The 307 engines are nearly indestructible. The fact that this car not only looks pristine but has under 3k miles makes this car worth well over it's MSRP.
Hiya, Wiz! Nice car, good presentation. A couple tidbits for you: The little doodads atop the front fenders were fiber-optics, which shone in different colors, to indicate which bulb were illuminated. The cowl did NOT move to accommodate the wipers. It was fixed, but had plenty of clearance. The steering wheel was not a "custom" steering wheel. There were several options from Buick. Factory installed. This wheel is an up scale wheel from Buick.
Wow!! What a beautiful car! My grandmother always owned a Riviera in the eighties and nineties until she passed away. She had one just like this only it was a lilac metal flake color. I remember loving to honk that 4 note horn whenever she would let me! Great childhood memories!

Back at that time, my Dad was General Manager for a Buick dealership in Conroe, Texas.
He knew one of the Buick Reps pretty well, and he was able to order "custom" Demo cars for himself...
One that he got was a beautiful, deep reddish -brown convertible Riv, that had a gorgeous dark brown SUEDE interior.
I don't know what became of that car when it was his time to return it, but I sure do remember the good times we had cruising around in it!
I’m neither a GM fan, nor a lover of Brougham-era cars, but for some reason I’ve always really liked these. No idea why. And this one is amazing.
Around 1980, one of my paper-route customers bought one of these (or was it a Toronado?) brand new…but with hail damage. The storm had been so bad that the dealers couldn’t get enough hoods and deck lids to repair them all. I think he got something like 40% off the sticker. He didn’t care about all the dimples - didn’t affect how it ran - and he ran it until he died a few years later.
Old man had one. Same color, no plastic top, all steel. What a great date ride.

My dad had an 85 T type turbo white Riviera. When we would pull up to the gas station people would surround it like it was a Rolls-Royce. Beautiful car
How beautiful! I wish more cars came with white-wall tyres today... It changes the look completely! Simply amazing!
Having had a few of these, typically the interior holds up well other than the headliner. You might get a crack or two in the dash pad and the door pulls the end trim sometimes comes apart. The tilt column can get loose. But that's usually about it unless it's seen an abnormal amount of use or sun/heat.
The biggest issue with these era of GM cars is the frames rot out primarily in the rear where they curve up to clear the rear axle, and sometimes into the trailing arm mounts (RWD cars) and around the jack locator holes. Cars with the 200R4 and 700R4 can have issues because it took a few years for GM to work the bugs out. And the computer controlled carb is a tough beast to manage, particularly now that it's obsolete.
Yes, the old radials are dangerous. They can blow up without any warning at all. This car must have been stored on blocks or jackstands with the tires deflated and kept from UV exposure.
This car is super super nice, and that's almost it's downfall. You can't do much with it but look at it. If you drive it very much, you put miles on it and then it's not like new anymore. It might be better if it had 15, 20, 25K on it and you could drive it to car shows and things and enjoy it.
This is as close to brand new as 1980's Buicks get! What a beauty!

This is the 1979 - 1985 GM E-body. This was the last platform from GM to be FWD with a longitudinally mounted engine. All FWD GM's from 1986 onward was transverse mounted; GM has not made a longitudinally mounted FWD car since.
Now that is an intro for a beauty of a car! Nice find Bob!
Best sounding horn, ever!. Those transmissions were used in the fwd GMC motor homes. Very nice vehicle. Hopefully it goes to someone who will appreciate and preserve this pristine piece of automotive history. 👍👍👍
It's the "trumpet horn" option on cadillac it was U09 I think. It is 4 horns a, c, d & f. The option was around from i think late 70's until 2000 over the years the horns did vary. With some looking like trumpets others like normal auto horns. You can use any of them though if you want to install a set. Just be sure to check as mounting and wiring will vary as some use the bolt as a ground others have a positive and negative terminal on each.

Great post Car Wizard - thanks for sharing. This is the last year of this beautiful, classic body style. When in college, I owned a first year - 1979 Riviera S-Type with the turbo 3.8 liter six. Red over red. Wish I still had it. A great example here provoking a great memory.
My father did car upholstery and headliners back during the late 80s and early 90s. The headliner decay is normal and happens even under ideal conditions. I can remember seeing tons of these back when they were still relatively new on the road. He had no shortage of work.
That dash was magic for a kid back then! I wondered often how they worked

My 1st car was a 1979 Riviera & the memories flood back upon seeing this one.
As much as i seek to have one again & know this generation inside & out, I would also experience unhealthy fear of driving it. It is too nice now for frequent road use.

My grandmother had one of these when I was younger. The best horn I've ever heard on a car. I can remember sitting in the backseat and playing with the reading lamps and the cigarette lighters.
We had a 1980 Riviera and it had an very comfortable ride, and was quiet as a church inside, and with no tranny hump to deal with, there was tons of seating toom inside. That big engine on a front wheel drive allowed it to track through snow like it was on rails.
That car deserves to be in a museum it is that well preserved!

That generation of Riviera was a high point for the nameplate in sales and buyer acceptance. Many people who could afford the Cadillac Eldorado sister car bought the Riviera instead because of those beautiful curves in the design as opposed to the more squared off, angular Cadillac. What a treat!
80's Uniroyal Tigerpaws were the eelskins of the tire world, for any car with a v8.
Good luck getting traction in the rain, just spin one tire all day and go nowhere.
You could literally get stuck on an uphill entrance that had a fresh asphalt sealcoat.

I had Uniroyal Tigerpaws as the OEM tires, on my then new 1991 Chevy Silverado. Good street tires, until it rained or snowed, then they weren't very effective.
@@mikemullay5622 Yeah. On my 80 Olds 88, they were awful. The car had decent power, and you never wanted to pull out onto a wet road unless there was plenty of distance til the next car was on you. Spin Spin Spin.
Put a set of Goodrich T/A's on it and omgosh what a change! Actually became fun to rip it!
Traction was not an issue with those on this car, fwd with that v8 rectified that. The rwd cars were another story.
@@glennc.2183 RWD was my problem. Litterally got stuck pulling up to a drivethru because it was an uphill grade with smooth asphalt. They look at you funny when your annihilating a tire trying to pull up to the window!! XD

When I was 22, I sold cars for a Buick dealership. The Riviera’s were fun to sell. This is an interesting trim level. The Sport wheel was rare. There is one option that was available that this car doesn’t have that was available on the Riviera. IIRC, the Riviera was one of the first cars that was available with a Bose stereo. This one will be a neat one to watch on BaT
I have a set of those horns that I have not decided what vehicle in the fleet is going to receive them. I kept them off a 1990 Buick Park Avenue. Greatest car horns.

My parents had the Oldsmobile version the Toronado. It had the digital dash and plush seats. It would float over bumps. We loved that car.
I actually installed one of those 4 note horns on my Marauder. Stuck two 40 amp relays in to provide ample power to each pair. It sounds a little bit off since I cut the brackets short and one of the notes is old and mostly functions, but it is just as loud as the video seems to show. It's hilarious beeping it since it fits the car so well and its so distinctive.
This car rides nicer than it looks one of my favorite vehicles that I ever owned.

That is absolutely beautiful, if I had loads of money and a large property it would be a keeper for sure and maybe the odd mile here and there to get the feel of it from time to time, someone will be very lucky to own it.
One of my neighbors back in the 1990's had 1 of these and it was mint. I was a kid at the time, and I called it the "R" mobile cuz it has so many "R's" everywhere!

I had an ‘85 Lesabre “Collectors edition” same color, same interior color.
I MISS those comfy couch like seats.
Was a BEAUTIFUL car. Rode like a cloud (I had Moog overload springs and Monroe heavy duty gas shocks installed), handled well.
It was sluggish with an Olds 307 in comparison to my brothers 88 caprice with a 305 and even my 73 Century with a 350, but it drove nicely and actually got about 28mpg highway.
Brings back memories, my grandfather had a diesel one of these.
My mother had this car when I was a kid. Off white with the fake rag top. I remember when my dad brought it home for her. It was the dealers personal car and my dad asked him to sell it so he could surprise my mom. It was her absolute favorite car. She drove it everywhere and I think it had 300k miles when she finally got rid of it. If I had the money I would buy it for her right now. Thanks for sharing this one.
A beautiful car no doubt. I ordered a 1983 Riv from the dealer. Two years after 'I sold it, I bought an 85 Riv. I currently own a 1982 and another 1985. For the true purist, the rear bumper fillers were replaced and painted. They were fragile and under the best conditions cracked and finally went missing in pieces. I can tell that they are not factory original by the extra vertical seam on the two sides. It was a wise choice to replace them.
That Red Alpha he has is a good inexpensive start to a classic car.The Riv is a new car.
I had the 1984 Rivera Blue on Blue in this body style. It was the 1984 Olympic edition. It was my very first car. I haven’t watched this video yet.. not sure I can. I loved that car.

That is awesome to see a nice "regular car" kept like this. One of my friends inherited one very similar from their grandfather little higher maybe 14,000 miles. Never thought I'd see another 80's Riviera like that and this one beats it by a good 10,000 miles. In addition really optioned up auto ride, auto hvac has to be pretty rare like this.
The mid '60s Buick Rivieras were the best. Designed by Bill Mitchell, who also introduced frameless front door glass.
My first car: 1966 Riviera. Age 16, 1973. Frameless windows.
Second car: 1973 Monte Carlo. Age 18, 1975. Frameless windows.
Third car: 1978 Cadillac Seville. Age 21, purchased new in 1979. "FRAMED WINDOWS".
If you close the doors on a frameless window car with the window rolled up almost to the top, the weight of the glass will damage the mounting hardware inside the door. As you can see from the list of "GM" cars I have personally owned, I have owned both, frameless and framed. I prefer a framed window for it's durability. Also, on those years of Sevilles and Coupe de Villes, the frames added strength and classic looks.
p.s. Most recent car: 2012 Toyota Camry, new in 2013. "Framed windows".
My buddy's wife had an 1982 to 1986 Riviera that she had totaled after hitting a deer. Other than the color it looked identical. He then took two early fifties Ford f-100 pickups and made an extended cab, he put the Buick front wheel drive engine and front axle assembly in it. Then had a buddy of his who was a commercial welder make all the mounting and fitting and make a rear axle assembly for it. This was about 1988. The results was a school bus yellow Buick powered front wheel extended cab drive F100.
Gosh, what a masterpiece of design that Gm used to produce. Gorgeous!!

My very first car was a 1984 Cutlass Supreme with a 307 carbureted v8. It had bucket seats in the front automatic on the floor the radio was cassette tape but had a multi equalizer it was rear wheel drive. I was unaware that Buick made this car front wheel drive with and I stressed with a front differential that's pretty sick. And I was 16 and it was 1997

my parents had a 84 toronado ( pretty much the same car) that i ended up with in the early 90s. It had every option including moon roof the window sticker had an msrp of 20600. amazing traction in the snow and was really the best riding car i ever had. the seats were amazing. The 307 never gave a single issue...but the trans was another story. 18mpg most of the time.
As the Riviera is going up on the lift, you can see the 928 in the background. It almost seems to be saying:

Man, I have always had a soft spot for these 1980s American luxury cars. That "slab sided" dashboard just speaks to me somehow. So much fake wood! I had an '86 Oldsmobile Delta 88 for several years back in the day. Say what you will about GM's many flaws -- they can make a *QUIET* car. Overstuffed, plush seats - it's like driving your living room sofa down the highway. So comfortable. I know this is going to sell for far more than I can afford to pay. So amazing!
Oh they're absolutely nice cruising and highway cars. Marshmallow ride, seats like a sofa, very comfortable. I had several of them over the years. Just not particularly powerful and loaded with emissions controls that can cause problems.
@@CR7659 Indeed...cars from the mid-70s onward, into the late 80s belong to the "malaise era", of low power and quality issues.....not worth forking over the big bucks for cars from that era!

@@alexanderryan1176 I disagree that the malaise era ended in 1983. IMO, more like 1987-1988. The GM full size cars had plenty of problems in the mid-80s, for example, that finally smoothed out by late 80s.

I remember seeing cars like that as USED cars. I miss seeing those on the semi regular. You have a rare one of a kind brand new museum quality 1980s everybody car. And I LOVE all the 80s normal cars. All Euroasian Bob needs to do is find an Oldsmobile Toronado from 1985 in mint shape and he'll have a pair.
I understand why most people would choose not to drive it, but if I owned it, I would make it my daily driver, except in winter. Houses should be lived in, and cars were built to to be driven.
Yeah, what's the point if you can't enjoy it. Good insurance and Drive occasionally with kid gloves.

I’d daily drive this car. It was built to be driven and enjoyed, not sit in a garage or a museum. Of course I’d also take very good care of it.

Gm used that delco radio in everything back then. It really cheapened the higher level brands, olds buick and cadillac having the same exact radio as in a chevy and pontiac. Same hvac controls too in alot of cases.

My Riviera had the digital climate control like this one, and I swapped the instrument cluster for the factory digital cluster, and replaced that delco radio for a JVC El Kameleon cd player for a completely button free (except for the trip meter stalk) dashboard.
It was a huge improvement.

In my humble opinion that car is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
My grandmother had this same car when I was a kid (same color and everything). I can still smell the tree air freshener and hear Doris Day playing on the am radio when watching this video.
The story behind this must be equally amazing.
I've only ever lived in places where space is immensely expensive - housing a car like that for so long would be out of the question.
As interesting as it is it's also one of the silliest examples ever. Cheesy in every respect from horrible engine performance to cheap plastics, ill-fitting bumpers and those cheapo fake wire wheel hubcaps are the worst. All that could be part of the charm today naturally. The tasteless fake wood dash crap is certainly humorous.

The only drawback I see in that beautiful Riviera is it has one of those newfangled cassette player my previous one had an 8-track player . 🤭
Absolutely stunning! The only issue I have (or think about) with these ultra low mileage cars is what are the bushes like? They aren't being "used" or stressed and rubber deteriorates over time. At that mileage none will have been changed. (You did mention tyres and seals to be fair)
That's crazy, like it's been in a time capsule. I did see this car on hoovies garage
