As someone born in Hamburg I always appreciate the perspective of foreiigners. Personally I noticed that I take this city for granted. Back in the day I studied together with people that were from smaller towns, but in a short time really dived into the nightlife. After a few months they knew more about the hip spots in Hamburg than I did. I just traveled from A to B and didn't pay as much attention.

The city is best known for its famous harbor area, the Port of Hamburg. In addition to being a major transportation hub, Hamburg has become one of Europe's most important cultural and commercial centers, as well as a major tourist destination.

Perhaps a bit weird as a tip, but if you have a longer stay in my town, you could visit one of the biggest cemeteries in the world, the Ohlsdorf Friedhof. It is an impressive graveyard but also a beautiful park. Walks for hours or days!

I’m heading here after spending 6 months in Berlin following my 1 year stay in Munich. And I can see that Hamburg is actually beautiful unlike Berlin with nothing but mostly concrete everywhere. I’d say Berlin was much more of the fun kinda place to spend summer in compared to boring, disappointing and terrible Munich which had nothing there whatsoever. Since I’m starting my new job in Hamburg I’m kinda excited as hopefully my last stop in Germany before I reunite with my family in Denmark for good. Thanks for the awesome video!!

Hamburg is my favourite City since I was a child, that is decades ago . I originated further south in the center of Germany , having Frankfurt /M not close but much closer than HH. But I have Relatives in the north of Germany. Year for year we visited for a week in a village, interrupted by a day travel Lübeck and / or Hamburg . The port was always awesome to look , the Harbour tours from the "He Lücht 's " ( engl . " He lies " ) , Boat tour captains with humour and the talent to mix their explanations with true facts and "alternative facts " . The Cargo ships in the late 70s and early 80s looked the differend to the now usual container vessels . The Zoo (Hagenbecks Tierpark ) in 1978 offered Elephant rides for a fee . There was a kind of six person seat on the back of the Elephant , it was a warm bluesky summer day in Hamburg, the park was verry well visted , and the ride was all through the park on the walkways between all the visitors . And there was a super spectacular playground I have never seen before . But when let drop the word "Hamburg" outside northern Germany , people reacted with saying the often grey weather , the " Kiez (St Pauli / Reeperbahn / Red light .) -Apropos , the vibe changed a lot , now its more a big party and drinking event , wth much more tourists . In 1985 ,it felt much more unsafe ,in the night and a notorious war between pimp gangs /connections with a number of victims.
When Hamburg started the Musical -era ( in 1986 with " cats" ) , the Reeperbahn gets a turnaround.
Since the millenium turn , the numbers of visitors and Hotels is constantly growing and is for many a dream to go there one day .- How times are changing.😉
Laura , someone wrote you looks german . I dont know. But if you would be born one generation before yours , I would say you reminds me on actor Mathew Brodderick , almost as his sister .
You have seen the whole world and many destinations , but repeat a Hamburg visit in a feww years.👍

In 1982 My Navy ship was supposed to make a port visit to Hamburg. We had to cancel because we had a back up electric generator go down with major problems. We needed everything running to make the transit like all ships have to. Big disappointment.

haha well that's not one I've heard before! My uncle once did an ancestry search on my dad's side of the family and many of our relatives came to the US from Switzerland (hence the German last name!) so maybe that's why!

Hi I just returned from a holiday to Hamburg as much as I enjoyed it I wouldn't be in a hurry to return, the city is full of graffiti, homeless , beggers , Altona is a dump and some parts of port stinks of sewage 🤮
