    Hi everyone! We are really excited to share this with you guys! We LOVE vegan sushi and have made this video to show a bunch of different vegan sushi rolls!
    We show how we make:
    -Sushi Rice
    -Sushi Rice Seasoning
    -Vegan Eel Roll
    -Vegan Eel Sauce
    -Vegan Caterpillar Roll
    -Vegan California Roll
    -Vegan Philadelphia Roll
    -Vegan Sashimi
    -Vegan Mini Tuna Roll
    -Vegan Mini Salmon Roll
    -Vegan Salmon Nigiri
    -Vegan Tuna Nigiri
    -Vegan Wasabi Aioli
    -Vegan Sriracha Aioli
    What we forgot to add to the video!:
    *PANKO!
    -The Panko from Trader Joe's is vegan, cheap & delicious. We love to use this straight out the bag or lightly toast it with vegetable oil in a pan. We love to add this to the top of our creamier rolls, especially the California rolls. It adds an amazing texture & flavor element!!!
    *AVOCADO ROLL
    -Make a roll with a bunch of avocado in it and nothing else. This is honestly one of our favorite kinds of sushi and it's the easiest to make.
    Here's the link to the Sushi Recipes pdf because it was too big to fit in the description. This is a printable document:

    These meat substitutes are BRILLIANT ive never thought of poached tomato as a salmon replacement, nor roasted bell pepper as a tuna replacement, soon as I saw the mushroom I was like "roasted with oil salt and the SMALLEST amount of liquid smoke, and that would taste EXACTLY like eel!"

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Ben!!! Funny enough, orange bell pepper is also a great one for vegan salmon too!
      A touch of liquid smoke is a great idea!

    such a beautiful platter! it's been so very long since i've been able to enjoy vegan sushi and at least i can savor it with my eyes until i can gather the ingredients... but since i'm lazy and impatient, i'll probably eat it ''deconstructed''.
    very nicely filmed and a joy to watch. the bright colors of the ingredients and the finished product!
    thank you for a lovely diversion for a while and a mission to make this.

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jacres7233 We went through the same thing when we first went vegan! One of the best things to do is to take a firm tofu, pat it dry with paper towels, and then either marinate it with a yummy sauce & cook it, or cook it with a yummy sauce. We have a couple tofu recipes. Check out our Tofu Orange Chicken recipe, and our Tofu Kabob recipe. Both are super flavorful! And the tofu kabob one is super easy/simple.

    Enjoyed this and have a few other ideas. I am not a fan of siracha sauce but love wasabi (both the real stuff (ie the fresh wasabi) and the green coloured horseradish that we get in shops) so would substitute that in the various things. I would also add a smidge of it to the tuna rolls, salmon rolls, etc. But these looked so great. When I was a meat/fish eater, I hated eel but the mushroom eel rolls look amazing and I am looking forward to giving these a try! And I would add some black toasted sesame seeds to the inside out rolls where the rice is on the outside. Thank you for the great tutorial and the great ideas, so much work and so beautiful!

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for all your great ideas Shelley! I especially love the idea of using black sesame seeds! Will have to do that next time. We don't eat Sriracha either because it's not vegan, but we love garlic chili paste (that we used a lot in the video), have you tried it?! The organic Sriracha from sprouts is pretty good too. But yes you can definitely leave them all put and use only Wasabi :)
      Except for the "California rolls" maybe, you won't notice the garlic chili paste too much there. The mushroom "eel" roll is really a great experience because of the meaty texture from roasting the portobello mushrooms. Thank you for your kind comment 🙏 💜

    what can you use if you don't have kelp powder...?

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could try taking nori/roasted seaweed and cut it into tiny pieces and soak it in the marinade instead. Probably 1 sheet. Let me know how it works out! It should still have a similar enough flavor.

  • @mirroravis

    A couple tips that will help (anyone) . Slice the avocado a lot thinner. I would remove the peel to do this. Also, use a spoon to remove the seeds from the cucumber before you cut it. For the rice, they traditionally use a shallow, bamboo vessel and a rice paddle for seasoning the rice. I'd recommend something like a cookie sheet with edges (aka jelly roll pan) and maybe a wooden spatchula. For the vegan California roll, you might want to try pressing & draining the tofu, possibly baking it, and cutting it, not crumbling it. Apparently, it's considered a sin to crumble tofu (but I'm suggesting not crumbling it for texture). For cutting the sushi, have a damp rag on hand and wipe your knife with the rag before each cut. Do one swift stroke, no sawing. Use your sharpest knife. This will make cutting easier and prettier. You can also lightly toast the nori for a few seconds by putting it over your toaster briefly.

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good tips thank you! However I crumble the tofu and don't bake it because that is the texture I'm aiming for. Also I completely agree about the knife technique, I have just honestly not had a knife sharp enough where I can slice the sushi in one movement without it squishing.

    • @neginf9818
      @neginf9818 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've made this many times and the California roll would just not be the same, or even work, if the tofu was cut into pieces rather than crumbled. Just isn't the same, especially if it was baked!
      That would be interesting to toast the norm beforehand, I wonder what that would taste like in comparison!

    This looks amazing! Do the tomato and peppers actually taste like a vegan salmon / tuna or is it just for aesthetic reasons? Been looking for a vegan fish substitute for so long😭

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest they definitely don't taste the same, but we do think that the texture is quite similar, and the oil/kelp powder improve the flavor/taste to be more fishy. We prefer the vegan tomato salmon to the bell peppers. I would say, definitely try the tomato salmon because we do personally really like it.

    What is rice vinegar is it the rice water mixed with vinegar?

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rice vinegar is a type of vinegar made put of rice. You can find it in any Asian grocery stores, or the Asian (or "international") section of your grocery store, or online. It makes it taste more like traditional sushi, but if you can't find rice vinegar then you could substitute it with apple cider vinegar.

      Yes. If you can't find kelp powder, then you can take dry kelp, seaweed, or nori, and blend it up until it becomes a powder. Basically, anything that gives it the taste of the sea.

    What is vegan sugar?

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. So regular white sugar is almost always processed and refined with animal bone char. That's what they use to refine it and bleach it. So vegan sugar is any sugar that doesn't use that method. So organic sugar is always vegan, pure raw cane sugar is almost always (c&h brand says "pure cane sugar" but it's just bone processed white sugar, that's why you'd look out for the word "raw" if it's not organic or doesn't explicitly say "vegan" on it). The same goes with brown sugar. Brown sugar is just bone char processed white sugar that has molasses added to it. That's all brown sugar is... sugar with molasses added to it. So making sure that the brown sugar is organic would ensure its veganism. Sprouts and Whole Foods also have their own refined white sugar, but they explicitly state on the bags that they do not use animal bone char during the refinement process and theyre labeled "vegan". I hope that info all helps.

    Hi 👋 I’m loving the recipes and can’t wait to try!
    May I add a suggestion: maybe add music or talk? Hearing all the noises was so weird lol (I did watch this at 4am so that might be why) but like it just felt very unnatural I had to turn the sound off. I like that you type out the instructions but saying it as well will cut the awkwardness and also help the foodies who are blind and like listening to cooking videos!

      What?

    • @Chompchompyerded
      @Chompchompyerded 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheVeganTwins It's a Japanese saying, meaning more or less, even at it's worst it's still the best.
      Tai was a type of fish used in sushi which was extremely good in flavour. The fish was over fished and is no longer available in any significant quantity. It is internationally protected and is usually released if it is caught. Sometimes some unethical restaurants will say they have tai, but what they are actually serving you is either red snapper or orange roughy. Some people who what tai really was will call orange roughy or red snapper "tai" because they don't know what real tai was.
      Essentially what I was saying was, that sushi is going to be good no matter what. I hope that clarifies a bit, and adds a little bit to your knowledge of sushi that you didn't know before.

    Help me understand something please. Why do vegans make vegan meat, fish, cheese etc? If it looks the same and tastes the same why imitate that which you stand against. Why not make something different instead of calling it salmon or tuna or salami.

    • @TheVeganTwins
      @TheVeganTwins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's different for everyone. But for me, it's not imitating what we stand against. We stand against slaughtering and eating animals, but there is no animal products in this. Most vegans did not go vegan because they hated the taste of animal products, it's because they did not want to harm animals. New vegans usually miss the taste, and non-vegans are usually scared that they won't be able to live without the taste. So whatever can help someone to become vegan or eat more vegan food, but does not harm animals, in my opinion is a good thing. There are also all kinds of vegan food that does not "imitate" animal products. And there are also recipes (like this one) that do. Of course it may bother some people, and if so then they can always make a vegetable roll. Or they can make the exact same sushi as in this video, but just not call it "vegan fish". They can call it "spicy tofu roll", or "seaweed tomato roll"...etc. I believe that as long as no animals are being harmed, the name that we call a food doesn't matter. I hope that helps. 😊
