Salam and MashAllah…JazakAllah Alif khairan for being so vulnerable and sharing such a difficult topic. Muslim men are often stereotyped that it’s a sign of weakness to be emotional , when our very own Prophets(s) and Imams(as) cried. It took a lot of courage and strength to share your story and I will be sharing this with many ppl in hopes of the fathers also realizing the impact they can have on their sons and daughters!
Within the first few minutes I already know I’m going to relate to this heavily. Be back after I’m done for my thoughts. Edit: I honestly felt like I was listening to myself talk. I related very much to the brothers struggles. Thank you for this episode and inshallah many will gain insight from it.
Poignant and finally honest portrayal of what it really was like to grow up as an Arab in the Dearborn public school system in the 90s and early 00s. Thank you for sharing, Belal. It’s so important to reflect on these realities rather than pretend they never happened. Middle school was indeed brutal. The peer pressure, whether to conform to white American culture, or to engage in the shenanigans of the Arab trouble-makers, was real. Navigating this time was, and likely still is, a tremendous challenge.
Had the pleasure of interacting with Belal while he was at MUHSEN. A ball of energy, had no idea he had all these struggles. Goes to show how everyone has tests and challenges. Great episode!
