    I hear that a lot around Facebook groups that they like to keep their baby milk snakes in a small plastic tote, which I disagree. I like them in at least in a 10 gallon aquarium at first and then upgrade them to a 20 gallon.. but like you said, it’s OK if it’s larger as long as you have plenty hides and furniture so they don’t feel stress! Thank you for this amazing video and advice!!

    Man, your content is so helpful and informative. I’m a boa guy first and foremost, but I’ve always had a fascination with Burms and retics as well. However, the need for a second person once the snake gets beyond 8 ft or so is my main reason for sticking with boas. Appreciate you dude!

    This channel is awesome! I am getting my first large snake, well rescuing it to be exact. A rare breeds farm has it in their now closed reptile room and it had gone to the vets to be put to sleep, luckily it's now back in it's enclosure while I'm waiting for the vivarium. The snake is a male 9ft Red tail common Boa which is around 10 years old, the current owners have had it the last 7 years and it's used to be handled every day. I've had to go for a wooden enclosure which is 6ft L x 4ft H x3ft W, and the idea is to extend the enclosure at some point by another 2ft in length.

    Awesome video, very informative. I love that you say cages cant be too big, I have always been a strong believer in this. Topics like this can be difficult, for instance, I dont completely agree with your minimum size, I believe that minimum size (Which is a pretty good size all around) Is long side equal length to the snake and short side and height half the legth of the snake. These are the sizes that I stick too, they are pretty easy to setup basking spots and get temperature and humidity right in, they also give your snake room too move around in without stressing the snake, but you can always go bigger. I love that you covered this topic and even though I dont agree with the minimum size you presented in this video then I completely agree with the overall message.

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! And yeah again I see this as a minimum and a guideline. Different types of snake will require more or less. I like the 1x length
      5x the width but when you think a retic gets 20 ft that means you need a 20x10 cage. Although that's great I dont necessarly think that a minimum, but everyone has a different view on this and that's great! We all should be striving to making the enclosures as comfortable as possible!

      @@JasonsExoticReptiles I agree, I don't personally have any big snake but some long time friends of the family had a 22 ft python. They gave it a whole room of the house just for it self, the room measured around 25x15x10 ft. Dealing with big snakes is both time consuming and very expensive, but the reward is so worth it in the end. I remember being little, around 9 years old and about 4 ft tall, walking in to that room was like entering a different world. It cannot be compared anything, it was like a private zoo but better, and that snake was like a puppy.

    Jason - Great channel, thank you. QUESTION: I have a 3-ft. Female Hog Island cross in a 20L glass aquarium which is 30.5" long x 13" deep x 13" high. The most I would upgrade to would be a 36" long front-opening tank, but either way you are still dealing with "mesh" tops. What are your thoughts on this ? Thanks.

      Use a piece of glass or plexi glass to cover most of the top and switch to a under tank heater on an thermostat.

    So I got me a 4 month old Colombian boa a couple months ago and the guy got them from told me to start off at the small cage 10 gallon and then as he got bigger to upgrade to a 20 and then just keep going up as a snake top bigger because this snake would be more comfortable being smaller and a smaller cage. What's your opinion on that? Should I upgrade the size with him or just get a forever sized tank right now?

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends alot on your setup but as long as you have appropriate coverage you can go as large as you want. Too many people buy that forever cage and don't provide coverage which stresses the snake.

    Hey jason, wonderful video as always :). I wanted to ask you something that I find a bit odd. I have a paradigm boa that is around 11 months old, and is only a little less than 2 feet. I feed him rat pups once a week and his body is squared and looks great. I just always see other peoples BCI's that are 1 year old and they are MUCH bigger then him. could he just be a slow starter? Thank you in advanced

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! That sounds about right for an ear old male. If he is super small he could have some dwarf in him. But that growth is about right.

    What size you recommended for Burmese Python Male for all stage life ?

    • @JasonsExoticReptiles
      @JasonsExoticReptiles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As large as you can go. If you want to buy the final cage I would go for a 6x3 since you never know how larger he will get. Otherwise you can probably go with something smaller and updated accordingly. I'll stress, the larger the better
