Had their wives left, they would be in the same boat and wouldn't be judging as hard.

    I dated someone for a few years and he introduced me to his daughter about 6 months into it - we grew very close and when that relationship ended, I stayed in her life. I actually helped her with her college essay and went to her HS graduation last week. Since she's a teen, I felt comfortable keeping in contact. If she were much younger, like in elementary school, I probably would have had a clean break so it wasn't traumatizing for her.

      I’m wondering if your situation is different than it being a dude (w/ a girl). You sound like, you were a necessity, as if the mother wasn’t available to provide her with the guidance, a girl at that age desperately needs.
      Like Jess said there’s no need to be collecting fathers (& mothers). The new girlfriend maybe wasn’t what the child needed, because she established something more meaningful with you.

    • @91shawny
      @91shawny ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See this is where factors come into play, where the girls age mattered and if aNything you became a mentor to that girl, and sometimes (as long as you clear it with the father) it’s good to have someone like that in her corner and helps wonders.
      Not the same situation but my brother dated a woman for years, but she worked at the same job as him at the time and eventually I worked there as well, prior to that when I had to learn to drive, she was the one who would pick me up and take me and teach me how to drive and let me drive and I am forever grateful to her 14 years later, so much so that every year on Mother’s Day I give her a gift, so factors come into play but again as long as you have a mutual understanding with the parent, positive not blood related role models are a dime
      A dozen

      @@Everyoneisanartist776 i dated a woman with a 5 y/o for over a year. She was very affectionate which i did not like. Like trying to kiss me and wanted me to return the favor. Wanting me to hold her in my lap. All kinds of stuff. I even had a talk with my ex about teaching her daughter some boundaries not only with men but with people in general and my ex acted like i was insulting her and her daughter so she allowed her daughter to be as affectionate as she wanted towards me. I never liked it or wanted it. So i was forced to create my boundary out of not trying to be rude to the kid by stiff arming her away like i wanted to lol Like i said I had only been dating her mom a little over a year. Imo that level of comfortability is supposed to come with time and that was waaaaaay too soon for me. After we broke up I ran into my ex a year or two later and she told me her daughter still asked about me and if I'll be around. I felt bad we never had a bond but how could we if it didn't happen under appropriate conditions I'm comfortable with?
      On another note, it was some other things that made me question her motherhood and the environment my own child would be subject to if we had a kid and we didn't stay together. That played a major role in us splitting up among numerous other things things.
      Hope that gives you some insight on a man's perspective

Just as you should jump in and respect all family members when you're getting into it, when it ends you also lose the "package" you were a part of. Relationships come and go just as people do. Once the relationship is over, you must cut off all ties! It’s not fair to the one you are currently with. You need to focus and bring your attention and energy to your own relationship or potential family. A past relationship needs to be cut off period. Don’t matter if it is the child, mother, father, grandparents, siblings, you must cut all ties with that entire family and move on.

    • @KevinBrown-vw4nm

    • @geraldmorgan5359
      @geraldmorgan5359 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mr Kevin Brown, I actually was in a relationship with a single mother that had a boy. I was in his life from his age of 3 to 10 years of age. His mother would try to use him to gain or keep a relationship after we broken up. The family kept approaching mine. God brought me a wife, and this ex shows up at my parents home while I’m deployed to drop off gifts that I given her son years ago. Was weird and disrespectful. My wife didn’t appreciate that and I understand why. You can’t just bring your child around to my family anymore. It is over. You must cut them all off and move forward. Focus on what God has infront of you. Even if you are single, do not allow past relationships or children distract you. You have to protect yourself at the end of the day.

    • @geraldmorgan5359
      @geraldmorgan5359 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mr Kevin Brown, although it may be hard, but you must cut off contact for yourself. That child is a child and will be in a child’s place. That child is not your responsibility anymore. What if the mother is dating a guy who is dangerous and is not happy with your relationship with that child. Something to think about. What about your girlfriend, fiancé, or wife in the future? How would they feel? It’s disrespectful to her and you are holding on to a past that you do not need to be a part of. Break the relationship and pray that the child will have peace in life. The mother is responsible for that child’s well-being not you. If you care about that child, you will let him or her go. It’s unhealthy for both of you. It’s like holding on to a pet or something that doesn’t belong to you, and you can’t give that something the 100% care that something needs. But in order to do so, you just let it go so that something or someone can have that chance. Now wether he or she or whatever is ok, is not your concern.

    I was with a women off and on for 2 years. I did good with her son ( 4 year old), we did Dave and busters, air shows, and car shows, movies, etc. Whenever me and his mom would take breaks or whatever she said he used to asked about me, mind you he has an active father also. His mother is the godmother of my little cousin( my cousin wife’s best friend) and I’m the godfather, so this past birthday I showed up with my new girl and saw my ex and her son, her son ran up calling my name and gave me a hug, my new girl asked who is he, and it was very awkward trying to explain the situation.
    I believe this is one of the rare times, keeping a decent relationship with someone after a breakup is cool, being that we will continue to bump into each other for years to come.

    That's beautiful that he made a bond with the kid. I don't believe if it is a real bond, that it could be broken. So as long as the child wants to contact the ex and its a healthy one, then allow that child to continue the relationship. Absolutely set boundaries, but it takes a village to raise a child. Being a child of a single parent home, it's not fair that just because you broke up, I have to not be cool with a Father figure. My son was heart broken when I stopped dating an ex, but I realized he wasn't going to be a good influence on him in the future. So I don't allow him to still have a relationship with him, but if he was, I would. The child's mental health and development is the only concern.

    Facts i love this conversation but there is situations when a child who is adult is causing problems ! Cuz they dont like the wife/girlfriend i think setting boundaries is really a great thing to do.

    You shouldn’t bring everyone around your child. But if you’ve been dating for a year you should definitely have a relationship with the child.

    I can understand the bond a person can have with a kid i definitely think it changes if you not with their mom/dad anymore but I don’t think it would bother me as much as it would if he still has a bond w/ the actual ex
