Please write a book. You are such an excellent teacher. I feel that inline skating has become an art in its own right, and if anyone can give voice to that in the semi-permanent form of a book, it’s you.
Hi Shaun I can do push push but not touch touch crossovers inline my old ankles ache bit been window cleaner 40years I can do few crossovers actually backwards better than forwards my one leg glide better when cruising like bill says practice staaaay looooow 😂any exercises can help u think thanks Shaun great videos 😊Steve U.K. ps can do toe rolls like Asha U.K. says
A week ago I could not crossover in the grass, I fell without moving ! Yesterday I was back on my big wheels skates after some visits to the skatepark, and I instantly made my first crossovers without trying ! Crazy how it just came to me with general practice ! And you are right, it is a LOT of fun ! Can't wait to backward crossover, hockey stop and all... My cool blading journey is only beginning !
Loved this step-by-step explanation both of what is happening during the crossover and of how to practice it progressively! It's an amazing feeling when those crossovers begin to feel natural.
Thanks for the timely lesson on crossovers. And thank you for the Namaste T-shirt and flow beanie that my partner got from you for my birthday, I’m wearing it with pride here in Glasgow, Scotland. Namaste 🙏🏼
Been fascinated with roller blading for very very long time indeed. now touching 54 I have ordered frx’s should be here tomorrow. Your videos are a blessing for me and I can’t wait to get rollerblading.
Thank you very much. I am a simple guy from eastern Europe who is trying to correct his mistakes and at the same time teach his wife, for all these lessons that you have on the channel. my English is bad. But I was able to understand everything you were talking about. This applies not only to Crossover, but also to Ride stairs, 360, balancing, etc.
I've been watching several videos to try to improve my skating (I'm a beginner, I practically only go forward comfortably), all the videos I've seen so far, in Portuguese (my native language) or even in English, haven't helped me much. I try to get some tips from more advanced friends too, but they do little to help someone who is rusty like me (I'm starting to learn at the age of 44, after a life of sedentary lifestyle). I have to say that I have never seen anyone with teaching as simple, but as good as yours. After watching some of your videos, I was able to do some workouts and do things that I thought I would never be able to do. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge in such a clear and educational way.
Genius! I don't speak English, but I understand you perfectly! Your way of explaining the exercises is the best I've found on TH-cam. Hugs from Uruguay!
Thanks so much for this video. 🥰 Im not even an inline skater. I was desperately trying to learn crossover technique on quads and no quads skater’s explanation was helping me but then I came across your video! Your inline technique helped me learn crossover on quads within 1 hour of practicing 🥰. Your breakdown and visual was simple and didn’t give me a migraine. You’ve got a fan for life!
I am so glad that, you two did this video. At the moment I train crossovers. The half of my sessions are skating for fun and the other is train some new stuff. Now I at something to my training list. Thanks for this amazing video and please keep up the great work, you both are great inspirations.
Thank you thank you thank you! I've been trying to teach my kids how to do the crossovers the last few weeks and these exercises nail it! Can't wait to take them to the rink next Saturday! Thanks Sean and Alex! (Please backwards crossovers soon! 🙏)
Thanks for the lesson, when you show and explain in the video it looks so easy, I've been trying to get myself to learn how to use the cross-over technique for a while now. Unlike other influencers online, you show clearly and slowly so it's easier for me to absorb. Now i hope that your lesson has given me more meat on my legs, so me and my daughter are going out in the sun to give it a try.. Thanks and respekt!
thanks for these tutorials! it’s really huge boon to someone trying to get back into in-line skating as an adult after never learning proper technique as a child
I am a skier who has taken up skating to keep my feet active and balance. The language you use for edges, corresponding edge angles, angulation of hips etc is similar to skiing. Cant wait to try the front crossover today.
Man! i hope you know how helpful your videos are! I'm new into roller skating, i've learned a lot from your backward skating video (masterpice) and i'm now learning crossovers thanks to you again ^^ you are an awesome teacher!
Hi.I recently transferred from quads to inlines.I used to roller skate in 70s.I’m 60 now and find haven’t got strength I had as been window cleaner nearly 40 years.I just started doing crossovers again on quads.I tend to drag feet a bit .your practice for inlines looks worth trying.you do need stronger ankles for inlines I find.thanks for videos your a pleasure to watch 😊
Agree, I do only crossover after the apex of the corner because 4x90 creates more speed and need more space. On 4x80 I can start the crossover earlier, the speed gained and the space needed will be less.
Thank you for your great explanation and understanding. I thought I already had learned cross overs from watching other tutorials until you explained the speed skating reference and sprints. I'll definitely try these out.
thanks for this! i like your tutorials. they're very beginner friendly the way you explain the drills + progression + being very specific about which edges to be on and such.
Shaun you are such an excellent teacher. Thank you for these videos. I really have been working on my weak side cross overs lately and this helped a ton breaking it all down.
Just watched your backwards video and now this beauty drops! Got my frx80's on waiting list at Thuro Boston and been getting back up to speed on my ice skates. I'm psyched for this spring/summer 2022!
This is the best video on cross overs, with so many progressions! I'm gonna try them asap and hopefully improve this very fun - but tricky for me - move!
Hey Shawn, massive fan.You are a brilliant instructor compared anyone ive seen online I just bought a pair of SEBA High Light skates at ShopTask In Toronto . Im just getting into inline skating from ice. Im learning a lot from your videos. I wish you had more beginner videos. Like on parallel skating or carving. Im going to order a FlowSkate sweater and t shirt son. Namaste!
I performed my first cross over tonight. It’s the fear of falling that prevents me from trying. You mentioned an important point. The one knee needs to be bended outward slightly to make it easier to cross.
ive had a go this morning in undercover car park i go .i can do pushes around in circle but not easy to touch my other inside foot yet.keep practising 😀

May I add something to your great video, that bending the knees adequately is the secret behind good crossovers. I notice many make the mistake of trying to do crossovers with inadequate knee flexion, and the stuff in between the groin gets squashed in the process😅
Me and my daughter love your videos they have helped us a lot !! We are trying to get to grips going backwards and the transition if you have any tips 😂
Ma quanto sei bravo a pattinare e a spiegare le figure. Ti faccio una richiesta......puoi spiegare anche il back crossover?? Grazie e bravissimo !!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love it if you could do short vid on the way Bill does his crossovers - I think there's a few key differences to what I see around, which is what you did so splendidly here.. I've been trying to implement it for a while now, and while it feels weird still, being so light on my feet and not really stepping across as much as in front of the other skate, I'm seeing it fitting so much better into city skating in particular, especially for short bursts generating power (regular crossovers are not great for this because you'll simply turn to fast for it to be helpful on a tight path for example).. The way he does sprints is something I've been trying to unlock as well, and the two are really connected I feel - what he does really looks more like running than skating when talking about crossovers and sprints, and I'd just like to hear your thoughts on it as well, because as everyone knows, you're the best at breaking down all this stuff.. 👍
On sprints, recover explosively, back foot coming forward, too: quick starts are about chops, not strides. Keep at it! If you're not working on getting faster, you're working on getting slower.
I really enjoy your teaching style in these tutorials! Any tips for the weak leg? I'm pretty comfortable going round the circle one way, but it's almost impossible the other way!
At least for me I find that on my dominant leg I trust the outside edge more so I'll put my bodyweight out farther. I'm guessing that on your weak side you don't trust being on the outside edge. To fix it practice gliding on your outside edge on one foot. If you are on your right foot you should start to turn to the right. If you are on your left foot you will turn to your left. Once you are comfortable with that look up hockey powerskating outside edge drills or figure skating cross rolls and practice those on inline skates. You'll be a crossover master before you know it.
to keep things balance I like to practice crossover doing an 8-figure pattern, so both sides are worked on. by the way, you don´t have a weak leg/side. You have a good one and a better one ;)
It's crazy how much easy it is one way than the other. But I'm making progress! I can go the other way now, though it ain't pretty! I can actually get some figure 8s going. I've been doing outside edge practice, and playing around with inside shoulder back, I notice that it also pulls back my hip a bit which helps. But a lot of cross overs without moving forward and trying to glide on the outside edge, as well as doing the cross over slowly and holding as long as I can.
Please write a book. You are such an excellent teacher. I feel that inline skating has become an art in its own right, and if anyone can give voice to that in the semi-permanent form of a book, it’s you.
Watching a lot of skating videos recently, gotta say, you have some quality lessons. Also, your energy and vibe is great. More videos! Keep going!

Boy I love the way you break this down SO. MUCH. Maybe there's hope for my right crossovers yet.

What a great teacher he is, very calm and confident.
just got a pair of skates this week after two decades of not skating. honestly, nailing this would fix so many issues i have lol
thanks for these tutorials! it’s really huge boon to someone trying to get back into in-line skating as an adult after never learning proper technique as a child
Same!! I had to re-learn how to turn properly with my leading foot and spin again!
You’re a national treasure, my friend!!
Your teaching is so amazing. I’m so grateful every time I watch one of your instructional videos. Thank you so much for all you share.

Absolutely awesome. It’s cool you also mentioned Stoppard - I noticed but didn’t realised how he actually used cross overs in speeding up. Brilliant.
I really feel like I comprehended what you were teaching. Thank you for being so thorough!
Man! i hope you know how helpful your videos are!
I'm new into roller skating, i've learned a lot from your backward skating video (masterpice) and i'm now learning crossovers thanks to you again ^^

Thank you very much for the content. Very worthwhile to watch to continue practicing.
Video is so good that even sitting in front of my computer I have the feeling I 'm able to do crossovers!

Great to see. I'm only 5'4" on 4x90 and crossing over with these wheels is a task

I really look forward to this day, God bless you and Alex
Thanks a lot. Your explanation is perfect. Thanks. Marcos, from Buenos Aires Argentina.

can you do a video on how to properly turn, I had a hard time turning and usually my opposite foot is in the front instead.
