Ludwig is easily one of my favorite movie composers, and i’m really happy for his second win! However, when he said “instead of video games”, it hit me a bit negatively. I’m not mad, I’m not the angry fat kid that most people see as the stereotypical gamer, and I don’t want this man crucified. I’m sure as hell he had no negative intentions when saying this. He was just giving his life story, and he just wanted to thank his parents for guiding him down such a successful career path. I’m simply here to say that video games can be art too. No shame against Ludwig, he's awesome, but as somebody who was given video games and music by my parents, I think that we should recognise video games for providing some of the best composed music in history. Hearing the compositions in the games I played allowed to learn how to play them, allowed me to learn more about music theory. Jon Batiste learned how to transcribe music after he played Final Fantasy 7 and Sonic the Hedgehog and listened to the scores and practised with those. Congrats on the award, Ludwig, but remember that Video games and music can coexist.
I think you guys who are up in arms about this are making something out of nothing. He's not making fun of video games or disregarding them or their OSTs.
