  • Hi Everyone. In this video I show how easy it is to make your own silicone moulds for resin, or other casting projects. I chose buttons for this one as they may look tricky, but they are really easy to do using the tips and tricks I show throughout the video on making silicone moulds.

My paternal Grandmother married at 14. She had 14 babies. Her husband died when the youngest (my Dad), was 4. She managed to raise her family alone during World War 2. She later lived with us, she taught me to be frugal. This was before 'recycling' was a word. When garments could no longer be patched all buttons were removed and saved. We made 'rag rugs' from the well used fabric. I have soooo many buttons! But there's many I simply cannot part with - too many memories involved. Thanks to your video I can create molds and keep my sentimental treasures. Thank you for that gift.

I have molds for tic-tac-toe boards with Xs & Os, but only enough for 2 of each. So I made 5 Xs and 4 Os and used them to make a mold so that I don't have to worry about making only 2 at a time & matching the exact colors each time. I only have to make the colors once, and make a complete set in one sitting! The mold came out so well, I can't wait to make more! The tic-tac-toe board molds I have are one small & one large. The large ones I am making & sending to nursing homes in the area of my daughter & myself. My daughter works in a nursing home near where she lives, and my step-mother lives in a nursing home near me.

Love buttons and those came out really neat!! Wanted to suggest another idea for the first failed button mold... the back of that was nice and big plus smooth. I would save it and just use the smooth shiny back for whatever... I could use it in the oven to bake my clay pieces etc. It would come in handy whenever I needed a flat smooth silicone surface. :D Filler for another mold is a good option as well if you don't need it for the surface. :D - Heidi

Loving your channel you have answered a lot of questions for me !!! I have one tho could you use silicone mold putty as a dam in a already existing silicone mold for say 2 pours that you didnt want the two colors of resin to mix? mainly would it release from the existing mold without ruining it?

I buy hundreds of penguin ones and would like to try and make my own as they are sometimes out of stock abd I guess would be a lot cheaper. What medium would i use? If you have already done one would you please consider doing one. 🙂

Hello dear, I was wondering if you you have tried clear buttons with a fabric? Like adding fabric into the resin? Leave a hole in the center and have like a fabric ring. I’m asking because I’ve never made buttons. With this video I was also thinking I could make cabochons or cameos? Sometimes you want a picture or a matching fabric in your items. Question is how would one add photos or fabric into a button or cabochons?

I wanted to make my own button mold, because I use a LOT of buttons when I crochet clothing for my kids.
But I was also wanting to make my own bead mold. I hate the one I bought online, after 2 uses it cracks and I have tonreplace it and I can only getb4 beads of each size at a time. Theybare hard to fill and harder to remove and the molds are NOT cheap...
I thought you had a bead mold video but I couldn't find it

    Hi Steve🙋🏾‍♀️😁
Quick question regarding making a 2 part mold. The object I have are drawer pulls, that have a spiral cross x pattern right in the hollow center and the ends are straight.
The center criss cross x portion is hollow/empty.
I've tried using rubber mold liquid and of course it fills the center. Which I then have to pick it out.
So when I pour resin in the mold it obviously fills in.
I want the center to be open as the original.
I love the drawer pull and want to duplicate it. I'm stumped!?
    Any ideas please?? Thank you!
*any suggestions from members, viewers are appreciated 💯😁

Hot glue also works - they dont last as long though but very quick and easy. Just cover item with some vaseline and cover in glue. Let it dry and use!

  • @offairhead
    @offairhead 3 ปีที่แล้ว

The USA link you gave for the liquid silicone is actually not silicone but a liquid rubber instead.
Rubber is not equal/the same as it is damaged by UV and some of us use UV resin from time to time, especially for small little projects like this so we definitely shouldn’t be making molds from rubber.

I always slow Steve's videos to at least 90%. I don't have an 'ear' for a "British/English" accent. (I also tried to find out which term is proper, but I'm still confused about it. Sorry about that.)
