    1828 - founded Brahmo Samaj to purify and reform Hinduism
    Published Bengali translation of Vedas and principles of Upanishads
    Opposed idol worship, caste system and one god
    1829 - Lord William Bentinck banned Sati - women rights, against polygamy and child marriage, widow remarriage and inheritance rights
    Supported western education and started school in Calcutta
    Helped David Hare open Hindu College at Calcutta - later presidency college
    1825 - founded Vedanta college for western and indian learning
