    Hey,been watching for at least 5yrs,just flashed back,,no ur absolutely fine with those strips in ur snake house,had mites on my bi,tried everything to no avail,on and off for like a year,for a 6ft x2ftx2ft,,1/5 of that strip,one time,no mites ever seen again

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles

      The stuff is amazing and I’ve never seen bad effect from them to the snake unless the strip got in the water and the snake drank the water.

    Man, I couldn't make a decision on what snake I really wanted and then you opened up that tub with the Surinams in there...my god they are beautiful.

    Thank you! I appreciate this info, and pretty well the same idea I follow. I also use the pest strips..s no hard times from me on that. Lol. I cut them into roughly 1inch strips and place them into the small condiment cups with some holes punched in the lids, and place 1 cup per cage/tub . I've dn that for roughly 5 years. No mites and no problems. Mites suck.. so I'm all about prevention. Thanks again for the videos. Keep em coming

    Watching these videos are making me wonder about my own boa's actual age. I got her when she was barely pushing two foot In Christmas and she's grown tremendously since then. I was told her age was around 4 months old but she's very close to hitting 5 ft now. I've never force fed her and regular vet visits say shes in perfect health and not overweight. Do some boa's just grow more than others or could it possibly be she is older than I was told?

    Do they not enjoy hides or any type of enrichment? It looks really empty in those tubs.

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are essentially in a hide all on their own. The enrichment would be when they come out, but I dont 100% disagree. I'm going to be covering the ethics of breeding at some point and thus will be covered for sure.

      @@JasonsExoticReptiles I really want to get into tub racks but there is just so much conflicting information online. Like, you do your thing, but someone will always have something to say or will question how you do things.
      I just want happy snakes. I might want to get into breeding at some point, but right now I just want a space efficient way to house my collection.
      I agree with the "whole tub as a hide" statement. I've heard most snakes are healthier and happier in a tub aswell.
      I have been looking at ARS Caging for racks, but I might have to take a look at Freedom's.

    What size would you recommend haveing a 7ft boa in?

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Something about 4 foot by 2 foot would be good. Most boas are fine in that size period a few will get 8 foot plus and you will have to bump them to something 6ft.

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Rhodes the room is about 1000sqft. I've found they dramatically looks effectiveness after about 1-2 weeks even though they say 4 months. Every month or so I change one in one of the racks so they get rotated. Some are 4-6 months old and some are brand new.

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ballin Boas/Geckos you can get them almost anywhere now. Walmart, CVS , Home Depot etc. They work great if you have a separate room for reptiles. You wouldnt want to keep them around all the time if you keep your snakes in the bedroom or living room. Someplace where you or other could be exposed for long periods of time. They are fine for treatment in short durations in these areas.

  • @upnorthcaprihomestead1125
    @upnorthcaprihomestead1125 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You mentioned a mite strip? How does that work could you do a short video of it?

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's basically just a pesticide strip in a plastic protector. You open up the package and place it in the rack or near the cage. I'd do a video, but there is not much to it. Other people open them up and cut it up, but I have never done it that way. Literally open the package and place it in the room with your snakes.

    • @thickerconstrictor9037

      4x2x2 PVC. Once they get 5-6 feet get a 6-8 foot PVC enclosure

    • @keithfaulkner6319
      @keithfaulkner6319 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No a 10 is too small. But thicker constrictor is clearly one of those people who thinks all creatures need huge cages, whether they're snakes or elephants. They cannot be reasoned with. A 4x2x2, or maybe 4x2x3 if you want a taller cage, is fine for any boa up to 8 feet or so. I like to put a shelf, plywood on legs, most of the cage size, in the cage to add climbing ability and effectively add floor space.

    • @thickerconstrictor9037

      A lot of these guys that have this many boas just stuff them in little drawers. I would rather have 20 boas all in 6 to 8 foot beautiful enclosures with room to climb and exercise and stretch outthen have a ton of them stuffed in little azz enclosures. This is why I don't go to people like this for advice I go to herpetologists and zoologists. this guy knows his shit for sure but I will never support people that stuff there snakes in shit like this

    • @thickerconstrictor9037
      @thickerconstrictor9037 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And don't get me wrong I'm far from perfect. I made the mistake of putting boas in glass tanks. which I am now getting rid of all of them and putting them in six to eight foot PVC enclosures and that's a mistake that I'll never make again but if you gave me the choice of putting a 2-3 foot snake in a 4-foot glass cage with proper husbandry versus a little sock drawer I would choose them everyday

    • @keithfaulkner6319
      @keithfaulkner6319 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      To answer your actual question, not really. Boas are jungle animals, and probably rarely ever see direct sunlight, which basking animals do.
