surfaces in VR are horrible in most of the aircraft compared to 2020. I guess I am just disappointed because I thought they were going to put a emphasis on VR with 2024 and it looks like they have not done that.
Nice, Steve. I did watch IslandSimPilot's video yesterday, and this looks really promising. I have exclusively been using DLSS with the 1.500000 secondary scaling in the cfg file, so if I want to use TAA mode again, I guess I'll have to go back to the default in the cfg file as well? This may VERY well be a stupid question, but I'm a bit lost regarding that 1.5X thingy...LOL I believe the default was 1.00000 ? Or is the 1.500000 only a problem when going quality in DLSS ? 😁😁 Love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥
@@VRFlightSimGuy Hmm.. So 1.5 is the default value, as you said change it BACK to 1.5 ? Or did you mean change it back to 1.0 ? Sorry for bugging you 🙂
What is important for pilots that is not under their control? ATC. What is important for Sim Pilots. ATC. Realistic Flight physics. Realistic weather / wind generation. Correct runway lighting. Correct airport signage. Clear and visible runway. The first item on my list is NOT a priority for ASOBO. The final item on my list relies on your computer system. The others are mostly taken care of. With AutoFPS, that final item is improved automatically without spending hours adjusting TLOD. Coming back to ATC, VFR doesn't seem to be a priority for all the 3rd Party suppliers. Being a GAME, I use my imagination. Steve. Why didn't you tell me East Midlands has a D Class zone that is quite large, GND to FL105 ? East Midlands however, it one of the very few Airport Towers to have 'Request D Airspace Transit'. Cosford to Cranwell goes through East Mids D zone. Was truely great.
Hi Steve Thanks for Highlighting this and will give it a go But ...to be honest at the moment im getting really cheesed off with msfs2024 what with all its bugs, and like yourself i get really peeved with terrain not loading in ,always seem to get the "low bandwidth" message (dev mode says im downloading at 2 to maybe 6mb even though my bandwidth is the "recommended" speed of 100, speed test done before and after loading the sim). in pancake mode. The sim has great potential i must admit but god is it frustrating 😢 , ive a high spec pc including msi 4090 card and pimax crystal. Sorry to moan lol ...and look forward to you posting vids so dont worry about too many of them 😅. Cheers
This is really cool, I'll defiantly try this out! While I'm here, I wanted to also ask you guys if you all know how to fix a certain weird glitch I am having with link cable msfs 2024 VR. When using the link cable in vr, when I look up at a clear blue sky, it starts to do weird shimmering and glitching. It doesn't effect my fps, but it hurts my eyes and it does effect my overall experience. It doesn't happen when there are clouds either which is weird. Does anyone know how to fox this?
@@VRFlightSimGuyHi, not getting that information there but it doesn't matter. Great tool, I use it for days now, unfortunately does not cure the FPS suffering when looking down in the cockpit at high altitudes.
Does this also working in VR with myt meta quest 3? I ahe the problem with Virtual Desktop and performance. I have all the time latences only on the game not on networt or sonething else.
Yes. AutoFPS is a 'Godsend'. BUT, DO NOT MENTION IT ON MSFS FORUM. THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT TREADS ON ASOBO'S TOES. AutoFPS is a piece of coding that adjusted TLOD to acheive best fps. They interogate your components and decide a resonable fps to aim for. Then change the TLOD levels. Note. If you set TLOD values in Options at LOW, the grass will have been mowed when you fire up and get going. When you return after a couple of circuits, the grass has grown quickly. At your next session, the lawnmower man has been. Also, the Airport painters have scrubbed away the messy white centre dashes and painted new bold dashes. NO! That is not dashes from Newbold on Stour. :-)
Great videos, but I think pimax crystal light is soooo overrated. I had a quest 3. I have a rtx4090 i14900kf and 32gb ram. I “upgraded” to a pimax after all the reviews I watched. Anyone who uses a quest 3 for MSFS20/24 there is absolutely no need WHATSOEVER to “upgrade”. The experience with the Q3 was fantastic. The experience with the pimax crystal light is poor to say the least. I’m think it’s just a waste of money. The in cockpit visuals and clarity is better. However outside is another story. I found it blurry no matter settings I used. I found the image was so distorted and wobbly I couldn’t use it. Stay with a Q3.
i have it downloaded BUT! vr optimized is not an option on the drop down menu under the expert options? DO I need my headset turned on before loading the program? Everything else seems the same ..It says I have the updated version 0.4.4.0

I have exactly the same problem .. no menu and no means to monitor performance when in VR, so I also urgently need an answer to this.
Hey Steve, this looks promising, but I need some help... I downloaded it and can't open it... does it run via the community folder in MSFS 24? Can't seem to figure out how to open the Auto FPS screen like you had it on yours. So, i'm not even sure it's running or working.
I'm having the same problem
After seeying your video I realized I was running the wrong version. Now I have the one that has the "VR Optimezed" option. However, as with the other versions, the TLOD and OLOD in the Sim Values section always remain 0 (zero) and don't change. Also not after 5 minutes like someone suggested. Wish I could get that fixed...
The readme for any of these app versions tells you how to resolve that.
I like the way you do your posts. Informative and short :) Just two remarks. FPS often did not reach target 40 fps, often being around 35, why? Did you set low limit too high or was it because of recording? Also, why 40 fps limit on Pimax? Did you use 120Hz VR mode? Cheers.
Thx I appreciate that. In the video I explain I can reach 45fps when not recording.
So, I have an i9 with 4070ti. I am looking at getting a quest3 for other VR uses outside of my PC. Does this Auto FPS app work to improve VR there as well?
You can download the quest optimizer for standalone games, makes a huge difference
Is openxr in the pimax crystal light software included? If not should I download it? Thanks
Yes.
Thanks, very interesting. I just tried but there is no "VR Optimized' settings next to teh Auto Method under Expert Options and I do not see any changes though vr flight. Do you have any idea why that option is missing?
this is KayJay´s version in video. But wrong link in description.

Does it work for FS2020?
Ist the Mod only good for VR User?
i have instaled this program... but in auto method i have no vr optimized mode.... PROBLEM SOLVED... I had another version istalled... THX:)
I have this problem, so which version solves it?
@ yes
the general setting disappeared and it seems to be doing nothing
24 still isn't VR ready. Too many bugs still. No Toolbar, black box after switching into VR, randomly doesn't let me click anything on the plane. Sticking with 2020 for now
i see youre version has vr auto settings ? how, also how do i send coffee money to him

Hello can you help me or someone else, I'm new to pc vr gaming, I downloaded auto fps how do I use it with msfs 20 or 24, best regards
Great FPS but what about stutters?
No surprise you are getting a nice FPS with TLOD 52. You can also set it directly in the sim, but the terrain quality will suffer.
You've missed the point. It's dynamic. So it changes depending on your flying.
Is this with OpenXR?
Affirm.
Why not record with a separate laptop?
Thx for this Video.. But you Discord server link doesnt work anymore.

@@VRFlightSimGuy same problem
My issue isn't my new Pimax or stutters or my performance, but MSFS. I guess the main issue is the control mouse surfaces in VR are horrible in most of the aircraft compared to 2020. I guess I am just disappointed because I thought they were going to put a emphasis on VR with 2024 and it looks like they have not done that.
Does it work for FS2020?
Yes. I said this in the video
why did you choose 40fps for the target fps when your fps of your crystal is running at 45fps?
Due to recording 👍
@@VRFlightSimGuy so if you were'nt recording you would set it to 45fps?
@@vracanYes. Although feel free to even try something lower. Due to DX12
@@VRFlightSimGuy thanks!
Hey mate. Yes make sure to change it back if you want to use TAA. Just change it back to 1.5 and it will add in the correct zeros when saved 😊
@@VRFlightSimGuy Hmm.. So 1.5 is the default value, as you said change it BACK to 1.5 ? Or did you mean change it back to 1.0 ? Sorry for bugging you 🙂
@@poolhallshark The original value is 1 not 1.5
@@Albert_the_Albatross Thanks a lot👍 I appreciate it. Have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year! With a lot of great sim experiences 😉😊
Hi Steve
Thanks for Highlighting this and will give it a go
But ...to be honest at the moment im getting really cheesed off with msfs2024 what with all its bugs, and like yourself i get really peeved with terrain not loading in ,always seem to get the "low bandwidth" message (dev mode says im downloading at 2 to maybe 6mb even though my bandwidth is the "recommended" speed of 100, speed test done before and after loading the sim). in pancake mode.
The sim has great potential i must admit but god is it frustrating 😢 , ive a high spec pc including msi 4090 card and pimax crystal.
Sorry to moan lol ...and look forward to you posting vids so dont worry about too many of them 😅.
Cheers
I haven´t had any bandwidth issues, but UK internet is quite famous to suck if you live there?

This is really cool, I'll defiantly try this out! While I'm here, I wanted to also ask you guys if you all know how to fix a certain weird glitch I am having with link cable msfs 2024 VR. When using the link cable in vr, when I look up at a clear blue sky, it starts to do weird shimmering and glitching. It doesn't effect my fps, but it hurts my eyes and it does effect my overall experience. It doesn't happen when there are clouds either which is weird. Does anyone know how to fox this?
I've seen this too. I fixed this by using Virtual Desktop 😅
But the FPS counter shows 36-38 a lot of the time? That would not be smooth at 80hz
Recording as explained in the video
Seems like there are 2 versions of this app now . Very confusing.
I think I need this in my life. Asobo's version su-didly-ucks!!
Why not KayJay’s version??
this is KayJay´s version in video. But wrong link in description.

Glad you noticed 😅
Don't wanna be nitpicking but the tool never showed you have 45FPS but most of the time rather mid 30s...😉
I literally explain this in the video 👆
@@VRFlightSimGuyHi, not getting that information there but it doesn't matter. Great tool, I use it for days now, unfortunately does not cure the FPS suffering when looking down in the cockpit at high altitudes.
@@SK-wv8gb That sounds like a different issue.
@ yeah, VFR flyers will never come across this issue.
@@SK-wv8gbThe higher you are, the better fps you will achieve. So it might be something else that's causing the issue
Only answer questions from subscribers??? Cant you set comments to subscribers only if thats the case?
AutoFPS for the win, has helped me significantly on my triple screen setup.
4070 super and i5 13600k vr is unplayable in airliners for some reason terrible launch
U want to improve ur fps people . Delete all the third party’s airport keep it default and ur fps will improve . Problem solved
And I think there’s no SSW equivalent from Pimax that works is that correct ?
@ SSW?
It's a lot cheaper to build your own PC.
Not everyone is confident to do that, or wants to, or, would prefer a 3 year warranty
Why are you tearing ur hair out. Use a quest 3 with Virtual desktop. U would have what u want. Its that POS pimax u all hyped up
I do use the Quest 3. Lots of vids on the channel.
@resetXPDR Thanks Reset!
You are not welcome 🤣
i have it downloaded BUT! vr optimized is not an option on the drop down menu under the expert options? DO I need my headset turned on before loading the program? Everything else seems the same ..It says I have the updated version 0.4.4.0
Install the app version linked at the top of this video, not mine as you currently have installed, and you will see what you are looking for.
