  • There is so much choice for consumers when it comes to buying a recurve target bow. I wanted to run through the bits on the bow, how much it costs, what you need and basic setup.

At least your an honest salesman !! That's worth a lot in my book.. There are archery shops that I know around me and 1 in particular that open up a 6 pack of cheap training arrows worth about 28 quid a box and sell the arrows for 13.50 each.. I never set foot near the place.. Grinds my gears that there selling those arrows to parents for there kids bows.. Some of the parents probably say no that's too expensive a hobby !!

If you are so stupid to spend that much on arrows, without reading first, you deserve to be scammed

I now have a top quality Win and Win Recurve bow (with all accessories), which is my first bow ever owned. Have just ordered a new target. I'm now subscribed to your great videos Steven, as I need as much advice and help as possible. Looking forward to my new hobbie, and once I get more knowledge and experience I'll consider joining a local club (United Kingdom). Thanks for your tips & honest advice.

The first decision should be to decide on your goal before spending this much money on a professional kit with all the potential bells and whistles. Also, consider whether you're up to shooting two to three hundred arrows a day every day to become good enough to shoot competitively.

Thanks Steven. Great post. Just bought a couple of target boys from your store for my sons - had about $500 each and was very happy.
Question - What is the red silicon? band around the top and bottom of the riser where the limbs slot in? I have never seen this before.

Steve, don't forget that there are those of us that are disabled. I now have to shoot a 64" so as not to catch the string on my wheelchair! I wish more companies, (such as Hoyt) would think about that! 😊😊😊

Very informative, thank you for the vid.
Your vids in the past, you've shown "premium" and "top price" Olympic style recurve bows.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, . . . is to create an Olympic style recurve UNDER $800 complete, including arrows n release aid.
In short, for those on a budget.
    Can you do it?

Hey Archery Supplies, What target recurve bow for a 9year old (been shooting with a club bow for a year now)
    He's 130cm tall (4ft), and a 21" draw length. Budget is around 300euro

Love your videos! Have a quick question - I've measured my draw length at about 28", from groove in nock to the deepest part of grip at the throat, as per the usual way of measuring. Is that my draw weight that I can use to gauge how much weight I'm pulling on my fingers? So in this case I'd be pulling approximately the weight specified on the limbs - ie. I'd be pulling 30lbs on the fingers for a pair of limbs marked 30# ? I've read on various websites that I should add another 1.75" to the initial measurement of 28", so that would give me a draw length of 29.75", so I'd be pulling more than 30lbs and probably nearer to 33/34lb on 30# limbs. So my question is - is my draw length 28" or 29.75", as this measurement has a drastic effect on when I'm choosing the weight of limbs to buy? I'm looking at Winners & Win & Win limbs just for example as I know manufacturers use different measurements for their limb weights. Thanks for any clarification on this. I'm sure this confuses a lot of people so would be good to know what's the correct measurement.

Mind, you can tune the arms in riser to get slightly more or slightly less draw force

Metal nocking points hurts like hell if you get hit by the string, and miss the armguard. I Still have a mark from one, and it is two month ago since I shot a club bow that had metal nocking points and the wrong brace height and no armguard.

i find a brass nock can tear up the tab a bit as well. nice video Steve, i am new to the 'curve too, our rigs are very similar. as a long time compound shooter i find Recurve to be brutally unforgiving, immensely rewarding, supremely challenging and absolutely fun, i get the "newbie" joy of archery again.

Why does a semi-serious target archer buys a bow and gear for 3000 usd when he himself says he could get away with a setup 6th the price and wouldn't really shoot worse? Because he can afford it. Oh and it matches his colors. Important stuff.

sorry but im shooting with a £40 sight and didnt have anything on it come loose even once, suggesting that spending over $300 will give you a guarantee of quality is just false.

Now i wana know something mate, what the fuck is incompatible riser. Theres no such thing as ILF foam limbs not fitting an ILF riser. The limb can be twisted, the riser can made by a chinese dude in a shed with 0 quality control, the riser can have prioprietary fittings like the hoyt its-ment-to-be-paid-PRO but thats what warranty is for. Seriously if my ilf limbs did not fit ilf riser i would take them to the store myself and ask for manager immediately before the clerk can finish the word "incompatible".

Hah my other lifetime obsession is bicycle racing. The world of carbonfiber. A decent CF wheelset is $2000. My race bikes are at least $7000-$8000 each. Archery is cheap. but same "marginal gain" investment trap :-)

$3,000 invested in a bow and has a cheap, crappy plunger button?? He would never be able to tell the difference between tied on or crimp on string nocks if he shoots crap anyway?

If he was an elite archer he may notice the difference between a $500 and $2,000 bow? But he spends $3,000 on that PSE.What a contradiction!! Cannot believe anything he says!
