Got a set of Model D brushes from your store, not just because they are beautifully crafted brushes in the most wonderful presentation but also wanted to very much support the tutorial work you are doing here. Saving up for a Model S set now. Thanks so much for the informative and inspiring content!
I love that you openly experiment and share those vids rather than just oh look here's something tasty looking, I experiment alot and it nearly always leads to my best results!
Really liked what you said about the little positive feedback loops :) And what you said about mistakes - they can be frustrating at the time, but mistakes teach you massive lessons very quickly, and being forced to rectify them gives you more experience, and increases your confidence to try new and more ambitious things!
@@NegativeNezzy Guess it depends what you call warm or hot. What comes out of my hot water tap, which is 120F / 49C is what I call hot water. It's the perfect temperature to put spray cans in to warm up. This, by the way, is the temperature new hot water heaters max out at to prevent scalding. Warm water to me is down around 30-35C, which is far too low to be very useful, Good for a shower or washing hands, but not warm enough for paint.
I have a massive collection of old school GW models Empire, Chaos Warriors, Goblins, Beast Men and the biggest load of the exact old school skeletons from your last vid I’m really interested in picking up the contrast style of painting! I’m am going to need to start from scratch with paints and brushes. Your content has been a massive education and inspiration to picking the hobby back up after a long time out of it, slowly working through the back catalogue of videos, amazing! thank you 👍
My man, welcome back! I would recommend a Series D+ set, XXL Texture palette, and a Series S Size 3 (magical one size fits all brush) if you needed a comprehensive starter kit. Paint wise pick a favourite tutorial on a favourite mini and enjoy! Any more questions just let us know in another comment... replies get lost
Plasma video please! This guy turned out great, and that plasma coil is such a nice focal point. As for the terminator chapter - I’d love to see Minotaurs!
@@ArtisOpus I m about to try some plasma red / blue / green for my HH DA and I have a couple of fluo from vallejo offered by a friend so I would be more than happy by a tuto with them if that can help you to choose ^o^ - thank you for all your work !
Yes please , I would love to see a red plasma tutorial ..as for a chapter choice 🤔🤨 I think space wolves please . Such a great video Byron , I’ve been using your brushes and following your tutorials for the past few years and my painting has really come on . I love that you leave in your mistakes … it makes us lesser mortals feel a little better about our cock ups 😂 thanks again vik
Everything about the work you've did on the Deathwing Terminator's fantastic! Non-metallic details on some of the Plasma cannon high-lights has some classic style I like about. However the glow effect of the plasma coil's on the cannon itself is the most part that caught my eyes of interest. This part I would like to paint more of on the coils of plasmaguns. This is good, thank you Byron for this video.
What a great finish. I'll admit I was totally sceptical at the tea staining of the skeleton horde in the darker areas to begin with but the stippling and drybrushing really blended that out nicely. Loved all the bonus bits at the end too. Fair play on not giving up after the airbrush overspill. 👍
Got to have faith! It works so well, you could actually exchange word bearers for something lighter or add a little cream or bone, and the contrast may go down more subtley
@@ArtisOpus I would have never thought of WB as an undershade for a cream scheme but you can't argue with those results. PS if you ever take on the 90s Space Wolves scheme from WD I'd be over the moon. Never managed to replicate that pale blue grey blend.
A plasma video would be very useful, especially the using the contrast medium and white almost looked like you managed to use it like oil panel liner? And I’d like to see crimson fists please.
I was doing something similar with my termis, but instead of stampling, I went for dry brush. So it was black primer, grey dry brush, white dry brush, contrast, dry brush. End Results were more grim, high shadow and contrast akin to Darkest dungeon characters
Can you do a video on panting reptile skin please if you haven't done one already, I've got a elf on dragon from fantasy cult miniatures. It's an amazing miniature but it doesn't have scales so I have no idea on how to approach it. Help! Please 😅
I’m a big Imperial Fists fan, I’d like to see you do one of their terminators! Heck, even if it’s a throwback to a Huscarls paint scheme which is mostly black and very little yellow 😂😂
I just started watching the channel's videos and I wondered the same about the palette. He mentioned that it's just one of the texture palettes primed black and he's using it as a normal palette on the smooth parts (though to be honest the whole palette looked a little smooth so maybe its an older one). As for the pot, its a dampening pad. It's used to add moisture to the drybush so that the brush isn't too dry (brush clogging) or leaving a 'chalky' finish (think dried paint particles). (Sorry, I know this comment is a month old)
Late to the party here, but a horus heresy Imperial Fist Huscarl would be a super enjoyable watch. The yellow and black is inverted for first company, so black armor with yellow accents and pauldrons. Think itd be a nice one for getting some good depth painting black and blocking notorious colors like yellow.
It would be great to see a drybrush tutorial on yellow (like the Space Marine Conquests Apocalypse cover) rather than brown or orange, Imperial Fists and white scars would be interesting to see
Is the initial workflow black primer -> reference photo -> WB Red undercoat -> zenithal? I'll be doing all these steps with an airbrush, if it matters. Thanks for all the advice! ETA: definitely plasma video!
I was trying to work this out, although think it might be grey primer. I was planning to not use my airbrush and trying to work out how to do the red if there was a rattle can similar but i don't think so
Hey buddy, we use it *like* one, but you can't use it *as* one. Prime it chaos black - and then the flat sections (I use XXL, they're big) are your traditional palette section. Think more 🎨 than wet-palette :) store.artis-opus.com/collections/series-d-drybrushing
I actually use this for the bulk of my models now, but I use a thinned sepia wash rather than Contrast. Similar results, although of course you're a much better painter. :)
I really have an issue with dry brushing. It feels like my dry brush exists in two states: 1) too much paint. Every stroke basically paints a streak of color. 2) no paint at all. No matter how long I try no paint is coming off from the bristles. Tried both cheap makeup brushes and yours, and I can never make it work for edges. Heavy drybrush akazenithal - easy, that's just state #1. But as soon as it stops acting like a normal brush - it stops depositing any paint at all😮
Great job bro! Sometimes when I drybrush I end up taking previous layers of paint off the model, am I applying too much pressure? Also I just picked up some fluorescent paints so I'd love to see you bring those back into your tutorials 😁 Keep up the good work!
I have two questions. When do you choose to spray your highlights (like you did now) and when do you go for a drybrush? Like you do most of the time. If you use a spraycan from 45° from all angles. Won't the front and back look the same? Or is that what the drybrushing/stippling is for? PS: I just tried your flame video from a while back. Looks amazing, and that on the frist try from a beginner. Amazing tutorial.
Please do Crimson Fists - they are cool and classic (and I am totally not starting them so I could make good use of tips on their armour) P.S. Ffffffff
Might be! I often paint these minis on smaller bases than necessary as it helps access to the mini from below angles, it is really helpful for stippling especially
Orks count, right? I'd love to see what you'd do with Kharadron Overlords to make them super shiny but maybe give them a bit better contrast than they have in the box art
@@ArtisOpus whaaat are they on Instagram? I'm building mine still at the moment but a little stuck on paint scheme. I really want to see yours though 🤩
I gues he either airbrushed or he stipple on the base coat with a dry brush as per his tip shared in his drybrush ing video where he paints the terrain piece with a destroyed scout walker on its side. I stipple my base coats as I don't have an air brush it's so much faster than trying to paint on a base coat with a normal brush.
Nothing to be sorry about :). I lightly dusted chaos Black, and then hand basecoated (we have a stipple video on it, Large scenery tower on the thumbnail).
