Mom&Pop gamestores are awesome. I remember being low on cash in high school and going to get games like Chip&Dales for 1.50 with a friend and playing them.
Dude I totally feel you on that, I got an NES last year on Craigslist when I traded one of my laptops but since I had 2 laptops and wanted an NES for a long time I thought why not? My brothers always seem to think the PS3 is all that but in most cases I prefer my NES or Wii. I just bought Millipede for $6 on eBay since I remember the arcade version but other than that I've got some other really good/popular ones. NES & classics like Gameboy will always be top for me. Games today=Graphics..no fun
@bildo1977 Neat. Does the title screen look different in the original Famicom version? Or is it basically the same as the NES one, just with Stargate as the title rather than Defender II?
@NAJ0202 Let me amend that. The title screen music in Millipede and Defender II on the Famicom and NES are the same. However, in Defender II, the two tunes played when starting a new game and when beating a level were from the Punch-Out!! arcade game. However, there was a bit of an extension to the new game music in Defender II.
This port looks okay at best. I have played an arcade version of this game on EMU. I am not big into emulators. Games being played on the real systems is the way to go.
@PUTSAS I don't think Mark does many (or any) Japanese only console reviews. If it were on a compilation he may do it. AFAIK it's only been released for the Famicom and on pirate NES multi-carts. I own it on the later and enjoy playing it.
@NAJ0202 Actually, that music was first used in the Punch-Out!! arcade game when you lost. Arcade Punch-Out!! came out in 1984, while Millipede and Defender II came out in 1987 on the Famicom.
3:38 interesting enough mark the japanese nes the famicom does have a trackball controller by hori.I think the famicom version of millipede does make use of it.
@videogameobsession Actually, from what I've read about it on Wikipedia, this music actually originated with the Japanese version of Defender II for the Famicom, and then got reused for Punch-Out and Millipede.
@bildo1977 Yeah, but the Wikipedia article says that the Famicom version of Defender II was released in Japan in 1983, a year before even the arcade version of Punch-Out. Which would mean those music tracks originated with Defender II, rather than Punch-Out.
It's very Clear to me that this man is very happy & Comfortable in his life. So Comfortable, he can play computer games all the time & is happy to do that. Thats great. I Envy him. It's nice to see that some people are happy & enjoying life. I think I have so much I want to accomplish in life before I could possible sit down & be comfortable playing Computer Games. I Just feel like I'm wasting my time playing computer games. No offence.. After all.. I'd Love to be able to do that! Peace.
Mark did you realize that on three or four of the latest reviews you made the exact same comment about the game you were reviewing? "It's the risk vs. reward scoring. Easy to pick up and play, difficult to master." It doesn't make your reviews any less awesome though.
@InecomCompany, According to Wikipedia Quickshot made a trackball for the NES, I how ever, have never seen one in person, I would keep my eyes open on Ebay, cause it sounds like this would be the perfect match for you, with this game.
and I prefer computers for all games up to the PS2 =) I love my C64, atari and pc but you can't deny that innovative games on home computers are criminally overlooked in most gaming retrospectives.
@bazfanv2 dude i hear you,i still get out my analog TV set and play the N64 to play some turok or 007 just for fun when i feel nostalgic.I loved games back then and i still love them
gee... i wonder why the music in this game makes me want to play MIKE TYSON'S PUNCH-OUT!! ;) Seriously though, this, Defender, Joust, & MTPO!! all share the same music! It blows my mind.
@OmegaDeman Dead insects are eaten and digested by other insects and insect fecal matter is really great fungus growing material. This game just speeds the process up. :)
@Manofaction0 yes we do and its one of the hardest languages in the word and estonia is a country since 24 feb. 1918 before estonia was taken over by russia
I enjoy these games sometimes, but they're rather boring. But I rejuvenated my interest in these games by getting them on my Atari 7800. Having a game on a system that no one else has seems to make them more fun, and more rare and special.
This port is good because it's more difficult than the arcade version. 300K is a great score on the arcade version, but 150K on this port is at least as good.
Mark, would you be interested in Ken Griffey Jr Baseball for the SNES? I have a copy I'll send to you if you'd like. HUGE fan of the show, would love to me mentioned as a donation.
preference for better graphics wasn't born in the 32bit era. If graphics were reeeeaally that unnecessary you would have stuck with the atari 2600 or text adventures on home computers. Shouldn't they be the most hardcore gamey thing ever? No graphics at all, but then again retro gamers aren't aware of games on computers...
i still have this on nes i remember when i was little me and my dad used to play this a lot
I live for your NES and classic reviews!!!
One of my top ten NES shooters! Great Review
Mark probably prefers the Atari 7800 version of Millipede, since he often mentions that console for arcade style games in previous reviews.
Mark you are the fine wine of TH-cam Video game reviewers!
I love this game. XD
My sister and I used to play this all the time!!!
Mom&Pop gamestores are awesome. I remember being low on cash in high school and going to get games like Chip&Dales for 1.50 with a friend and playing them.
Yup, I bought this game at my retro game store. Hal America also released Joust on the NES as well!
millipede+nes advantage=awesome!
I was playing this when I was a kid in 5th Grade. and I felt a Centipede Crawling up my leg.
Coincedence? I think Not 8D
Ha, Centipede is probably my favorite arcade game :) And yes the track ball is good!
ZOMG yes!!!!! I was addicted to this as a child!
your are doing great job i whatch your updates one by one every day keep up like this .REGARDS FROM GREECE. :-)
There needs to be a Millipede for the Atari 7800.
Millipede kicks ass!
Dude I totally feel you on that, I got an NES last year on Craigslist when I traded one of my laptops but since I had 2 laptops and wanted an NES for a long time I thought why not? the NES Advantage seems like a good controller for this game :)
@bildo1977 Neat. Does the title screen look different in the original Famicom version? Or is it basically the same as the NES one, just with Stargate as the title rather than Defender II?
You are right Mark that´s one more awesome fun game that is simply priceless!
Hal America also released a port of Defender II(aka: Stargate) for the NES. I hope you review that one someday as well.
i love the sound of classic arcade beeps
I always thought of Millipede as a clone of Centipede rather than a sequel.
@NAJ0202 Let me amend that. The title screen music in Millipede and Defender II on the Famicom and NES are the same. However, in Defender II, the two tunes played when starting a new game and when beating a level were from the Punch-Out!! arcade game. @Bvon which game was that one? winning run or major league baseball?
Where do you get these VINTAGE games? My gamestop don't sell em...?
Epic gameplay from the master himself.
I love the sound effects.
This port looks okay at best. I have played an arcade version of this game on EMU. I am not big into emulators. Games being played on the real systems is the way to go.
Thumbs up for the Clockwork Orange reference!
@PUTSAS I don't think Mark does many (or any) Japanese only console reviews. If it were on a compilation he may do it. AFAIK it's only been released for the Famicom and on pirate NES multi-carts. I own it on the later and enjoy playing it.

lovin the classic reviews mark, but you need to review TEAM FORTRESS 2!!!!
@NAJ0202 I guess you're right. I confirmed it by loading Star Gate on Nestopia. It said "COPYRIGHT 1983 ATARI" on the title screen.
3:38 interesting enough mark the japanese nes the famicom does have a trackball controller by hori.I think the famicom version of millipede does make use of it.
i used to play this on Colecovision. Its one of the first games i got good at. That and Mr. Do.
is their a track ball for the wii?
One of my fave retro games.
@SlasherMiniFilms There's a Centipede for the Atari 7800, but a Mllipede doesn't exist for it...unless it's homebrew or an unreleased prototype.
awesome i love milipede and centipede
@videogameobsession Actually, from what I've read about it on Wikipedia, this music actually originated with the Japanese version of Defender II for the Famicom, and then got reused for Punch-Out and Millipede.
Where do u get your old systems?
@bildo1977 Yeah, but the Wikipedia article says that the Famicom version of Defender II was released in Japan in 1983, a year before even the arcade version of Punch-Out. Which would mean those music tracks originated with Defender II, rather than Punch-Out.

@NAJ0202 Nintendo and Hal Labs were tight even back in the Famicom days.
Mark did you realize that on three or four of the latest reviews you made the exact same comment about the game you were reviewing?
"It's the risk vs. reward scoring. Easy to pick up and play, difficult to master."
It doesn't make your reviews any less awesome though.
It sounds a little like a casino slot machine area.
So why does dead millipede parts turn to shrooms?
@InecomCompany, According to Wikipedia Quickshot made a trackball for the NES, I how ever, have never seen one in person, I would keep my eyes open on Ebay, cause it sounds like this would be the perfect match for you, with this game.

Question: If you're controlling a ship in the game, why is there a FREAKING ARCHER on the cartridge?
Millipede OST now available on iTunes! =)
greetings from germany!
There are DDT capsules in the game?
That is so wrong that it's awesome!
Damian's Dinner Time!

@bazfanv2 dude i hear you,i still get out my analog TV set and play the N64 to play some turok or 007 just for fun when i feel nostalgic.I loved games back then and i still love them

Epic Game. :D and funny review. xD
gee... i wonder why the music in this game makes me want to play MIKE TYSON'S PUNCH-OUT!! ;) Seriously though, this, Defender, Joust, & MTPO!! all share the same music! It blows my mind.
clockwork orange reference niceeee
Millipede! It's like Centipede, times 10.
My grandma Betty was a huge centipede player.
OH MY GODD SPYHUNTER I LOVE THAT GAME DUDE WOOOOW
@Bittergamer1886 It's been a while since you made an NES review, let alone a classic one.

@freidian but mark isnt about popularity..he plays any game and reviews it, regardless of who plays it
still one of my fav games .. a sequel that was better than the original

I enjoy these games sometimes, but they're rather boring. But I rejuvenated my interest in these games by getting them on my Atari 7800. Having a game on a system that no one else has seems to make them more fun, and more rare and special.

@elmerio everyone does know centipede, its one of the most popular games on the nes
I... never even knew this existed (!!!)
@Bvon
Super awesome game!!! It's better played with a friend.
Mark, would you be interested in Ken Griffey Jr Baseball for the SNES? I have a copy I'll send to you if you'd like.
HUGE fan of the show, would love to me mentioned as a donation.
@Bvon
Super awesome game!!!
nice graphics
I like this game.
I got 3 NES's, 4 controllers, about 45 games, 2 zappers and a SNES all for $5
This fellow should do a review a Vectorman 2 and Columns. Natch.
@runescrule ma ei saanud mitte sittagi aru..
@DilbertHernandez He's exaggerating. He probably forgot to add 0 to the 5 in the price. hehe
Extreme gardening!
Doesn’t look bad but the sound is harsh on the ears.
2:15, PWN'ED!
i co-op this game with my dad
this game gives me a fucking heart attack xDD i love it!!!
Bring it to the Vectrex.
To think, I actually have an Atari Trac-Ball in front of me. If it was Genny, it would work. (Go figure.)
@LukeK79 all his music is custom
by around 3:00. that looks hard as crap...
I own the arcade machine!
@KilleRotom I dont have a Xbox 360

This game sounds like a casino lol.
@VicGeorge2K6 There is....
@freidian Welcome to the majority of Video game reviewers.
@elmerion At one point, every gamer did
Millipede 2840!
You have to love how he talks about centipede like everybody knew that game
