I have never pureed fruit and then freeze dried, but I love the idea and plan to do it. I have FD'd banana slices that I put in a little lemon juice and the bananas did not turn brown at all. Banana slices are so dang good when added to cereal then pouring milk over them. Oh my goodness, they are so good. The blueberry puree and pineapple puree look fantastic. I'm so excited to try it. I did try freeze drying blueberries when I first got my Harvest Right, but wasn't impressed lol. I have done pineapple chunks and it turned out great. But I love the idea of pureeing ....Thanks for the great ideas...Your such a doll....God bless you all...Sherri-Idaho

This is a serious question and not a critical one... Why blend all the ingredients? Why not freeze dry them and then blend into a powder. I am sure there is a good reason but I cannot think of one other than being able to fit more on the tray? 😎

I always welcome the questions! I just hope I have the answers 🤣 I have just seen other freeze dryers say that when you want specifically fruit powders, they turn out better and more consistent powders when you blend them up prior to freeze drying. I haven’t tested it myself yet leaving them whole, freeze drying and then powdering with fruits.
I did freeze dry onions / peppers just roughly chopped, then powdered them to make onion powder and chili powder and it worked great! Maybe wasn’t quite as smooth of a powder as this puréed way but it worked fine. So I guess my next experiment is to freeze dry the fruits without blending first, make powder; and see if there’s a difference. I probably got more fruit on the tray by blending it first than if they were left whole… I need to compare
Anyway hopefully that helps somewhat!! Thanks for watching!

@@DIYfreezedry That makes sense! If you think about it, blending into a paste will make smaller crystals during the freezing process. More work but better results!

I find blending before freeze drying allows a larger volume to be done on each tray.... saves space, time and $

I can't wait to own one of these things! Have you tried freeze drying mochi (plain &/or ice cream filled) or Botan Rice Candy? Although maybe both are tough to find in Alaska. How about Turkish Delight? I'm just trying to think of things I haven't seen done yet. I bet the Boton Rice candy would expand a bunch. Where I'm from you can usually find it in the Asian section of any grocery store, even the crappy small stores. :)

Those ideas are awesome I definitely want to try the Mochi - and some of those things I haven’t heard of will have to check that out!!

@@DIYfreezedry I find it in the canning section of our store. I think it's citric acid. Definitely keeps fruit from turning. I use it on avocados, bananas and in my water when cutting potatoes and egg plant.

I’m curious if the kids going to school in the dark is during standard time or daylight saving time, or if it wouldn’t matter either way. Unless it’s during daylight saving time, I would behoove you to write to Iowa’s Chuck Grassley and let him know. He’s one of the outspoken representatives who is against daylight saving time year-around because “the little kids shouldn’t have to go to school in the dark.”
I believe he’s unaware of all the children who go to school in the dark right now, and maybe it wouldn’t matter for the one month in Winter.
Senator Mark Rubio has tried unsuccessfully to pass legislation allowing states that want to be on daylight saving year-round the ability to do so. It passes yhe Senate with bipartisan support, but then stalls in the House.

Frustrating! Yeah it definitely messes with the morning darkness factor at first - but then our kids are going to school in the dark at least 3 months of the year 😫 the worst is December/Janurary. But I guess it’s something Alaskans are just used to. I’m from Arizona and they don’t do daylight savings which was nice haha. We finally have our daylight back, it’s light around 730ish and sun setting around 8pm…. Soon to constant light which I love! Just hard to know when to go to bed if you aren’t paying attention to the clock 😂
