byzantium as a word never existed until modern times and its only purpose is to make it easier to dinstiguish. "Bysantium" never was or will be greek. The only greek thing about it is the language after a point in time. Their customs and everyday life was either roman or anatolian not greek. The only country where they teach the new generation that "byzantium" was greek is in greece. And that is because they were conqueres by them for more than 1000 years and they are butthurt by that!!!!

HellenicNationalist nope they called themselfs romans even 200 years after ottoman conquest.
Greeks today are just romans who embraced greek culture as a national independence movement.
Also turks are technically just muslim greeks.
Also greeks aren't even that greek they nearly have as much as ancient greek blood as someone in syria mb a little more.

Internet Entity Let me make it clear, reason why Turkic small kingdoms joined Ottoman was because of holy war against Byzantine. There were ghazi confederations(those guys were reason how sometimes 1k ottoman defeat 10k austrians) productive economic estates(ahiyan-i rum) these were all basic functions of ottoman government. Ottoman never been ruled by absoulte sultans. It was being ruled by confederative structures since start. Changing religion will make all religious fanatics such as Janissaries ghazi warriors disloyal. If Byzantine would be Muslim, Ottoman would never be strong.
You cannot change religion of a big country without having huge sanctions.

    • @mush3044

Woah this was a nice time-lapse, I'm a Türk but i dont mind a time-lapse like this I'm not angry or anything as others would imagine turks when seeing a video like this, but you didn't have to culture shift to turkish like that it's byzantium after all, but anyways good video and I'm dazzled by your skill.

The Romans began by opening their doors to fugitives from nearby tribes within the Italian peninsula. They also adopted various Greek cuisines and culture itself. And Their main sword, The Gladius wasn't used by the Romans until after its discovery from Iberian peninsula.
The Romans from the start were open to accepting all cultures only to benefit from them such as Carthage and the provinces of North Africa. It was the way the Romans were open to new ideas which gave them power to control the entire Mediterranean sea for more than a thousand years. (They were always open to Adapt to change)
(Also I was responding to a comment which suggest that adopting the culture of the enemy isn't the best way go defeat the enemy but seeing as how it worked in the conquest of Greece and Carthage and Hispania. it is evident that being able to adapt to circumstances is a key factor in maintaining a strong empire which The Byzantine at this point couldn't due to religious pride and military aspects.
The early Romans were dominant in terms military due to their ability to acknowledge the moment to adapt and change whilst the Byzantine empire couldn't at their time
