  • These bikes are loud in operation but there is a simple problem that happens causing a loud knocking noise from the bottom end and it can cost you a lot of money if you don't do this

You know, my bike goes from making a fairly loud clacking noise, to not. It’s kinda random, but maybe it happens more when it’s hot. I have a full exhaust and an intake/powercommander and SAS delete but I don’t think any of those things would contribute to the noise. In my experience so far, these bikes do make a bit of a loud clacking noise. Almost like in an old school car if your lifters are loose. Other than that, bike constantly runs great. Also, my nut referenced in this video was not loose at all. But I did check cause the noise sounds concerning, but apparently it’s not. I had my 6600 mile service done fully expecting to hear something negative but my lifters weren’t even out of adjustment. And I ride my bike hard (hit limiter constantly)

Okay this is the first time I have heard this. I have a 2017 Duke 690 that has been doing that for a while put everybody says that's normal. So thank you I'm going to do this immediately. I wanted to ask you I tried to go through your videos to find the key way video? But I couldn't find it. So what is it? And how do I fix it if it is f***** off? Do you have any links to videos? Is it on the bottom of the engine as well? Thank you bro.

I believe on my 16 it's left hand thread. I figured that out after i took the impact off of it and saw the L on the nut, but not before i held my finger down on the 1/2" milwaukee

Yes, it is on all of them. It's crazy the first time you feel one loose with your finger. You almost think it was that easy to move the crank, then you remember it's a 690/701

Love the vid man, I am opening my clutch cover tomorrow to have a look. Also checking rocker arms, although I always heard the rockers were fixed by 2015, do you know if that's true? Also, is it normal for the engine to sound louder when its hot? Or could that be an indicator of this issue?

Mike V no sound is normal...
mine purrs like a kitten now... but no, mine was 2016 and still had the older ones, for a couple hundred dollars I wasn’t going to trust ktm or Husqvarna with it...
Also need to note I ran her in like a virgin should be ran in... and then changed oil and filter....
the bike is perfect now 👌

Mike V you’ll need to check cam chain regardless, as the tensioner is hydraulic and there’s nothing to judge it’s adjustment by.... 🤦🏻‍♂️

TheWelderandrew you’re a legend man thanks so much for the help. I wish I saw this last season!

TheWelderandrew welp, rocker arms don’t look like they’re gonna grenade soon but the bearing was almost catching my nail.. and I couldn’t even get a .05 feeler gauge in there! Yikes! Just to be sure I have both rockers coming thru the mail and a shim kit (I know I could have just ordered what I need but eh, I plan I keeping the bike forever). I just wanted to thank you for your help! Hopefully all is sounding better once it’s back in spec

TheWelderandrew oh yeah forgot to mention the cam chain was super stiff so I don’t think it’s the tensioner.. I hope everything is sounding better once I get the valves in spec and put new rockers in it.

Was the primary drive nut back out and touching the clutch cover case? I can not move mine with my fingers on my 2018 I have a good ol mystery tick, I tried to put the smallest feeler gauge in between and the nut is touching case but doesnt look loose.. normal? Waiting on gasket in mail then pulling cover off

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? My bolt too is very close to the casing, but like yours, has no play whatsoever.

dude ill let you know in a couple hours if you just reached legend status....your one out of hundreds who say its not normal... engines should sound smooth, even my old sm610, ill investigate and repost, but what does Husqvarna or KTM say about this, being as its a factory bodge ?
ill video my strip, check and send it to them and see what they say.....
