Mike Emler designed this knife. The blade steel is AR-RPM9, Its a powder formed 9cr18mov based steel. Actually a pretty high preformance budget steel. Very fine grain, highly stainless, reasonable toughness for a stainless. Edge retention is serviceable and it can be kept sharp with simple strop. Edge retention is actually very close to 14c28n. Fine edge holding on cardboard is fairly low but working edge retention is pretty decent considering how low cost the steel is and how long you can keep an edge going with just a strop. If you like 14c28n then you will like rpm9 they sharpen very much the same, they preform very much the same (14c is absolutely tougher and more edge stable) edge retention wise and both resist corrosion extremely well. It's also a very easy steel to sharpen because of the fine grain structure of the steel. A nice 240 to 600g edge finish is ideal.. basswood or leather with some 5um diamond compound on it and you can pretty much keep the edge shaving sharp indefinitely unless you chip or roll the apex. Believe it or not a simple piece of denim is a great strop for this steel as well.
I have a fondness for neck knives in general. This one looks like a solid pick and I don't have a Wharncliffe fixed blade. It looks like a handy sized little beastie. Another informative and entertaining video!
Nice knife. I have a CKRT Spew. Nice little warncliff. I find that blade shape handy. The Spew is my favorite knife to clean palm sized panfish with. Don’t know what you call them, but I use a bead that has a spring loaded catch in them. It will hold the lanyard well enough, but will pull apart easily if you snag the lanyard on something. I don’t use a neck knife much, it’s illegal to conceal a fixed blade here and I don’t like the way they carry if worn openly. I like my blades close to my body and a neck knife open carry swings around too much for my liking.
Big fan of the wharncliffe. One of the most usefull blades out there. I am with you onthe open carry. I only wear it outdoors trudging and I don't hide my knives When in public. I carry on my belt or on a pocket clip. To be honest not sure about here in MN about concealed carry. Need to look into that. Thanks again for the support.
Yes George I do like it The lanyard you can change it no problem, you don’t need it too long. Nice colour for the sheath nice blade neat. I’m old school carbon for me, ideal for food prep, nice location is there any bears there ! The price is good too, oh send those Canadian geese over my neck of the woods ...... got some free Led for them lol take care
I agree with you on the D2. I like it myself. Can't see paying the prices they want for these "super" steels. I also agree with you on the getting old part. Me too. Have a good one and I'll try to refrain from any more comments
Lol. Getting old us not such a bad thing......I think. Please do comment. I like to hear back from people. Always interesting to see what people think 🤔. Thanks for the support. It's always welcome.
Cool blade! Might check local ordinance for concealed fixed blades. Every place is different. In KY you could have no problem with it. Gonna look at this company!
If I were to change the cord I'd definitely get a breakaway connection. I honestly can't think of anything grabbing it in the woods, but in an urban environment or working around machinery...A nightmare!
For safety I’d put a breakaway pop connector or a breakaway knot on the neck cord.
Oh yeah great tip thankyou. Did not think about that. Thanks for watching appriciated.stay safe
