    Miss Wu sets a new standard for "Ondin." It's her flawless precision and astonishing dynamic control that allows her to interprest so fearlessly.

    This is THE BEST "Ondine" I've ever heard (and seen). You scared me. You took me to another world. The underwater world. I couldn't breathe. Your left hand keep me totally enchanted… captivated. Magic, pure-sound magic. Bravissimo. CVD

      Among the Nine Muses, only Calliope was granted this 'power' and only She can bestow this 'power' ( the ability to resurrect the dead) upon those student She deems worthy. Plato said, "Among all the gifts the gods have bestowed upon Man, only Music can give us direct access to the soul." As you said, "You never know!" Sent with love, Charles.

    Masterful. Divine. She perfectly brought out the melody against the back drop of accompanying right hand notes. This was magical. Bravo.

    This is grace at its purest. The touch of the keys, the music, the interpretation, the gestures and the pianist herself. We're touching heavens here, guys!!!

    Absolutely stunning, and the splash at the end leaves 90% of the competition in the shade.

    I'm a big and old fan of ondine, this interpretation is indeed exceptionnal, although i regret it's to fast sometimes, espacially the very end of the piece. Anyway, bravo Di Wu, lots of emotion and delicacy

    A mesmerizing performance with a colourful piano sound and a great dynamic range, especially pp and ppp.. Incredible sonority control! Unbelievable that this pianist is so hardly known. Meanwhile Deutsche Grammophone promotes her fellow countrymen Lang Lang, Yuja Wang and Yundi Li who have nothing to say and only spoil music!

    • @fr-tigerfangs7039

      Spot-on comment. Her interpretation of Jeux d'eaux is several layers above competition to the point that Ravel himself seems to be playing when she does.

    @hotbebimauz Yes, the notes were really meant to flow like water. A peacefully flowing water and later a fiery whirlpool which takes the poor fisherman to the clutches of the evil water fairy... great atmosphere thanks to Ravel

  • @MrPaevo

    It is a shame the climax is garbled, especially in light of how sensitively and intimately the rest of the piece is played.

      Indeed. Would be one of the best interpretations if not for that.

    • @Magnet12
      @Magnet12 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      MrPaevo Are u kidding? She clearly did that on purpose to give the listener a shock as the ondine screams and dives back into the sea after failing to seduce them. Played wonderfully.

    • @simonsmatthew
      @simonsmatthew 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Magnet12 I think MrPaevo is not referring to that part at the ending, he is referring to the middle of the piece - where even if it gets to ff, it should still sound beautiful, not 'shocking'. I agree with him, it is too heavy here - and a shame, because it is so beautiful in the beginning.

    I know Maurice was influenced by Edgar Allen Poe and that kind of "dark side," but this piece really scare me. The 'world' it creates is almost too much for me to bare. I've been a music for 70 years. But this work having to do with Gaspard and his adventures through the night... really scares the shi_ out of me. Only a master like Ravel and a willing student like Di could transmogrifate notes into the very astral world as they touch upon what we generally call reality. Congratulation. The ondine... lives "in a kingdom by the sea."

    • @fr-tigerfangs7039
      @fr-tigerfangs7039 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely true. You did your research indeed. This is a very astute and spot-on comment. Even though, what's fascinating in Ravel's work is that he always manages to dissimulate pure power under an outter layer of extreme delicacy. Just like with our feline friends. A bond between opposites, a pure and mesmerizing musical chemistry.

  • @trtnec
    @trtnec 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    great performance but she's cheating on the fingering to make it easier lol, not that that really matters. But it does defeat some of the purpose if you're trying to perfect that technique.

      Especially in Ravel. In Scarbo, I could find a dozen of editions, with vastly different fingerings and many transfers between right and left hands. Whatever works...

    • @vonPunki
      @vonPunki ปีที่แล้ว +1

      --- you probably consider the use of 4th fingers in octave passages as cheating too --- but who cares what you think

    • @trtnec
      @trtnec ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vonPunki lol that's not similar - no point in forcing 5th fingers on octaves, especially black keys, unless your hand size restricts it as such, as it's much less pianistic. A more apt comparison would be using the 3rd/5th on the trills in La Campanella that are meant to be 4/5. But ultimately it was clear my comment was facetious and it's strange that you actually replied to it on top of the fact it was 11 years ago.
