How valuable was this advice??!!! Don’t ever play anyone else’s style, and counter the pace. Facts that we all forget during a tough match. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate your videos and the time you put into them.
He is referring to the Japanese new style of playing off the bounce with a more hitting style. If that isn't your natural style, don't try to play like them, you will lose. Play your own game, and try to prevent them from playing theirs. I got the same advice from a coach in Melbourne some years ago, and it really does make sense. You can't suddenly change your style part way through a match.
XX had that look on his face like my kids used to when I tried to tell them something. My words go in one ear and out the other without even stopping for a rest.
LGL is probably the most intelligent table tennis player and coach with deep understanding of the game and his players. Even Chen Qi is listening so intensely.
The great Bruce Lee in the epic movie, Enter the dragon, in reply to someone's question, "What's your style"? says "The art of fighting without fighting", which in this context is "The art of playing without playing". The intent of Lee's statement is embrace everything, don't hold one style to be superior to others; be flexible and adapt and do not copy others blindly.
i believe first or second or third timing will be likely ball placement or timing when receiving the next shot... frm what i understand it also could be control of the ball receive, meaning by not taking it fast, u go with a pace of 3,2 then slowly change gear to one, to break opponents mental and psychical state of mind...
Maybe the timing is like this: 1st is short after the ball bounces the table (ascending point) 2nd is when the ball reaches the highest point 3rd is when the ball is going down, from any point later then the highest point to before the ball touches the ground
Bassically LGL told XX to not try to win the points with aggressive play off the bounce since its not XX’s strength. He should play slower with spinny loops to win the 7th or 8th ball not trying to win the first few balls against aggressive players like FZD or ML
Normally 3rd timing is the highest bounce of the ball. Players nowadays play with much faster pace at 1st (right off the bounce) or 2nd timing since the introduction of the new plastic ball

Xu xin has and is a unique talent, even graceful. He is kung fu while others are boxers. I am so sure director liu wouldn't downtalk on ma long or fan zhendong like that even in the same situation. Maybe he quietly envies xu and his looping, since he was a flat hitter. Also bullying him in national team training calling him the cloudwalker because he was slow(he just needed more footwork flow; he was not a bad player, no need to bully) I see he was marginalised within the national team and other players received "better" training or preference(like the other two mentioned in the video). They rely on power while xu is graceful and as strong. They just didn't understand his mystical gifts and focused on those who could brute force the ball or are more "agressive". Xu is serpentine venom while the others are wrecking balls. Venom kills anyway, you just don't see it coming.
One question : I,m from Georgia (on the Black Sea) and wish to start correct training, Is anyone in your area is available to come to my country for couple of week or month ? We can discuss this issue in details upon your request.
Nope, its about the bounce of the ball. Basically Xu Xin is not good at aggressive play off the bounce. Coach LGL told him to play with slower spinny loops to slow down the pace of aggressive opponents like FZD or ML
@@bakervinci163 not attack but the position of the ball after contact the table. Normally the 3rd position is where the ball bounce the highest. On the other hand, 3rd ball attack is when you attack after the opponent receives your serve
@@bakervinci163 It's not about the attack it's about timing, Xu Xin stands further back and takes the ball later than most players, therefore he should not rally with Harimoto close to the table with fast attack/ speed but slow down the pace and spin the ball
Maybe true, but I think what he was saying is that you can't beat Harimoto using Harimoto's style, you have to make Harimoto play your style of game, slower with scary spin, and get into his head.

Waow... great advice from world class coach!
would love more translations of Liu's coaching advice to top players

To be fair, Xu Xin already does everything Lui was saying here, it was probably nothing new

I usually try to attack on the backhand to avoid more offensive play and when I notice a set up for a pivot I play in forehand
