Alex, you don't need an engraver. Thee most beautiful engravings are done by hand! Just look up gunsmith engravers. You have a natural talent, please continue to use it! Bob and Teresa
Wow! Glad to read really! Thank you Bob and Teresa. I just think it's an electronic tool that makes the lines smoother and clearer. And I'm not doing it quite symmetrically.
@@ScrewsAndTools amazing restoration, you are very talented. I like the way you do the engraving, but is up to you to choose your tools, you are the man.
@@ScrewsAndToolsI am in agreement with Bob and Teresa. You keep apologizing for using what you call primitive methods but I don’t understand why. Hand work is how many of the items you restore were made in the first place, and to me you are keeping to the spirit of the craftsmen in whose steps you follow. Showing us these methods is also educational, answering the question “how was work like this done before power tools?”. Yes, you can make straighter lines and smoother curves with an electric engraver. But really, will it be *better*? Perhaps you feel some shame that your hand engraving isn’t as good as you want it to be. To my eye, you have improved substantially over earlier efforts. More practice is how we all get better at anything we do. If you acquire an electric engraver, you will be tempted to stop trying to get better at hand engraving, and part of you will be frustrated because of that. It is your channel, your life and your choice. But please, don’t stop showing us those “primitive” methods.
Why sorry for the "primitive old method"? You should be proud to be able to create such decorations with simple tools, our ancestors worked with those methods as well! It's a sign of true craftsmanship!
I'm sure it's faster and more efficient with a powered engraver, but tbh, I love watching you do the work by hand. It holds more value and meaning in my opinion when something is done by hand rather than a machine. Keep up the amazing work Alex!
Hand engraving is much more valuable than a machine. I know it takes more time but it us a list art! You did a masterful job on this! Thank you Alex 🙏🙏
I agree with a lot of viewers' comments below - use what talents you have. Electronic devices are labour saving not skill replacements. Keep up the good work Alex, you're a real craftsman and should be very proud of yourself.
These are all well-intended and well-deserved compliments! Indeed, the process and outcome of the restorations are beautiful and carry a personal touch. But ultimately, what matters most is what brings the creator the most joy, satisfaction, and fulfillment. Specific tools simply yield better results. If your goal is to work with as few tools as possible, that’s great! It offers its own sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. However, in my opinion, using certain tools in no way undermines your craftsmanship, passion, or love for your work!
The mechanic engravers do a perfect job. But the manual engraving make these work unique 'cause each movement and each scratch is unrepeatable, and it's also the "signature" of yours. 👍🏻👏🏻. Greetings from Tucumán, Argentina.🇦🇷

Beautiful restoration job you did restoring the dagger. You also made a beautiful new scabbard for the dagger, and even sharpened the blade. It looks much better than before and it cuts like a knife as well. Excellent work.

Ну удары по сухому буку была для проверки прочности заклепок. Это важно, а то после пайки могло пойти искривление штифта и плашка бы сдвинулась.
for the horn use boiling oil before to press it !!!nice job
