    In a segment dominated by capable but often uninspiring competitors, the Volkswagen Passat stands out as a mid-size sedan with a uniquely German charm. Distinctive styling and road manners born of the autobahn give the Passat a level of panache not found in the typical family sedan.
    Welcome to our comprehensive Kelley Blue Book review of the Volkswagen Passat.
    With a near luxury-level interior, an attractive exterior and both sedan and wagon body styles, the Passat proves to be a fashionable and practical alternative to more mundane family sedans. For more new car reviews, interviews and automotive news visit www.kbb.com today.

    I love mine, even though I got it as a fifteen year old car... Still drives beautifully and the quality and comfort of the interior is second to none

    Yes I have driven the Jetta and the Golf (Rabbit). I liked them. They ware tide and agile but yet comfortable!
    But when I checked the cars reputation online, I saw lots of horror stories from previous owners! I decided not to buy a VW. Instead I bought second hand Infiniti, which is bean great car so far!

    I owned a 2009 Passat for 8 years, and the car reached its end a little too soon for me. I miss this car, bc it was a performer, but the repairs over the years were more memorable than the drive. The reliability has gotten a lot better since then, but the American Passat is very bland and boring. One day I hope VW will return to their niche and near-luxury persona that drew customers to it in the 2000s.

      WriteOn! I don’t think they ever will. The “entry luxury” market they once had died during the 2008 financial crises. Volvo moved upmarket, VW moved down otherwise they encroach on their Audi division

    @TerminaorXX VW is considered to be a mass market brand not an exclusive luxury brand but Volkswagen's luxury division (Audi) is considered to be a Luxury brand.

      After.Midnight.667 I'd say so, as long as premium gas and higher than normal repair costs don't scare you. I almost bought one but I hesitated and bought a boring Toyota.

    I have an older model I35! It was the last front wheel drive they built!
    Check out my profile I have some vids of my I35. Although it is 2002 it is put together very well. It is fully loaded (but no Navi though). V6, 255hp, 246 lbs.-ft. @ 4,400 rpm.... the engine is killer. They put that engine later in 2003 to the G35.

    • @charlesbannab2786
      @charlesbannab2786 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I have a 2007 VW Passat with 2.0T engine, and since I bought this car used 1 year ago, I noticed right away how it drinks quite a lot of gas and I don't drive it fast at all.. going to put Premium unleaded when I fill the tank next to see if that makes a positive difference on the fuel economy...

    • @randyjacobson5721

      Charles Bannab I know this is a year later but you are supposed to put 91 or even 93 octane in the 2.0t vw's

    • @85funnyguy
      @85funnyguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@charlesbannab2786 If you're not putting at least 91 in your passat, you won't have it long. It says it right on the gas cap. I live in nj and even I know that?

    The Pasat is a good car but for the money the Japanese cars are giving you more.
    Another problem is Passats poor reliability scores. This car is good for 50K miles... after that is will start giving you problems.
    There is no Passat, which will make 100K miles without at least one serious problem on it. The Accord and Camry will do 200K miles with minor problems...
    I love Pasats but, they just don't make sense to me!

      I owned a Camry of the same year and must say I did like the car. It had a 4 cylinder engine as well. One thing you did not mention was the timing chain. These start having issue at around 60,000 miles. And the Passat most certainly has a better over all quality when it comes down to interiors.
      I know people who have put over 200,000 miles on a Passat 4 cylinder turbo without any major issues.
      I did have a oil leak at 80,000 that required a new seal. Since that I have never had an issue and now my kids drive it and it is at 279,000 miles . Besides normal maintenance including replacing battery and tires and brakes , basically the same with all cars. I have never ever had an issue other than that one seal leaking.
      The 4 cylinder model has a better overall rating than the V6. Personally I drive the VW like a sedan and not a sports car. I have classic cars if I feel the need for speed. 67 Firebird and 68 Vette tend to fit my needs for a cars that goes really fast. Well 0 to 60 between gas stations. And thank god for the gas stations that are 4 miles apart here. Haha. I think if I am lucky I might get 12 miles to the gallon in these 60's gasaholics.
      The passat we own does pretty good on gas mileage as well. Getting just over 24 mph in the city. The highway is around 34 mpg. So I truly believe regular maintenance and drive these like a sedan and nor a sports car and you will do just fine.
      BTW. I do love the Toyota's and believe they are very nice alternatives to the VW. Just keep and eye on that timing chain.
