  • Behringer Xenyx 2442fx mixing desk review. A great little desk with a huge number of audio routing options. 4 aux, 4 subgroups, direct outs, inserts and built in effects.
I go through various ways to set it up and take a look at various features on the desk.
This is the biggest desk from the Xenyx range and for the price it is amazing. I'm sure it's based on a very similar Mackie desk, which seems to be the case with a lot of Behringer desks, but it's still going strong after more than a decade.
The built in effects are a great addition. This saves having a separate external effects unit (which saves you some money) and due to the way you can route the aux send and returns, you can have a wet signal on the subs and a clean on the master or vice versa - if this means nothing to you, basically you can record without the effect but hear it when you record. This means that you record with the cleanest signal and the effect makes it more pleasing to the ears while recording it.
Note that there are also two headphone outputs on this desk.
This is a great mixing desk for any home studio so if you're looking for a desk for your recording studio, this would be a great choice

Great rundown. I only got mine a few weeks ago and Its one of those things that I bought in order to build a home studio but I’m kind of flying by the seat of my pants. Ive been very judicious with my purchases and I’m always very pleased to see that everyone who’s ever owned anything that I have has had experiences like this.

I had that desk for over 10 years. I does everything and does it really well. I used it for every studio setup and on so many live gigs - it did the PA, foldback monitors and sent a mix to the computer.
      Such a versatile desk

I was given one of these for free, along with 5 pa speakers, a peavy src 4026, and several amps and compensaters. I have no idea what I'm looking at but I'm excited to dive into the setup.

Fabulous Board... I've had mine for over a decade as well and it's always done the job...the onboard effects are pretty good as well.

Just got mine a few weeks ago for my home studio. Very impressed!! It’s one of the most massive upgrades I’ve made.

I couldn’t agree more. After getting my big Mackie Desk I sold it and regret that decision massively. I’ll get another one at some point.

Can you multitrack this in to a DAW? So record every channel individually for post processing?

is the direct outs are pre eq or post eq and effects? I want to connect this mixer to audio interface and record my sound with mixers eq and effect settings

So I can use 2 main speakers and also connect a monitor for a drummer for example, right?

    • @PherotoneStudios

Exactly. And if you run the drummer’s monitor from one of the aux outputs, you can use the aux knobs to give them their own mix

Hello I want the same mixer for facebook live stream with iphone. How do connect audio cable in our Church. Please help me

I’ve actually done this before for streaming and it’s not very simple. You’ll need an iPhone charge adapter to their headphone adapter (mini TRRS), then a mini TRRS (has 3 white rings round the end) splitter to two mini TRS (has two white rings round the end) sockets.
That gives you one socket for the audio going into your phone and one for the audio coming out of your phone.
For audio coming out of the phone, get a mini TRS to 2x jack leads. This will give a stereo input into 2 channels of your desk. Avoid XLR leads here or you can accidentally send phantom power into your phone and break it - I’ve done this more than once.
For the audio to your phone either get a mini TRS to 2xjack cables or TRS to 2x XLR cables, depending on where the audio from the desk is coming from. Probably easier to use the jack cable version of the lead and run it from the subgroups on the desk.
You could also run audio out of aux 1&2

David Gaspar basically you can use a padded output of the main into a TRRS into the phone, or you can use the TRRS on a send.
