AT Restoration, Frankly I hope you won this challenge! You deserve it. I have never seen some of these techniques for removing finishes & for creating a new Stunning more to the period of MCM Restoration of a Beautiful cabinet. I was enthralled & astounded wondering what you would do next. The creation of the new but astonishingly like true period Knobs and the little accent of the thin black line to accentuate the routered top edge , are very clever. Those Knobs! A faithful recreation that will hold up for many years to come . This piece is Lovely now & could be used & treasured for many different purposes in a home or business for many years to come. Glad you saved it from the landfill! Great job. I’m a new sub, you’ve hooked me. Again I hope you won! Blessing’s from Dozer, Butter Bean & me in Garden Ridge Texas 🇺🇸
I really like that you bring back the beauty of the piece and wood instead of covering it all up with paint!!! I love watching your expertise, and hope that you are being safe while using the "nasty" chemicals!!
When you see someone make the new pulls for the cabinet, you know you are seeing true restoration. He didn't run down to the nearest hardware store to find something that looked "good enough". The grain of the wood is beautiful to see. Thank You, again. From North Carolina, USA
Oh wow, it's like having a master class in furniture restoration in every video. Really loved seeing all the steps into creating/working with shellac. And of course, a really beautiful final product. (^.^) Thank you so much for posting!
I've watched all the videos of the MCM challenge now, all of them are very good, but if there has to be a 1. place it has to be you. Your devotion to your work, to a peace of old furniture, your accuracy of work, is the reason I watch and love your videos.
Another triumph. You handle the wood so gently and respectfully. A lot of restorers would not take the time to hand rub that shellac. You are like the Zen master of furniture.
Well done! That shellac process, from taking off the old to putting on the new is classic and really shows your years of experience. I also enjoyed the "re-creation" of the Bakelite pieces, which looked like you were using a form of epoxy? Fascinating 🙂
Ахти, добрый вечерочек! Куда же вы пропали? Мало ваших чудесных видео, скучаю 😢 они для меня как детская сказочка перед сном 😍🤗 очень успокаивают нервы))
Gorgeous, just simply gorgeous! The wood refinishing, with that touch of black is stunning. And the knobs you created are perfect. WOW! Carol from California
It's such a cute little caninet. It looks better than new. I enjoy watching other "Refinishers," but it's very refreshing to watch a craftsman who makes his own shellac and period knobs.
My thoughts exactly! My second thought was, "Is he pulling our legs?" Never have I heard that shellac comes from bugs. And who and when did someone figure out you could use it to put a finish on wood?
@odge4451 Humans are an inventive lot, aren't we? We have evidence that shellac has been used for 3000 years, but it likely goes back even further. My guess is that they observed the female lac bugs secreting their secret sauce on the trees they like to live in and saw the changes in the wood and it went from there. Now that you've found out about this bug, go google cochineal. 😃
It's a secretion of the female Lac Beetle from India and Thailand. Shellac is dissolved in alcohol and is extremely versatile in wood finishing. It's also used in food and pharmaceuticals.
@@ralphiewigs2208 I worked in a pharmaceutical laboratory in the 80s and shellac as well as beeswax was used to coat tablets. The tablets would be coated in a machine very much like a cement mixer and they would come out very shiny. I was never sure which was more harmful the medication or the coating.
That came out beautifully. I love shellac and think it is a beautiful finish. You did a great job of showing how easy it is to use. I am really enjoying the collaboration and am so pleased you are part of it. Nice work!
I love to see videos where old furniture problems are fixed instead of just a little Bondo, and lots of paint. I have learned much watching your videos. You do awesome work and can do it all..repairs, veneer repair or application of veneer, upholstery, refinishing etc…thank you for your very informative videos and you don’t even have to talk since it is usually very clear what you are doing…
You are an superb restorer! I am so impressed by all the furniture I have seen you transform from sad to beautiful. I love watching you work. Thank you for sharing.
I hope you won this challenge! My goodness, why anyone would cover over (sloppily no less) such beautiful wood! The bookmarked doors & top are to die for! You are so blessed to work with these old woods! Hello, from Deep South Texas!
I so enjoy watching you craft era-appropriate handles and pulls for your projects. They add so much to the entire vision for your restorations as well as respecting the piece.
In the 1980s I was a partner in a shop doing exactly as your video shows, refinishing and repairing furniture. Many times, the same type of cabinets in the same state as you show. I wish we had the modern tools you use. Recently, in the garage, I came across some old fads - rubbing pads - made in the same way as yours. Stored in an airtight box and still usable if a little shellac or meths/denatured alcohol is applied.
I love true restorations, not just acoat of paint on and jack up the price. This cabinet us now a true treasure. I learned alot about repairing wormy wood !!! 😅😅
Great job. I like to watch you work. You teach as well as restore beautiful furniture from the past. Didn't realize that shellac was all natural either. Have a great day
Hi AT you are a very difficult opponent, you did a superb job. It's our second challenge, you won the other one, maybe I'll win this challenge, or there will come a day when I'll be able to beat you😅🤞 Greetings🤝
When I saw you make knobs as part of restoration, I knew this is real restoration and man what a beautiful end product. Using linseed oil and terpentine brought back sweet memories of my childhood days growing up seen it a lot. Making your own stain with shellac totally different. You are the winner. I have seen all the 13 videos. This is restoration.❤
Superb, indeed, AT! I love watching you because you make woodworking and furniture restoration look as natural to you as breathing! Good luck with the challenge!❤
The cabinet is superb! And so is your craftsmanship skills. Also may I say how handsome you are looking 😊❤ Great job and good luck in the competition.🎉
I learned so much watching your beautiful craftsmanship. The best of the challenge projects I have seen, surpassing some of my old and new favourite restorers. 🙏💚
Linseed oil and turpentine? Amazing Ahti! It really did turn out like 3D! You continue to amaze me with the quality of care you put into your restorations. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with us! A++++!
I AM AN OLDER WOMAN NOW AND I MUST I ENJOY WATCHING YOU , MOSTLY AT NIGHT TIME TO ME WATCHING YOU IS RESTFUL YOU DO SUCH BEAUTIFUL WORK, GOD HAS GAVE YOU AN AMAZING TALENT.
You remind me with your videos how beautiful wood can be and how many wonderful stories it can tell when given a new life. Thank you for that very much ❤
As always your videos are both informative and show your craftsmanship off beautifully. Thanks for sharing and blessings from Southern California, USA. 💜🙏
It's always exciting to see one of your new videos is available. The methods for restoration that you use increase my knowledge and appreciation for your craft and I am ever impressed with the beauty of your finished work.
It's so great to see you using your knowledge to produce this thorough and perfect restoration. The furniture turned out stunning! I enjoy a lot seeing you creating handles and I really liked seeing coffee as an ingredient that can help tone wood. Amazing video! Bravo, bravo!👏👏🌷
I'm here for the MCM challenge. That cabinet is shiny and new again! The epoxy work to make the knobs was cool! I really appreciate the shellac recipe! I'm going to try that on my next project. I'm definitely hitting the subscribe button. Well done!!
Beautiful work, and I remember having a cupboard exactly the same as this, for my shoes back in the early '60's. I felt a little sad that you weren't able to use the original handles again because I remember how tactile they were with that indentation. brought back a lot of memories. 🤗
I especially like that you don't talk, you simply show. So many videos are made by people who apparently really enjoy hearing themselves babble on and on. Thank you!
Nicely done. The instructions on making shellac is interesting, gross but interesting! This has a lovely wood finish, feels very art deco. Thanks for sharing your work. Good luck with the challenge.

The food container to get the bubbles out of the epoxy mold - genius! Loved watching the wood grain come back to life.

It may 'only' be a simple piece of furniture but after your work on it Ahti, you've turned it into a stunning piece. Thanks for the video.
In the hands of an expert like you, you made that little cabinet live again. Thanks, Ahti, for sharing this with us all. It's gorgeous.
I’ve always wondered how to make your own shellac based polish, I’ve only ever used pre-made. Thank you for sharing.

One of the things I love about your videos is the use of techno pop that sounds like it's right out of a Cold War Soviet-CIA spy movie from the 80s.
