Tried to practice how to anchor and do a snubber… #samnewman #boatlife #bucketlist #yachting #boating #yachting #yachtcharter #travel #fishing #media #cooking
Hi Sam, I recommend looking into a dual tether snubber bridle, you can then attach it to both cleats on either side of the bow sprit. They have a claw which latches onto the chain. It should also be able to run through the bow rollers to make it easier to use. You just need to buy the correct size to match the chain size.
Wow Sam. Ive had a boat licence for 20 years and you have taught me more about tying a anchor than anyone. It think its because you played with Michael Turner. No 9 legend.
Now i know you are going to think how is that possible. But ill tell you.He was on the wing and you on the flank. And your anchhook up reminded me of a great pass in the 70s.
Well that was scary to watch. Sam whacking his head on one of those rails and falling over into the water unconscious had me worried. That looks like an accident waiting to happen.
The line attached to the anchor chain is referred to as a "snubber" or "bridle" if you use two. They work best if you use a decent length of about the length of your boat. (depending on the depth of the water). Also, using a single snubber is best fastened to a cleat inline with the bowsprit. If you fasten the snubber to a cleat off centre as you showed in your video the boat will swing a lot more, especially in deeper water *if* there is a strong current running. You two look like you are having a blast. Keep up the fun! Cheers! :)
What are you guys filming with please? If you could mention in the next video that would be good thanks. Looks very stable unlike mine. You need a dead cat for the mic though. Evo...
I'm coming up to Airlie next week from shitty Vic. Let me know if you want me to bring some teak deck cleaner with me and give you a hand to scrub the decks. They are a disgrace! Just sayin!
Sue’s still fishing on the boat, poor old Sam bites the hook every time and Sue keeps reeling him in. 🎣 😅

Angst, Anything Nautical Gives Sam Trouble!
Great insight into anchoring and securing boat
Bridle goes to both front bollards. Clip onto anchor. Unloads chain from windlass and bow roller.
windlass sam but you already know that 😁
The thingamebob is what anything is called that we forget the name for.
My God, get a cone of silence built over the entire boat, please Sam.

It's a cold day in Melbourne Sam it's 14 degrees chilly
Wind less… as in it’s a winch you don’t need to manually WIND up Sammy 🙏
Anchor up and down motor deployed retreval
'Snubbing the anchor'... and keep line clear of the anchor chain... we don't want tangles...
you are right again Sue
Are you planning on hitting the golf course at some point in Queensland, Sam? ⛳

That mechanism looks a bit feeble to me.
It's a windless. And that's the worst looking BRIDDLE I've ever seen. It should be tied equally across the 2 front cleats
