I will be starting nursing school in a couple weeks here. I am a visual learner and learn best through drawing, writing things out, playing with color to organize and watching video's. Picmonic is a perfect way to study for a visual learner. Love it, thank you so much! Your video's are so helpful! Thank you
I just wanted to post again and say that Picmonic is AWESOME! I used your link around May of 2020 and now I know almost all the medical terms; body positions; bones; and some muscles. I just started A&P 1 and it's going wonderfully. Picmonic is such a great resource in helping visual learners, such as myself, remember these strange names and their processes. After using Picmonic, I then turn to CrashCourse videos for supplemental learning. But without Picmonic, it would all seem like a foreign language. Thank you so much for the recommendation!
I am going to do CNA training soon. Starting from where I gotta start but you know what that makes me happy because I will never forget the things I had to do to get where I wanna be. However with that said I am actually very happy that I stumbled across this channel. Best videos I have ever seen thank you for telling us what to prepare for.
The more I watch your videos, the more I wish you were my preceptor. Your co-workers are lucky. You’re awesome for all the advice you’re giving! Thank you :)

I like the one about teaching information to someone to make it stick. i don't take notes very well, but I do read my textbooks and after I read, I talk to my husband about what I've been learning. It REALLY REALLY helps no joke. Sometimes he really hates it or doesn't want to hear it (especially if it's math stuff), but I'll talk to him even if he isn't listening. I just bought Picmonic and was connected to this video through their Facebook page, and my mind is absolutely blown that I can access exact chapters from my Med-Surg book that I'll be using until I (hopefully) graduate in May! really praying this and the other tips will finally get me out of riding the edge of failing (77 in my program). thank you so so much!
I like to study in my PJs while I am in bed. sometimes I sit up or something, but I'm always relaxed, and I believe that's how you have to be. so far I'm all A's. (keeping fingers crossed)
I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! I’m in FNP now (1 year from completing my degree). Every time I take an exam, I feel as though I don’t know how to study. I cram, I stress and I cram some more. I will buy all the material necessary, but I wouldn’t know where or when to start, or even how to weed out the unnecessary info. I take the exam, and then I settle for whatever grade I get because I don’t have a firm handle on the material. UGHHH!! I’m in peds clinical now. I will use your suggestions to ace this semester. Thanks again.
MsDivaOneLuv812 one year left! You got this! I hope some of the strategies work for you! It’s the worst going into exams feeling scattered. Let me know they work for ya!
I am excited for the talk it out method! Hubby is a paramedic who is going to do the transition once I get my RN, so it’ll give him extra early study time (and he hates studying) plus he’ll already know a lot and be able to correct me if I make a mistake!
You are so real ! Oh my goodness Picmonic is AMAZING! I’m started an accelerated BSN in the fall and have used it to study for the HESI and to get a start on A&P!! Bless you Nurse Liz!
I’ve been accepted in a readiness course to basically win a opportunity for my employer to put me through RN school. I plan on watching everything you have. Haha I like how you mentioned picmonic, I study by making pictures in my head for certain things. I think it’s called memory palace. So picmonic definitely falls into that an will help me a lot in the future! Thank you for your support in all us TO BE nurses
Nurse Liz the advice you provided concerning picmonics was a miracle. I am starting my endeavor in nursing in the as a second phase in my life and this app is a GOD send. You are officially my learning coach. Thank you
Hi Mrs. Liz, My name is Kelcia and I start my Online Nursing Program Class January 8, 2021. I came across your video and you have given me such relief. I too have heard that studying is very hard and I almost gave up pursuing it. I love that you're paying it forward to future nurses like me. What to expect and what should I know on the first day of class?
I'm so glad I found your channel! Love your nursing school videos. I just finished my first year, and I will definitely buy a boards review book to flip through this summer! :)
Hey there, question for you. Regarding Quizlet, did you happen to make your lessons open to the public? I recently decided to embark on the journey to become a nurse. Still in the beginning stages. However i am so happy that you decided to share your journey. I love the fact that your journey helps me map out key steps to be successful! Keep it up and thank you for sharing!
Hey! I didn't make them open to the public. I think it is super beneficial to go through and make your own because I definitely learned so much that way. Best of luck on your nursing journey!
I love your channel , and yess I usually can’t do the study buddy thing but we do reference things like you said and I will try the picmonic app , and yes I find it very helpful when I teach to others , I need to work on finding a more peaceful place for studying and would you be able to recommend any other nursing books with practice test questions ? I was thinking of Saunders NCLEX and fundamentals for nursing practice book too . I’m going to look at the one you referred to in the video .
Thank you so so much for this! I just bought the semester picnomic and so far I use that and simple nursing and it has been extremely helpful. Do you have a video for ATI's or dosage calculations?
I don't have one for ATI because I can't remember if we used that or not haha. I'm gonna make one on dosage calculations soon. but Khan academy on youtube has some that are very helpful!
Aww thank you so much!! This video may be helpful :) th-cam.com/video/xJlYwk-OIDs/w-d-xo.html If you have any other questions hit me up on instagram! Messaging is easy there. @im.nurse.liz
I just started nursing school, and I know that this is what I want to do because I've been waiting for so long to get in the program, but OH MY GOD! Orientation and day 1 scared the living hell out of me.
Hi Liz! I REALLY hope you see this. I just found your channel and let's just say you're my new favorite TH-camr! A few questions: 1. I just started my first semester of nursing school (incl. Fundamentals, health assessment, etc.). Do you think picmonic would be useful for me? 2. Was nursing school hard for you? You mentioned that you studied 20 mins a day. Was that sufficient for you? How long were your "lectures", for reviewing? Sorry for all of the questions! I really want to do well in nursing school and be a great nurse!
Hey!! I don’t think you’d need Picmonic yet, those classes are more conceptual! And study however it works for you!! I studied more when it was testing week, and you’ll find what works for you just like I did. You got this!
@@NurseLiz Thanks for the response! I'll wait until next semester to get it then, since I'll have pharm/patho. Can you do a video specifically for studying for exams?
Thank you so much for this! I'm starting a program next month to get my NP in a year, then go on to become an AGNP from there. This is so helpful, I'm especially looking forward to Picmonic since I start with Pharma and Patho this semester! Thank you again!
Super helpful tips!! Love the recommendation about reviewing every day for 15-20 mins. I tend to spend so much time preparing my notes and not enough time actually studying.
I am a visual learner and I know most professors want students to read the textbook before class and I hate reading the textbook because I don't understand what im reading and it's a waste of time. Any suggestions on how to read a textbook effectively?
I'm starting my BSN journey in another month, and I'm planning to pursue my NP degree, and I am a paper pen note taker lol what tips do you have for preparing before starting the BSN program?
@@NurseLiz I'm in fundamental. My Prof. recommend Saunders, Lippincott review books and someone mentioned Pearson Reviews & Rationales: Nursing Fundamentals. There are many different one and I don't know which one to get.
Hi Liz!! Just got accepted in NP school (psych), watching your tips for success. Thank you for making all of these, by the way. Just wondering, which book do you recommend for board review and questions? When I looked at the board books, there is one specifically for psych, but I hesitate to buy it because I'm not sure it'll have everything I need for the general CORE classes (pharm, patho, health assessment).
There's no great review book for the core classes unfortunately. I do have videos on how I studied for all three of those classes if you search my name and the class!
@@NurseLiz I've actually reviewed those videos and even took notes on them to prepare for school. I hope your repeated "don't procrastinate" warning actually sinks in for me this time through. I either do things super early or I do them right at the last minute and cram. Again, thank you so much for all of the videos. I can't tell you how much it helps to not only have the tips, but also the real life experiences to go with it. Hope you're feeling better (you were sick recently) and things are going well adjusting to telehealth.
Nurse Liz you are amazing. I start nursing school this fall, so I don't want to purchase picmonic so early and then have it expire before I finish my two year program. I will use your code at the end of August and hopefully it will still be active. Thank you!!!
You have to be careful using someone else's quizlet. I've found wrong answers before. Another free alternative to quizlet is Anki. Anki has spaced repetition built in based how you respond to how well you know the card and will only show you certain "cards" s set number of times per day. The problem is that the proper science behind spaced repetition, as far as intervals, does not always match up with real life. For example, Anki might want you to space the cards over a month, when your test is in a week. There are ways around it, but still...
I start nursing school in the fall. my university’s nursing program requires you to pass all nursing classes with at least a B / 84% in order to say in the program. I am so terrified of getting kicked out. help
Is picmonic also available in other languages?? I live in Belgium and even though I understand English very well, my classes won't be in English but I want to use something simular when I start next month
Thats a really good question, I'm honestly not sure! They are pretty responsible with their email, so I'm sure if you sent one over to them it would get right back to you!
I'd look on their website and see if they have a program geared toward LVN/LPN! I'm not familiar with the curriculum for those programs, but if the content is similiar to nursing school it should be helpful! I'd for sure sign up for the free trial and see if you find it helpful though!
It’s great I’m only in my 3rd quarter of nursing but by spring time when we are in our 5th quarter we have to have it to study because the last 2 quarters is focused on practicing the NCLEX. I guess our school wants to keep our 95 pass rate on the first try lol. Yes I am a procrastinator too, I should be studying right now on the fact I don’t have to be back in class until Thursday. But I am going to try picmonic now. Eventually I want to go to FNP and do pediatrics. I can’t wait until 5th quarter that is when we go to the children’s hospital. I want to work either OB nursing or Pediatric/NICU nursing
Just got accepted to Galen for their nursing program. Sadly I don't have the money for it and I can't get financial aid so I'm not sure if I can start the program in the summer 😭😭😭
congratulations on your acceptance! That is super frustrating though :( Ugh. I hate how expensive nursing school/higher ed in general is. Makes it unatainable for so so many people who would be phenomenal in the roles.
@@NurseLiz well from now until the summer I'm going to just pick up hours as much as I can at the nursing home I work in as a CNA and hopefully I can get a fulltime job at a hospital that way I can make the money to go. Cause if I don't do it there, I have to finish more prerequisites at a community college
What’s your favorite place to hole up and study??
I made a study nook in a corner of my basement. Candles, jazz station on mini stereo surrounded by my books and most of my favorite things.
MsDivaOneLuv812 that sounds awesome! I share your need for a candle 👌🏻
Nurse Liz Vanderbilt Library 📚 and my desk late at night when everyone is sleeping or at work.
Nadi Nad peace and quiet! Sounds 👌🏻
Uni's library late at night (6-10pm) there's hardly anyone there and I know that the temp will be perfect and no distractions in the "silent rooms"

I also have my coffee or Sonic drink depending upon the time. :) My wife crochets while I study. We are both happy with the arrangement because we actually semi-spend time together, but we are doing very independent things.

Also can you please do a video just going over all materials you will need/recommend for nursing school especially for a BSN Program?
I have that included in my recent “how to prepare for nursing school” video! You don’t need much 🙂
I just used your code to buy a year of picmonic because I got my first bad grade in MS1, hope this helps..

Sounds good! All I do to "study" is read through my notes a few times, nothing special!
Thank you so much for this! I'm starting a program next month to get my NP in a year, then go on to become an AGNP from there. This is so helpful, I'm especially looking forward to Picmonic since I start with Pharma and Patho this semester! Thank you again!
Junelle Shepard so glad it was helpful! Best of luck! You’ll do great!
Fabulous video, Thank you for the tips on how to study in nursing and np school
Glad they were helpful!
Great tips! thank you for sharing!
Anastasia Kalashnik hope some of them work for you!!
So much good information 😀 Thank you
Of course! Glad it was helpful!
Hi , any tips on studying” Nursing Theory “
Thank you for your videos ❤️❤️
Glad they’re helpful!
I just found your channel and love it! Do you have any specific videos on studying for MedSurge 2 and 3?
Hello and welcome! I don’t, just ones on how I study and take notes in general. Pretty much applies to all classes!
Thanks🙏🏻💜
Thank you sharing is the Picmonic app just for nurse practitioner school or can use this app for getting my BSN?
For RN as well! When you register (doesn’t matter paid or free) you can choose your path!
Super helpful tips!! Love the recommendation about reviewing every day for 15-20 mins. I tend to spend so much time preparing my notes and not enough time actually studying.
I know that life! I could get so caught up in making them pretty and then not actually look at them ever again 😂
What was the medicine podcast you recommended in one of your videos?
I have a whole video on which podcasts I recommend with a healthcare focus! Just search "nurse liz podcasts" and it should show up :)
What review books would you recommend? like Sauders, Lippincott, ect.
For what?
@@NurseLiz I'm in fundamental. My Prof. recommend Saunders, Lippincott review books and someone mentioned Pearson Reviews & Rationales: Nursing Fundamentals. There are many different one and I don't know which one to get.
What ar the things to due before doing nursing
Your videos are fantastic.
Thank you! I appreciate that :)
How long is the code active until ?
I believe 90 days from whenever this was originally posted. But if you need it after that I can contact them and see if we can work something out!
Nurse Liz you are amazing. I start nursing school this fall, so I don't want to purchase picmonic so early and then have it expire before I finish my two year program. I will use your code at the end of August and hopefully it will still be active. Thank you!!!
Maya sounds like a plan!! Enjoy your summer!!
What’s the Picmonic Code?

You have to be careful using someone else's quizlet. I've found wrong answers before. Another free alternative to quizlet is Anki. Anki has spaced repetition built in based how you respond to how well you know the card and will only show you certain "cards" s set number of times per day. The problem is that the proper science behind spaced repetition, as far as intervals, does not always match up with real life. For example, Anki might want you to space the cards over a month, when your test is in a week. There are ways around it, but still...
Thank you for this!! I've never heard of that.
I start nursing school in the fall. my university’s nursing program requires you to pass all nursing classes with at least a B / 84% in order to say in the program. I am so terrified of getting kicked out. help
You'll be ok! COntact professors if you are struggling and just do your best!
Thanks for the great tips
ewojcie1 good luck studying!! Hope they help 🙂
I need to know what brand are your glasses
warby parker!
Does this app supports french language???
Thank you so much!
I want learn now how i learn as online
Do you recommend Picmonic for LVN/LPN student?
I'd look on their website and see if they have a program geared toward LVN/LPN! I'm not familiar with the curriculum for those programs, but if the content is similiar to nursing school it should be helpful! I'd for sure sign up for the free trial and see if you find it helpful though!
Hey Liz, do you have a updated code for picmonic?
The one in the description of this video should work! Let me know if it doesn’t 🙂
I love quizlet, Uworld is great for NCLEX practice it haves over 3000 question test bank. It’s 250$ but worth it
I've heard awesome things about uworld!
