Sines big day at Daunt and offshore F9 inc crash landing

  • If you fancy seeing what it’s like aboard during some rough weather sea trials, here’s a pretty cool little video of our Interceptor 48 pilot built for the Port of Sines. Some really great Arial drone footage and interesting POV (Point of view) with narration from aboard her in 5-6m seas and in 50kt winds 25 miles offshore.
How difficult is to land a drone back down on the boat in 5-6m swells and 45-50kt wind gusts? Pretty damn difficult as it turns out! Sometimes we fail as you’ll see at the end.

I would really like to see an interview with Frank telling us his background and where he learned to handle a boat.

    • @ByronWalter

Absolutely. And how would you like to be a brand-new drone, only to discover a guy named 'Frank' is your new owner.
Also noted is that the new boat gets extra ballast from their massive cojones.

Beautiful, I like how she has glass in the roof to see any fishes caught in the greenies. Fantastic idea 👍

I always felt 48' was a sweet spot. This boat proves it. The performance is absolutely stellar.

I couldn't agree more!!! 40-48ft is my favorite yacht size.

🚫 Not me, I find that the perfect size boat for dealing with harsh coastal breakers like ^this, is a 12 feet long, aluminum, flat bottom bass boat with a short shaft Minn Kota 1.5hp electric motor. I like to position the boat so that the waves are breaking right on top of my 12' bass boat, so as to fill it with water, which adds weight to it, making it less easy for huge waves to fling it around like a butterfly in a tornado. 😁

@HighlanderNorth1 I have a chipped front tooth from a 14' SmokerCraft! It was the first time a roller removed a deck from under me. I think I was seven. Good times.

Frank wakes up in the morning looks out the window and sees 45-50 Kt winds and 5-6 metre waves. Says to wife, oh darling, looks like a lovely day for a spot of boating. Wife says, yes dear, don't forget to pack the sunscreen and you deck shoes. I'd love to get a ride in one of these boats on a calm day, you know around 30-35 knots.

I did that for 24 years as the pilot boat captain with the Hawaii Harbor Pilots. I don’t miss that part of our job.
Especially at zero dark thirty and you have to go out there when it’s blowing stink and high waves are going over your cab and you’re coming up to a 900’ vessel. it’s your shift you gotta do it. Stay cool your focus is to get that pilot on or off that ship in the safest way you know how.
1991 Hurricane Iniki rolled into our islands at a category 4 force. We were tasked with getting 5 giant ships out of our harbor when the storm it. I was on duty that day facing 20’ seas at the mouth of our harbor.
A giant 20’ wave hit me port side and flipped the pilot boat over and about 5 seconds later the boat rolled back up again with both cat motors still running. The was not designed to do that.
That was a total miracle. I should have been the first fatality of that storm. The first statistic. God had his eye on me. I’ve faced many a storm in my service to the pilots. I’ve had some injuries but survived my career. And retired.
Now when I see this stuff on videos I know that us boat operators around the world are a special breed. All guts, big balls and nerves of steal.

If it capsizes, it returns the original position. It is completely sealed. No water is going inside. The only possible way, you need to be drafted to a rocky shore. In that case, you are in big trouble.
