    Just defeats the whole reason I bought the camera...

      @DigitalRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, you can take the GA-2 off and just use it in "extreme" cases to avoid dusty places. I currently shoot w/o adapter while in the city and put it on during my longer trips where the camera is exposed to more harsh environment.

    I use the nisi filter adapter + filter and have put glue tape around them so minimizing a lot the entrance of dust. Before that, I had got unremovable dust at 4,000 shots.

    Do people mainly get the dust issue from having it in their pocket/bag? Or just from holding it in their hand taking pics? Because I have the normal lens cap and GC-12 leather bag so I don't see how it could still get in. Which it hasn't...yet.

  • @stevemuzak8526

    I use GA-2 Adapter not only as dust protection but as filter mouth. It's amazing. It's a must buy in my opinion.

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure. I`m also more confidend with GA-2 on as I don`t worry about hitting or scrathing the lens on some surface by accident!

    I have the filter adapter with filter, lens cap and gaffa taped the mic holes on front. Don’t care about the size as it’s still tiny. So far so good and easy to clean

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree - GA adapter doesn`t bother me at all with additional size as it`s still tiny and i`m less worried about the physical damage to the lens.

    • @powderedtoastman3093

      @@DigitalRetro Exactly. And having to clean that lens would be a pain in the ass to do it properly. Even with pec pads and eclipse fluid it would be a nightmare. Cleaning a 49mm filter is so much easier. I’d never put that type of camera in a pocket anyway as those blades covering the lens would get a bang and get ruined.

    Thank for this video and more general for all videos about GR 3x! Which UV Filter do you think fits better here: Marumi Fit+Slim or Marumi EXUS? Have you had a chance to use NiSi adapter as well? If so, which one (GA-2 vs. NiSi) would you recommend? Thanks!

  • @AdrianFilipiak
    @AdrianFilipiak 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I've heard that dust go to the sensor through microphone holes. Moreover that GA adapters cannot be sealed because extended lens work like a needle makes unwanted pressure. Hope your GR won't get dust. Take care ✌️

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting. The mic holes can suck up dust indeed, but the front lens tube is definitely the main suspect and as you noted it makes some pressure when retracting. Still I always vacuum the front side, so I guess I suck up the dust from mic holes as well 😅 Cheers friend!

    With that accessory makes the gr in to m43 mirrorless size category the epl series from olympus for example with 20mm f1.7 lens

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well yeah it increases the size, but still it`s an APS-C, and you can just take it off with one click and use it in particular cases and dustier environments.

      @ekkanofiqandriyana7325 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DigitalRetro yes you are completely right about how good GR is, i really love the compactness of it but intrigued to get one because of all issues that i read all over the internet about this camera the stuck shutter and lens for example, and again f1.7 in m43 vs f2.8 in apsc is not much difference because most of m43 lenses you can get very sharp images in widest aperture.
      Apologies for very not good English

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ekkanofiqandriyana7325 Your English is really good and fully understandable! I agree - especially the 1.7 lens for M43 are exremely good and compact. My friend shoots the OMD-EM10III with 45 1.8 and I`m always blown away with his shots. I often considered the M43 system(especially I love their retro design), but the GRIIIx was a win for me as an everyday cam because I don`t change lenses very often(i basically always use 35mm lens) and I really like the images from Ricoh`s sensor + I get the RAW developer in camera.

    when travelling how do you carry the camera with the ga-2? there's no ricoh cases that will fit the griiix with ga2 adapter. are there any you can recommend?

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey - I usually wear it with a strap while walking around and since I prefer sling bags I just carry it with my peak design 10l sling(i had the 6l too and it was also cool for small setups like Ricoh + A7ii)

    • @Filippo-Parisi
      @Filippo-Parisi ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I won't lose pockeability at all and bought the beautiful (and very useful to prevent dust) original lather Ricoh Case GC-12 for my GR III and ising the GC-11 that come with GR IIIx Urban Edition. Just paying attention, turning it off and putting inside the case when it's not used

  • @mistergiovanni7183
    @mistergiovanni7183 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The best way to avoid the problem is not to buy that camera. The dust keeper attachment is a pain in the butt and kills the pocket sense of the camera. I prefer to buy any other compact that shows me the sensor.

    Will the GA-1 adapter create a vignette in the images? Someone on TH-cam says it does.

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well I`m not sure about the GA-1 as it`s meant for 18mm GR`s which is wider - but my GA-2 doesnt give any visible vigneting as the lens stops basically milimeter from the filter glass. The issue that some TH-camrs had might be also affected by lower quality UV filters used with GA-1.

    • @Edwin_Lam
      @Edwin_Lam ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DigitalRetro I really want to try the Ricoh GR iii, but the dust issue really holds me back. I also believe it's a great camera as there aren't many available on the 2nd-hand market.

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Edwin_Lam to be honest I had the GRII and I used it without any protection for about a year and didn’t notice the dust issue since I did regular vacuuming of the lens tubus each week - it’s tricky to clean the lens itself as it’s really small but some say Lenspen is a good choice to do it.

      @@DigitalRetro I've finally got my hands on one. Do you know if it overheats after like 15 mins of use? Is this normal? It gets warmer and warmer.

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Edwin_Lam I notcied mine getting pretty warm while in Video mode and in longer photo taking - on the right side under the thumb - probably the heat from battery and memory card(it can get pretty hot while writing data). But unless you get an overheating message I guess it`s nothing to worry about.

    E funzionale ma si perde la bellezza di averla sempre con se in tasca è un controsenso a questa fotocamera. Io per questo motivo ho preso la fuji xt30 II con obbiettivo pankake 27mm non è tascabile ma è comunque molto piccola e mi sta nel marsupio. Purtroppo la ricoh ha questo grave difetto

    • @DigitalRetro
      @DigitalRetro  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are right, you loose much portability, but I still love the Ricoh rendering and even with the adapter it`s way smaller than XT30 with 27mm. Unfortunately I`m a "dust police" type of guy with my cameras, and i can`t help it 🙃
