I've always appreciated that most of the Kennedy and Shriver family have spent their lives advocating and creating programs for those of us who don't have money or access for better living. Thanks to all ❤

Um, let’s actually look at what’s happening ing here: this is an informercial monetizing Hyman’s commercial projects. Many of those are not based on solid science. Shriver learned well from Arnold how to very effectively appear to be being helpful while deemphasizing her financial ties and motivations. If you think all of that is admirable you’re on your own.

Maria is not a female. I am so sick of the DECEPTION esp. of the Kennedys. Look up Jackie in a bathing suit or RFKJr, "sisters; & ex-wives. SEE it yet? Look at Marilyn Monroe singing at Happy Birthday, They give us a good look at Marilyn's back. Its a dude. I know its shocking but you see the world "speaks" in symbolism.

20:20 Yes, so many challenges. A big one is health insurance. People often only seek support from health care providers that are in their health insurance network. Functional medicine needs to start being covered by health insurance.

I started in my 40's to take a preemptive approach to my health. Now in my 60's I'm so glad I did. I did exactly what Maria is advocating: control the narrative in your checkups. Make a list of talking points and come away with the answers you seek. Too often it's the clinic and doctor controlling it. You may not get all the answers but you definitely walk away feeling a sense of empowerment. This check up was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had. I believe she appreciated it too. Be your own advocate.

It's unfortunate that only upper-class folks can really afford to see functional medicine practitioners on a regular basis. The government, insurance companies, and Big Medicine are in bed together. Average Americans are largely at the mercy of all three.

All everyone needs to do is eat healthy(no packaged and processed foods), low sugar, no alcohol, no smoking, etc. AND, walk every day. No one needs to be rich to do these things. Walking is free. This is actually the FIRST thing any functional medicine doctor will tell a patient.

Hmmm, not once did either one of them say 1)eat whole unprocessed foods, 2) walk everyday, its FREE. Also, cut out all the sugar, alcohol, smoking, junk foods. This is actually what a functional medicine doctor will tell you to do first, THEN incorporate supplements as needed. Do we need more research dollars??? No. They already know the answers (eat healthy, exercise).

Incredibly Inspirational … I’m totally onboard with This approach. As a 73 year old female, having Hashimoto’s for over 40 years, no answers , but started to make Wellness as my goal, with a Pegan Diet, Intermittent Fasting, swimming two hours a day and cycling. Just trying to prevent any further deterioration. I had two knee replacements and a hip replacement in the last 1.2 years. Will pursue the Functional Medicine approach. I want to learn more about my status. It’s a lot of work but it’s the most important thing I can do for myself. It’s Unfortunate that I didn’t start earlier, but my joint replacements gave me the impetus. Thank you for this motivational podcast

Thanks so much Maria & Mark! I had no idea how much of a powerhouse you are Maria! And I know you're going to smash your below 60 goal. I absolutely loved this podcast and am already a big fan of Dr. Hyman's work. Just last year, I signed up for Function Health as I was interested in finding out my biological age. What a pleasant surprise when I found out that I am 15 years younger than my chronological age. This just reinforces all of the work I've done to educate and advocate for my health. Lucily, my dad has always been a great role model for exercise, so I had that figured out in my late 20's. Sometimes you need a bit of affirmation because it takes work, presence and knowledge to prioritize health. I'm so grateful for both of you!!!!❤

I am a Canadian that was suffering from arthritic joints and issues digesting food which o suffered from life long. I took the Viome full body test and very complete questionnaire to analyze what’s going on in my body. I ordered their specialized prebiotics and vitamin mix for me. Within 2 weeks of taking these supplements/prebiotics and following the food diet my pain was almost eliminated and I was able to sleep better. I have always eaten healthy food and only took anti-inflammatory counter medication. My mother also suffered her whole life with many things he which is so very painful for her and us the family to watch the suffering. She had many operations removing her intestines, thyroid and Dr.’s over prescient medication. Gut health is huge…

I am so happy to see that there is now a conversation around preventing disease and not just taking medications for symptoms. Unfortunately,, until we really get our
metabolic health in order we will continue to see a rise in all diseases. Dr. Matt Phillips of NZ has been running clinical trials for Alzheimer's and Parkinsons using
the keto diet and has been able to reduce symptoms by allowing the mitochondria to heal and restore metabolic health. He believes all diseases are a result of
dysregulation of energy in the mitochondria and is at the root cause of all diseases.

she is doing a Metabolic Keto diet and has put her mental illness Schizoaffective Disorder into remission after decades of suffering

However, I would not say this woman who was always happy go lucky feels that way anymore. She has lost all her children but my husband. Everyone who would have been her age are deceased, so Loneliness is the # 1 killer of the elderly. No matter how much we give our time it is never enough. I can't right now at 67 say I want my life to look like that just for the sake of a number.

In addition, yoga for past 14 years and I was diagnosed with osteoporosis at age 62. I've been dairy, gluten, soy, sugar free for 14+ years. High nutrient dense my whole life. I now wonder if it was giving up dairy and not enough calcium. None of the functional med docs and NDs mentioned supplementing calcium.

    • @aliciastanley5582
      @aliciastanley5582 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

I recently read somewhere supplementing calcium is a very bad idea as it feeds arteriosclerosis, heart valve calcium buildup, kidney stones, calcium buildup in the joints & eyes. Eating dairy is better and go with European brown cow products and better yet goat & sheep cheeses( they are 30% MCT oil), yogurt, kefir and take D3 (5k in summer, 10k winter) WITH K2 (100 dose). These ( the k2)vitamins direct the calcium into the bones and not the rest of the places I listed above.

I have such mixed emotions about this interview, they’ve both used it as a selling platform. I’m okay with the Dr doing that because he’s dedicated so much useful information to us over the years. I genuinely love him.
But when she mentions preventative care, oral health, hearing etc. I’m 60 years old and have health insurance for the first time in my entire life.
The best we can do as poor people is our homework and follow through.

China and used his gift of tuina acupressure to give me a new life. I started working with him as I started getting stronger. Long story. Western drs. Do not understand chronic disease that’s why dr. Hyman reached into functional medicine to help himself. I have heard his personal story and that was mine too. Current medical care is more reactive instead of pro active. Bio markers show significant signals of certain diseases months or years before developing the disease. Your average patient that is dependent on Medicare or health insurance coverage will not get the tests required to find out specific bio markers because it is not covered. It costs money to test and maintain this type of health numbers and not many can afford it.

No one can tell me how to reverse all of this, but the doctors do give me the meds. Any insight would be appreciated. Yes, high cholesterol too. Bottom line…. US healthcare is designed to treat you after you’re already sick. And that’s only if you have a somewhat easy to diagnose condition. If we truly wanted a healthier society we’d concentrate on PREVENTION! Unfortunately, that concept isn’t compatible with our capitalist system.
