I would never have believed this works as well as it does. Trained my 5 year old son in 30mins, then my 6 year old niece, then my 4 year old son, then my 5 year old niece. I’m like the go to guy for bike training now. I’d tell anyone about this video, it’s fantastic!
Great instructions and tips. My 8 year old was scared to learn and I had been putting it off for a while. Within 40 minutes he was riding and peddling on his own. Fantastic, there's no stopping him now. Thanks for posting this video❤.
After a very difficult first day teaching my 7 year old (on grass and holding on for him), I felt he would never learn. After watching this and using your tips and using an athletics track, on day two - it’s as if he’s been riding for years! Within 10 minutes he was off independently, thank you so much for making this!
This is LEGIT! I did this with my 5yr old son yesterday, and he was riding by himself after 2 15min sessions. Today he biked a half mile to our local park without stopping. He had been riding a balance bike for about 2 years and had only rode with training wheels a few times.
OMG i never commented before on video, but this time i couldn’t stay silent. This video is made my daughter learn a bike in just 15 minutes, while before she never had any courage to do so.. thank you so much to you 🎉
Definitely not trying to one-up the previous comment, but I taught my seven year old in about 5-10 minutes with this method today... EXCELLENT advice. Thank you very much!
Amazing tips, helped me to teach my 8 years old daughter to ride a bike within 3 hours today. From not being able to keep her ballance for a second to being able to ride on her own for around 1 minute. Obviously a lot of practice is still needed, but I didn't expect that within 3 hours I would be able to let her go and see her ride on her own. Thanks a lot! ❤
It worked for my son 🎉 Thank you so much for this. The hard part was getting him to pedal instead of looking down at the pedal. After awhile they get comfortable and forget you are not holding them under the arms and the rest in history. Felt real good accomplishing this.
my girlfriends dad was never around, so at 15 years old shes learning from me. it’s sad but i’m willing to teach her cause i ride BMXes on street so im glad to give her that aspect of childhood.
Thank you! Thank you! I did this today. I helped mu daughter to ride the bike and did it! She is now riding her bike. Thanks to your wonderful video. One million thanks to you.
I fully agree, no training wheels! My grandson found balance and braking by himself and managed at the age of 2 yrs. At the same time he learned pedalling on a small three wheeled tractor. After 4 months he gradulated to pedalbiking in 30 minutes.
Thank you for this amazing video. My 7 year old has a low risk appetite and resisted learning how to ride a bike until now. I followed the tips in this video and it's like magic. Within about 30 mins he was up and riding. Thanks again.
Taught our 7 year old using tips from this video. She learnt in no time. It was 2 days over 2 weekends and away she goes! Less than 2 hours max and that was that. Thank you for making this video available for us parents.
I learned to ride about 5 y old. My dad pushed the bike to get going, i started to gain speed in gently sloping farm road, didnt know how to brake but the speed was already slowing so I just falled offed. Fast forward 30 something years the exhilarating feeling is there and still learning new things about riding your bike.
Great instructions. My 5 year old boy learnt within less than an hour. This video really helped because i initially thought id have to hold the bike instead of his underarms. Thank god for this video
Thank you for this. My little boy struggles with co-ordination and this really helped. He's just managed a few meters independently on the first session. I had been holding the seat and this method makes so much more sense for rider and helper! I had ordered stabilisers but I'm sure by the time they arrive he won't be needing them!
Used this video with my 5 year old this week (February half term). Absolutely brilliant tips for teaching and his confidence grew quickly. I highly recommend this training video, thank you for posting!
Thank you so much for this video! It took me 20 minutes to teach my 4 year old using the techniques shown. Also her confidence on a balance bike helped a lot 😅
I live in Türkiye 🇹🇷 and I still see parents teaching their kids to bike with stabilizers. It takes days and they struggle a lot, I hope one day most of them will learn this best technique. Thanks to this video I’ve learned to explain why not start with stabilizers: “they have first to unlearn tricycle” Because they learn a different thing, not an exact simulation of bicycle, this is the key point.
I learnt to ride a bike when I was 7 and I just got a new one and I am 9. I was scared that I would forget how to cycle but now I can ride to school myself and back and I’m very satisfied (And it only took me 3 days)!!😊😊😊😊
CF TP sorry to read that you are still struggling. It’s all about practicing and knowing it will come as you keep trying! She went from throwing her bike on the ground, being frustrated, to learning to stand on her pedals and riding with friends around the block. Don’t give up! Good luck 😊
I learn how to ride by myself when i was around 5/6 in 3 days. First day i learned to go straight, then right, then left. It wasn't as easy as you guys teach it and you can ask my knees about it i can still ride perfectly.
Just to say I watched your video this morning and by following some of your tips my son is riding his bike by himself this afternoon,. I'm amazed and so proud,,, thank you soo much your video is fantastic 👍🏽🙏🏾
Thank you thank you thank you for this vid. It works! My son is now riding his bike without training wheels. And he's only 3 years old. Great technique!
I found that starting them out on a tricycle first got them to learn what and how the pedaling part works. then moving to a real bike with adjustable training wheels (stabilizers) worked really well. both mine learned by 3 1/2 this way.
Fantastic advice! I had been trying to teach my 8 year old for the longest time without success. But after watching this video I was able to teach my kid in a couple of sessions. I think the three main aspects were how to steer the child, learning to brake while walking the bike, and the turning body mechanics. These 3 elements were the key for her to acquire confidence and control.
Thank you so much for this video. Im a mom who cant ride a bicycle and my daughter (5) got her first bicycle today and have to teach her. This has helped me a lot.
OMG!!! My 3 year old son learned in less than 30mins... I’m so excited and overwhelmed! Thank you so much for the tips. Can’t wait to practice starting and stopping alone to save me some sprints 🤣
I have no patience but I do want to teach my own kid how to ride a bike. She's 8 and she can't grasp using the paddles. This time I didn't yell. We took a break and will try again later this evening. Too hot out anyways. Love the vid btw
Great tips. My 3 year old was able to get her own balance after just a few tries (took less than an hour). She had been on supporting wheels since age 2.
Thank you so much for the tips. I done exactly like here and in first session I let go for a while and my child balanced well alone for a while. Now just more days of training and it will be good 😍.
I come across some people that much to my amazement are unable to ride a bicycle !!! So strange that in all their lives they've had no interest in bicycles. Personally I can't imagine life without bicycles and motorcycles. I loved it so much that I leant to ride from very early age with no trainer wheels, on a bicycle that was too big for me, because that's what there was in our house Now 65 years later I have many bicycles and motorcycles which I repair and collect, and I use all of them, some of which are crazy fast bicycles . thank you for you video.
Great video, I followed this advice with two exceptions, my daughter, 5 years old, had stabilizers and not a very good bike. It took three 10 minute sessions to get her to ride without any assistance. I recommend following Isla's advice shown in this video.
Thank you for the advice. I myself didn't learn to ride as a child and avoided it until age 28 (I can now ride btw). I'll be taking my son out today without his stabilisers for the first time so I'm hoping I can be a good teacher for him!
3:19 When i was young my brother taught me how to ride a bike he was 19 i was 10 now hes 42 and im 31 and my dad does not care about me. So he made my bike and also taught me and he set the seat high so i can't sit on it with my feet touching ground flat. So he taught me how to ride a bike without sitting on it and just being above the front tube because its too low And i will never get used to this
Thank you was great help. The first thing I did, was to watch this video. I did what she say to do. And before half hour a 5 years old was cycling on his own. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much. This video is so helpful. It helped me get an idea of how to teach my 5 year old. He picked it up in 15 mins and would continue building the skill.
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing. I was holding the child than the seat and I got the wow bit along with the child yesterday. Now that I have watched the video I will try the S and the brake today. One thing is the child should be confident that you will catch them. That reinforces them to cycle....
12/25/2023 - My daughter is 9 I know I'm late on this. She had bikes with training wheels but I never took her to learn to ride without training wheels out of pure laziness on my part. I bought her a new bike (no training wheels) for Christmas and I feel confident she's going to get it with this technique. She taught herself to roller skate pretty good and she taught herself how to use the Hover board in like 15 minutes and both require balance. I think we'll get it quickly. I'll come back tomorrow with an update. I think I'll take her to an empty parking lot. I'm excited to see how this works. 12/26/23 Update: It took less than 30 minutes but my 9 year old is riding her bike (20 inch). She also figured out how to start without me giving her a push and how to break. I took her to an empty parking lot and we worked on it until she got it and it didn't take long at all. In hindsight, this was so easy that I wish I did this when she was 5. My dad taught me how to ride and I never had training wheels. It's possible for your kid to learn without needing training wheels first. If I can do it over, I’d skip the training wheels and taught her earlier. This was just too easy to do.
Great video BikeRadar teaching my 4 year old not touched training wheels. When to Queen Elizabeth country park for there demo day she's got the basics down, Seemed to struggle keeping her eyes up and was looking down at what her feet were doing...
This video was so helpful! My kid learnt how to ride a bike in 5 sessions. Also it helped save my back! EBefore I saw the video I had thought I have to hold on to the seat.
I remember my mom giving up trying to teach me and I was so hungry to learn to ride with my older brother and our friends I kept trying on my own and like 30 min later I got it and was so excited I forgot how to stop and ran through the privacy fence
Great video. I bought my 6 year old his first bike today. It's an 18" BMX so we've got some work to do as he's only used to riding scooters, but this video has some great tips and advice. Thanks for the upload.
Hi really helpful vid. Any advise my daughter had managed to master the pedaling and balance within 2 days without her training wheels but I'm strugling to get her steering streight and not ride into bushes?
I learned with my friends , if your kiddo sees that their friends can ride they might wanna do it to! Their friends will most likely help them and it helped me. Quiet neighbourhoods and caravan sites are great for beginners!
Wonderful video. I can't wait to try! We've been trying a couple of years now and are stuck - he pedals about a quarter stroke , reverses his stroke to the starting point and repeats. I can't break him of it. Has anyone encountered this???
Our kids used a balance bike for a long time and are pretty good at balancing. Now my husband is convinced they need training wheels to learn how to pedal, I think it would be going backwards because they’d unlearn how to balance.
Excellent explanation and method! My daughter managed to ride in two days try! I keep recommend this video to all my friends with children!!!! Thanks so much!
Update : i taught my son to ride who has never road a bike before in 4 hours. First things first i removed the peddles, it Works wonders. Next i got him use to using the hand brakes by letting him glide and apply the safety brake. Ince he had balance and braking down pack the rest was easy. Added rhe peddles and getting him started was easier
Wow tremendously informative I must say I am impressed you covered quite a bit more than I would have ever even considered. I will take all of your advice and give it a go thank you so much.

Thank you so much, we had to practice in garden with not much space. Today went to the park and he nailed it. If we was allowed to park he would of done it sooner. First time at park with space and he got it. Awesome 👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks for the tips. Reassuring to know I'm on the right track with my 3 year old. I especially like the idea of introducing her to breaking while off the bike.
Tips: Right size for your bike. Too high will prevent you from getting grip on the handles, and too low will prevent you from turning properly. Face at the front, you will know your surroundings and have better balance. Looking down will lose your balance.
I assume clipless pedals are exactly the right ones. They are super efficient and your child will learn how to spin the cranks like a pro in the blink of an eye ;)
Johannes Kastner Kids should use clipless later in their learning so they can learn to hop off. Clipless also is a bit dangerous since they might not be strong enough to take their feet off
Great video. My son is 4 and he started learning late. I was getting frustrated thinking he should know how to pedal the bike forward but as you said his feet flail off the pedals. Hopefully he'll pick it up quick
It is asking a lot to get a child to master balance, pedaling, and braking all at once. To that end there are coasting bikes out there that do not have pedals, only foot pegs, allowing beginners to concentrate on balance, and stopping. Studies have shown the child will learn to ride faster on these kinds of coasting bikes.
My oldest daughter couldn't figure out the Strider bike and refused to use it so we switched to a pedal bike with training wheels which she has been doing from the ages of 2.5 to 5... Looks like we've got work to do !
I would never have believed this works as well as it does. Trained my 5 year old son in 30mins, then my 6 year old niece, then my 4 year old son, then my 5 year old niece. I’m like the go to guy for bike training now. I’d tell anyone about this video, it’s fantastic!

My 6 Year old learnt to ride in 30 mins using your techniques, lesson by lesson. Its really amazing to see my kid grasp it so fast. Thanks a lot !
That's incredibly fast 💥 Thanks for sharing your experience, from all at BikeRadar!

"Yards"
So taping feet to pedals and sending them down Fort William DH track is a no no?
No he won't die if you tell them you will kill them if they don't . Any way half of the skill in mtb are probably nerves anyway
No the tape bit is cruel, they will never learn superman seat grabs that way.

Our kids used a balance bike for a long time and are pretty good at balancing. Now my husband is convinced they need training wheels to learn how to pedal, I think it would be going backwards because they’d unlearn how to balance.
Brilliant video will be putting this to use today
Me and my 4 year old watched this before we went off to have a go! She did so well and only had to stop as my back was breaking haha xx
Thank you! Excellent instructions!
Thanks for watching!

Brilliant. Taking the training wheels off my kids bike tonight.
This method is amazing! My 4.5 year old went from nothing bike at all to almost fully independent in an hour, and she's not particularly skilled.
Thank you for this video
Superb! Great tips that'll come in handy soon. Thank you! :)
Good info! Trading in my kids training wheel bike for a balance bike
Nice. What brand/model is the bike in the video? Looks good...
Clipless also is a bit dangerous since they might not be strong enough to take their feet off
Make sure to send them down Fort William and Red Bull Hardline on a carbon dh bike
Great instructional and fantastic bike, sad that Islabikes went out of production
Great video. My son is 4 and he started learning late. I was getting frustrated thinking he should know how to pedal the bike forward but as you said his feet flail off the pedals. Hopefully he'll pick it up quick
An absolutely delightful and informative video on learning to ride a bike. Thank you for sharing!
Very well explained. Thank you for making this video and sharing these useful tips.
Amazingly helpful my sister needed this thank you for the tutorial!
My oldest daughter couldn't figure out the Strider bike and refused to use it so we switched to a pedal bike with training wheels which she has been doing from the ages of 2.5 to 5... Looks like we've got work to do !
Thank you so much this was really helpful. My 6yr old was able to ride today. We have beem struggling but this made it very easy.❤
