This is a hyperpop tutorial on how to make a Midwest type song. I did this in Ableton but the techniques will apply with any daw you use.

Thank you so much, this is exactly the kind of feedback I need. I’ll definitely be better about that in the future. By the structure you mean talking about the chords or the actual patterns right, not just the sound design? Just want to clarify so I can make sure to do that
@@JNABS both I guess? what I mean is stuff like for example, hi hats on every other beat with a triplet every other bar, claps on the start of every beat, simple but fast melody, the 808 follows the root of the melody. stuff like that that is typical for the genre/type of song you're explaining. I feel like you already do a pretty good job with sound design
n not like "every hyperpop punk song has to have triplets on the end of every bar" more like "hyperpop punk uses triplets for hi hats a lot, typically every other bar or every couple of bars" so like giving guidelines that aren't like super concrete (you don't do this btw just wanted to throw that in) if that makes sense

@@JNABS theres a genre called scenecore, basically a subgenre of hyperpop, using alot more edm/dance style beats. i was wondering if you could teach something like that? a good song in the genre is "all i want is you" by rebzyyz

I’m fortunate to be able to get a lot of really great plugins, I can definitely make some videos with just the stock plugins! Appreciate the feedback🙏🙏🙏
@@JNABS when I was a beginner, videos with the stock plugins were super nice if I wanted to follow because I couldn't drop 200 for serum and shit adds up really fast.

@@JNABS one thing that I consider is specially complicated in the begining is making the bass and the lead, because in the case of the plucks you can use the lead or the bass and just alter the envelope and pretty much thats it :), but in the case of the lead/bass, is kinda hard to understand how the unison helps to make the sound better, specially when you add distorion or chorus, which leads to phase problems that are kinda hard to solve, and sometimes tourn down the phase start of the unison doesn't help in much cases, at least that is what happens to me in like, 99% of the time, LOL

@@lilunzy1101 cool, i would do exactly what this video is saying, but when you go to the pitch part in the unison section don't turn it up so far. I would keep it more in the middle for a less detuned sound. Then just eq and add distortion and you should be good to go if you are playing the 1 and the five like i showed in the video! Let me know if that works!

how do you pitch the kick and snare to the key of the song? do u just pitch it to the root note? great tutorial btw
I usually pitch the kick to the root of the song and the snare to either the root or the fifth (7 semitones up or 5 semitones down from the root). At the end of the day though it’s whatever sounds the best to your ear! I usually use these as a starting point and then just go with whatever feels right.
