Walking my dog in the park today and I spotted a mother and her son carving on a park bench. We started a conversation and turns out we both learned to carve watching Doug Linker videos. Thank you, Doug for all that you share.
My gosh man, I have watched these videos for years now and they never cease to amaze me. Your ability in carving and artistry is second to none. I will just continue to watch and practice. Thanks for keeping the great content going. 👍🏻👍🏻
I've been a carpenter for 42 years but only recently started whittling and carving - and I think this video shows something to aspire to in the long term. I know from experience in my trade that getting good (I mean 'very good', in the eyes of others) doesn't happen over night - you have to want it, practise it and earn it! That is one good reason to watch these inspiring videos.
Brilliant. He looks better fed than in the traditional depictions. I seriously love the eyes. The facial expression is fantastic. So well done Doug. Thanks for sharing.
Doug a few short years ago you were a rookie with a new hobby. Now you are an artist that teaches a variety of skills in a variety of ways. The novice can access the archives and those of us who have watched for quite awhile grab nuances that you are kind enough to share. Tremendous stuff! Thanks for what you do.
Absolutely love this! There is something so satisfying about hearing and watching your chisels move through that Cottonwood bark. Thanks for putting this video together.
Another great video my friend ..you are far surpassing the video world in your carving ..Your teaching them Doug and thank you for taking the time to help others
Tools are crazy sharp…hot knife through butter! Appreciating the different angles too, the cinematography if you will. Great work as usual Doug, thank you the continued inspiration 👍🏻
I started watching your videos a month ago and you’re the reason why I’ve started my journey through this land of woodcarving…starting with the little character’s… love to watch you and your awesome creations… thank you for sharing your craft and knowledge ..keep the videos coming..I’ll continue to watch when I’m not carving. 👍🏻 I hope that I can come to a fraction of your abilities some day.
Never seems to amaze me. Best wood carver/creator around. Thanks again Doug. Ima make a leprechaun but one of your minis from the past. Love the step by step vids. 🤘🏻
I love the Silent carvings because that's what I want when carving/whittling .... Silence! It allows me to think and stay focused on the task at hand. I'm ADHD and I hyper focus when I am doing stuff like this. I'm guilty of clicking the mute button when I watch videos. Not that I know everything, I know very little 😂 I'm just a visual learner.. I'm sure there's others out there that know what I'm talking about. Thank you Doug! This was a treat to watch and a beautiful piece. ☘️☘️💰
Amazing work Doug. You never cease to amaze me. Well done. I follow your videos closely as I wait for my first delivery. Made my roughing knife from a half-shank steak knife. Ground it to rough shape with emery belt sander, then moved to 220, 320, 500, 800, 1000, & 1500 grit wet/dry. Then stropped it with my raw leather cow hide. My gloves, other knives and finger tape due March 22nd. In the meantime, I watch you, Gene, and others. Cheers and God Bless. Vernon.
Doug, you are the Michelangelo of wood carving. I really enjoy all of your videos. You inspired me to start whittling, I got a starter set and I can't wait to start.
Absolutely amazing , your a wonderful teacher , I just recently tried to Whittle a stick I was quite pleased with the outcome for my first attempt 😃 Thankyou so much for sharing and teaching 🙏🙏🙏
Your growing talent is so inspiring. Thank you for all your effort to get your amazing knowledge to us... The Hopefuls! My husband Andi have had so much fun with you in our pocket!
Hi Emily 👋 I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….🌹
Am so envious about that cottonwood you have there Doug, looks so nice to carve, nothing that I know of comes close to that down here. BTW you have outshone yourself with that fella...👍🏼🇦🇺

Nice one Doug, this is outstanding. I watch these over and over, and get some really useful pointers that I try to employ in my own carving. Keep it up.
Doug you are one of the very best. Have you ever met Gene or Kevin in person ? What a vidio that would make ! Thank you for sharing your skill and teaching with us.
Tengo problemas para entender tus explicaciones...no sé inglés. Pero aprendo mucho sólo con ver tus vídeos. Muchas gracias por estar ahí ,porque siempre espero que llegue uno nuevo.
Mate another really great video. You obviously have years of experience. You've inspired me to have a crack and give it a go. Obviously I know perfection won't come at the first several dozen try's. How long did it take you to carve the figure? You seem to use a reasonable amount of force with the chisel at times. So how do you fix mistakes? Ie: accidentally took his nose off or carved a little to deep splitting the wood, or carved a line to far.
Awesome carving Doug! I would love to see you build a birdhouse the looks like an old man’s face, with the mouth as the bird hole. Thanks for the entertainment!
I just love your videos. You are amazing at what you do. Thank you for helping me learn to carve. My husband is jealous of your cottonwood. Do you use linseed oil to seal?

Outstanding!
Really good work Mr Linker💚🇬🇧🌱
Absolutely amazing, Doug. At what point did he come to life and start talking to you during the carving? 😀
Nicely done!
Absolutely beautiful art. Where do you get your cottonwood bark? Don’t have cottonwood bark in Arizona.
Hey Doug, loving your videos, just a quick question: Do you dry out your wood before doing these? If so what's your method?
JH
I don’t -this is bark that is gathered when loose from dead cottonwood trees
That is incredible!!!!
Excellent!
I just love your videos. You are amazing at what you do. Thank you for helping me learn to carve. My husband is jealous of your cottonwood. Do you use linseed oil to seal?

Great as usual. I have a question though. What is the button for that you added to the shamrock? Or is it a shamrock?
Beautiful...please....what kind of wood is this??
Thank you , Mr Doug .
🐺

Amazing work!!! I was wondering where did you get the curved blade detail knife you used on the eyes?
Very talented
