Brilliant! Combining black and white photos of ancient medieval architecture, with medieval music…wonderfully brilliant work! Love the selection of music...very well done video!
Luckily we are able to hear beautiful music and view medieval structures without exposure to all that one might want to miss of this period. Thanks for posting this!
I've always been fascinated by this music. It's wonderful, haunting melodies with simple instruments. That touches your soul and makes you want to join in the danse with some gallant swaine. Sigh
I've always loved to listen to music from the middle age. Most of my friends just twirl their head and look at me as if I deserve to be locked up. This is ten times better than that awful music I have the misfortune hearing where I live. This goes straight to my favorites. Wonderful pictures of castles as well. Splendid.
God if I was offered to spend even a day in the middle ages I would go absolutely flippin freaking insane like literally just go back in time that would be the most coolest shit ever!
Je repasse en boucle ces jolies images. En ce temps de mondialisation, les racines essentielles de terre et de chair sont étroitement liées. Encore merci.
thankfully, this music has been preserved for us to enjoy. yes, it would have been thrilling to live back in those time; however, the downside is, the majority didn't live that long!
Beautiful video with impressive castles and music !! we particularly love the song starting at 2'54 : "Tant Que Vivray" by Claudin de Sermisy (c. 1490 - October 13, 1562), French composer of the Renaissance. Along with Clément Janequin he was one of the most renowned composers of French chansons in the early 16th century; in addition he was a significant composer of sacred music. His music was both influential on, and influenced by, contemporary Italian styles.
Thank you for images of Somoska, Filakovo, Spis, Cachtice and Beckov. These are ruins however amazing castles. If I might I would also add masterpieces like Orava, Slovenska Lupca, Zvolen, Trencin, Krasna Horka etc. Naturally the highest number of castles from Hungary appears here, at least I recognize Gyula, Nagyvazszony, Boldogko, Fuzer, Diosgyor :) We have in common admiration to Middle Ages and castles. Szep napo kivanok ;)
Zamykam oczy i widzę - te łaki zielone, lasy, zagrody i zamki. I spokój - mimo wojen, wlki o władzę, zabójstwa itp. I coś we mnie woła - dlaczego żyję w tak szybkich czasach - gdzie nawet zastanowić się nie można nad swoim krokiem. I muzyka KRZYCZY - nawet o miłości.
@bagshitass most instruments used in european medieval music came from the near east, the shawm came from the zurna, the lute came from the ud, and the rebec came from the rebab.
Originally Medieval music was monophonic but it did evolve. Harmony didn't just spring into existence at the onset of the Renaissance; such changes occur gradually. Presumably these pieces date from the late middle ages.
I decided that this year i will go to medieval castles around my country with my family! Oh i love the medieval times, but to be true i wouldn't wanna live at that time.
End of middle age is around 1500, after this period we call it renaissance :) if u like that and are not far from France, i suggest you to visit a city( castle ) called Carcassone. It s a huuuggee castle in the south unchanged from middel age and all the city is still there, people living there =)
@gajda1984 LOL; true, but when we think of the past, we always tend to romanticize it and focus on the aura, the emotions that get stirred inside, the mysteries of the unknown about that period, etc. Hasn't anyone ever asked you, "if you had a time machine, where would you go?" ^_^
Lots of these places are still very stable. The governments should restore even more of them! And this creates jobs in the villages! (Carpenters, wall painters, plasterers, stone masons, and gardeners, historical tour guides, etc.
I adore Shakespeare; as for which society is "best," I have created a book set in a realm where it has a reasonable mixture of both our time and that of medieval/renaissance age. In my world of Overon, the cities look much like an olde world village. Much like the images shown here. But they also have some 21st century principles. Women and commoners are treated equally, the land is rich and fertile, the people live clean lives. If only I could make it a reality
We are no less barbarous, and cruel than they were then. We still have plagues, famine, disease and wars. 500 years have seen no real progress. But their music was a bloody site better than the crap we are bombarded with today.
If you take out, the superstition and all the plagues, the middle ages weren't sucking so much! eitherway, the youth of this generation could use some info those great people left us. I for one , born in the 1990's , would just GO CRAZY if i was offered the chance to see the world back then !

Through all the fourteen years that this video has existed I still come back over and over for a listen.
the photos combined with this music give a good impression of the magic from that ages... i like it very much!
I really enjoyed listening to this medieval music! It sounds amazing and pretty authentic. :-)

Our modern times are more physically comfortable, but older ages were more spiritually rewarding

I would not have wanted to live in the Middle Ages whatsoever but this is some cool music!! :D
thankfully, this music has been preserved for us to enjoy. yes, it would have been thrilling to live back in those time; however, the downside is, the majority didn't live that long!

From 5:50 onwards is so epic! It's so ridiculously jolly and whatnot.
I feel like royalty too with this music :D
Magnífico !..

I was born 500 years too late. Sure the medieval ages were dark, but certainly everything that's beautiful has a dark side to it.
Orford castle is an interesting place to visit, with it's Byzantine architecture & Wild Man of Orford tale
there's a reason final fantasy games use this type of music, because it inspires the soul, takes you back... Allows you to feel at peace.
nice music :D
I'd love a list of all the castles used in the video, they're great!
Just imagine the history being all these castle
the first song was when I played princess or one woman in school play at prom and I was searching everywhere and I did't find it now yes!!!
@Hisuwashi This song title is "Tant que vivray en âge florissant" by the french Renaissance composer Claudin de Sermissy (1490-1562)
i wish we still lived in this age.....
nice music
Thanks :P
wow nice castle there: 6:39 Music is epic aswel
Hmm... now i shall Minecraft these beautiful castles!
how this beautiful music can have dislikes???
I have recognised two of them: Karlštejn in Czech republic, Beckov castle in Slovakia
Originally Medieval music was monophonic but it did evolve. Harmony didn't just spring into existence at the onset of the Renaissance; such changes occur gradually. Presumably these pieces date from the late middle ages.
Could you give a list of the music you used.
I love it! :D Thank you so much for sharing this music with the nice pictures.

All the music in this video is from an album called 'Music to Entertain the Kings of Hungary 1490-1526' if this helps.
thanks frenchiecocrico! =D
That is true the Middle Ages was hell for the average joe, but the music was great!
@startobe22 Transylvania exists today as a historical region of Romania. Wikipedia has a good article on Transylvania.
Lots of these places are still very stable. The governments should restore even more of them! And this creates jobs in the villages! (Carpenters, wall painters, plasterers, stone masons, and gardeners, historical tour guides, etc.
in the woods? hell, they'd dump it out of the windows in towns and tough luck if you happen to be walking underneath their window
ps: Chinon castle still has the very room where Joan of Arc met Charles. And Joan's birth house still stand's in Domremy! In good condition too.
@Vadraedan Very eruditely said. It's true too.
after playing assassins creed 2 i am firmly convinced i can climb any of these structures......
Linda!...Uma lástima que os castelos estejam em ruínas; mesmo assim dá um belo visual artístico!...
Muy bueno.
The castles in Languedoc took a bad hit in the 13th century. At least the Cathar's stuck with it to the end!

Nice vid ; )
Does any one know where i could get some medieval, baroque, or classic music with vocalits?

I don't live in Compton, my weekly police report consists of teens stealing candy. I haven't ever felt fear in my city. (Irvine)
This type of Music is SO much better than Justina Bieber..... Thank you.
every day when I sleep I wish to wake up in this age T.T
@E1025
It must be some weird slow thrusting then...
NIce, but I would really like to see graphics telling what/where these are.
I recommend a TH-cam channel called "Medieval Richard". He visits/films castles, plus more, and also works in a castle!
This is not medieval Music surely, it sounds much later, 17th Century maybe (1600 that is)
Check our medieval song with castles
all you have to see much more beautifull
Calm down people. We like the music, the dress, everything that doesn't have to do with death..
The music is from the game simcity4
i love this song what is it
Hello!
Is there any picture about hungarian castle among the pictures?

Famines, droughts, hateful rulers and plagues have vanished? What fairy tale book did you crawl out of again?
i went to a castle last week called wal-mart.
Nay? Tush!
Shall Death brag him wander'st in his shade.
reminds me of final fantasy 9
