    A truck driver? I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years. A supervisor once asked me if I loved my job and I looked him square in the eyes and said "No". He sure was surprised at my answer, and then I said ".....but I'm good at it and it allows me to do what I really love." We are only here for a short while and you HAVE TO find a good balance for you. I wish you all the best in your new endeavor. Once again, nice playing Troy.

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I get that a lot. I hear you. As I may have said (I don't remember exactly what I wrote), "I only work to support my interests that lie outside of work." I show up every day. Do a hard day's work. And expect to be set free to live my life the best way that I can during the few hours that remain before I need to go to sleep. The new endeavor did not work out and I'm on to the next. Thanks Donald.

    Hahaha!!!!!!!! OUTSTANDING! Great bass line by Chip Douglass and very well played as usual! It's infectious. You just can't stop playing it at the end. I was an over the road tractor trailer driver years ago. They're a pain in the a** to deal with (regulations regulations regulations - you have to go ten miles out of your way to turn around). Best of luck with your new gig. Straight truck driving RULES! I will never be coaxed back to class A.

    I grin at virtually everything you play - especially the tunes that take me back in time. Instant flashback moment listening to this rendition that you of course....pull off expertly. Little subtle syncopations really added a nice nuance to this. Nicely done, mate....as per usual!

    My God, what a blast from my youth! It's mind boggling to think about the tremendous number of different genres of music that were available with a flick of the radio knob from 1960-1980. I was blessed to have those songs to provide the soundtrack of my life!

    The use of this song in Spongebob was very clever. In one of the specials of the show "Spongebob Squarepants Vs. The Big One", The Flying Dutchman floats down after a fight scene with Mr. Krabs and a tube sock falls on his nose, leading to a guest appearance by Davey Jones himself. Jones throws a dirty sock at The Flying Dutchman after singing a line from this song and then the song itself plays as The Flying Dutchman screams in disgust and shock while Davey Jones is just laughing his head off. That scene was just so perfect when you know Davey Jones's Locker was a running theme in the previous episodes that featured The Flying Dutchman.

    Very nice pick for a Sunday afternoon, sounded cool. I just recently heard the original of this by John Stewart. A bit more country, but it's cool. Actually, some grilled peaches, vanilla ice cream, and maybe a balsmic drizzle sounds pretty good. Good luck on the new job, I hope it works out. Have you ever heard Demon Trucker by Jade Warrior? It's not metal, more of a 70s funky/rock thing. Could be your new theme song 😁

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Jim. I'll have to check that out. John Stewart played with The Kingston Trio, right? Ok, Gordon Ramsey. First they brought over potatoes... I said, "Well, I've never grilled potatoes before, but what's the worst that can happen?" Then cauliflower... ok. Then peaches! I was like, "Are you just fucking with me now?" Thanks, I don't think the new place is a good fit. I've got two other firm offers. One is a similar job for the same money. The other is driving for our regional food bank. It's a huge pay cut, but I'm really leaning towards that one. It's got a lot of pluses, like - regular hours, local driving, 9 minutes from my house, and the fact that I'd be actually providing a needed service. Really, the only downside is the pay and we can afford to take the hit. No, I have never heard that. I'll have to check it out.

    What a trip back in time. I remember playing this on my little portable record player. The Monkees had lots of great songs. Speaking of great songs, I suggested you do Extreme's "Get The Funk Out" and you covered it. Two songs that come to mind that might be of interest to you are "Him" by Rupert Holmes and "Every Kinda People" by Robert Palmer. Both have great melodic bass lines that really compliment the song well. All the best to you in your new position. Hopefully you will still have the energy after work to keep up the awesome videos we've come to love hearing. 👍

It's actually a great time to be a driver with a solid work history, a clean license, and a good medical card, so I have a few options in front of me right now which is not a position I am used to being in. The new job is much less driving. Before I was doing like 300-500 miles a day. This is more "local" deliveries... at least in the same state anyway. I did not want to ask your occupation but imagined, with those awesome prehensile fingers something in which manual dexterity would feature very strongly. Truck driver certainly a surprise. I'm very glad to hear that you liked it. I get that a lot, but growing up, for lack of a better word, "lower-class" meant that college or any sort of formal education was pretty much out of the question. I've always worked "blue collar" type jobs. I only work to support my interests outside of work and I've found driving to be a fairly decent way to accomplish that. I played a Bach piece many years ago with a rock group and that's the extent of it. I'm struggling to remember the name.

      @@TJH3113 There is nothing wrong with "lower class" Troy. My folks were very poor working class too, not much money in fishing after WWI I. I was the ultimate high school drop out too but paradoxically became a teacher and adviser! Go figure. I have often thought "We don't need no education" was written personally for me. Some succeed despite schools! Many classical pieces have inspired popular music, Vivaldi Bach, Mozart. Bouree for example. Cheers from "Down under".

    Your "street cred" has just shot up a notch for me now. Lol. I've been driving big rigs and heavy equipment for 30+ years, about 2.5 million miles under my arse. Over half of that probably oversized loads of heavy equipment. You are an inspiration. I love your playing, stories and background. Found your channel back last November as I was looking for bass cover tunes to learn. My 12 daughter was searching for me as I was fumbling thru tutorial videos on "Crazy Train" and she searched for her video of "War Pigs" I posted on TH-cam of her jamming out th-cam.com/video/-OO4NEeNuuQ/w-d-xo.html when your video popped up and she noticed your background and she fell in love, as she is all about the ghost and goblins as well. We sat for hours in the living room watching you in amazement. I am a huge Rush fan. 1st ever concert at the Palace theater in Albany "Permanent Waves". 11 years old, snuck out and went with older friends. Certainly an eye opening experience in soooooo many ways. I've never looked back. That was the start of my true love of just about all music. I set up a cardboard drum set and begged for years for my parents to bring me a real one for Christmas. Finally they did. On Christmas break when I was 14 a friend had also got a bass and amp for Christmas and we knew another friend over the summer got a guitar and amp for his birthday. Time to jam!!! All I remember is we were freezing, in my buddies garage it was maybe 25° out but we didn't care. We sounded terrible, it was awesome! I never really had the time to practice much because I was always working throughout my school years, therefore never got that good. Once I graduated and moved out, it was tough to fit a drum set in an apartment that I shared with 2 others. Lol. It was suggested that I play guitar as it "didn't take up much space and you could play with headphones on whenever you wanted". I did just that and took some lessons and was progressing nicely until I climbed a fence, slipped and lost my pinky finger on my left hand. Uhg. Guitar days...done. It took many years to get the dexterity back. Still had the drum set and was asked to go jam one day. I hadn't really played in 10 years. I lasted about an hour and my left hand was numb. I realized at that time I'd never really be able to play at a level that I needed to be at. I always fiddled around with the guitar and bass and had an ear for music. A friend asked me back in November to learn some simple songs on bass. No frills, just "simple" as he put it. Lmao...this leads me to where I am today. Practicing as much as my hand allows me to which isn't long. I've got maybe 12-15 songs I can get thru. Missing that finger is tough at times but I fumble thru. Fake it til ya make it. Lol but my daughter loves when she hears me play as bad as it sounds. She also loves to ride in the rig with me whenever she can. I've passed down the "love of all music" torch to her as well. She plays the clarinet and loves when I listen "beautiful music" (classical) as well as Black Sabbath, Rush and so on. Now days, Lord help me, she's at the age of listening to hip hop. Smh. I pray this will end asap. That and most rap I just can't handle. Sorry for the long winded comment and life story. Lol. Too much coffee on a Sunday morning.

      Hey, thanks so much for the kind words, Ron. I greatly appreciate them.
      Most of the masks are from DeathStudios, if your daughter is serious about possible getting one. I've been a customer of Jeff's for well over 20 years. He's one of a kind... a real "one man show".
      Funny you mentioned The Palace in Albany. My wife and I saw Kansas there last October. It was just the sort of beautiful old theatre that we love going to.
      Thanks for sharing a bit of your story. I'd love to comment on every element, but I must move on. If I don't keep up on responses they tend to pile up quickly. I'm sorry to hear about losing your pinky, but I'll tell you, one of the only bad habits I developed as a self-taught bass player was not using my pinky. If you look as some of my early videos you'll see that I rarely used it. I've seemed to have worked it in a bit over the 10 years since I've been doing the channel, but I always got along pretty good before that without using it. Some stuff was awkward, but I made it work and I think you can do the same. Fake it til ya make it are words to live by, truly. Thanks again, Ron and take care of yourself and your family.
