*PLEASE NOTE* : After I recorded this video, I learned that many Foil Quill users are getting great results with much lower speed and pressure settings (in the 3 to 5 range for both) than the default material settings that I've been starting with, so be sure to experiement to see which settings work best for you.

I think for solid images like the Good Luck, medium tip worked best, it covered more area than the fine tip. But for the other 2 artworks, fine tips looks amazing!

Thanks so much, Lakegirl! I'm in the process of testing the Foil Quill with a bunch of different brands of foil and am planning on releasing a video with my results in the next couple of weeks. So far, Minc results have been mixed, and I've had great results with the Spellbinders Glimmer Foil. :)

Regina Helena Regina - Glad that you liked the video! I used a speed setting of 10 in this video but have since found out that many people are using much lower speed and force settings (in the 3 to 5 range) and are getting great results, too.

Does anyone know how I can get the thick font foil with cricut?
Other than application, what is the difference between this and the laminator/laser printer process? Is it worth it?
LE Paper Studio - The two big differences that I see between the Foil Quill and laminator/laser printer process are:
1) the Foil Quill can cleanly foil papers and surfaces (like leather and wood, though to be fair I haven't tried these surfaces yet) that are problematic or not possible to either print on or foil cleanly with a laminator. For example, I haven't been able to cleanly foil the black cardstock that I used in the video with the laminator/laser printer method, but the Foil Quill results are great. Same goes for uncoated and textured papers like watercolor paper. You can use the glue pen + foil method (shown in this video: th-cam.com/video/3sM72JUKyIY/w-d-xo.html ) or some other medium (like the Deco Foil Transfer Gel), but with the Foil Quill you don't have to worry about dry time, and it can create finer and more crisp lines (the fine tip, at least).
2) for those who have a die cutting machine but no laser printer and/or laminator, they don't need to invest possibly hundreds of dollars to be able to foil more complex designs.
Is it worth it? I think it depends. If you want to foil thicker lettering and, generally, designs with a mix of filled shapes and thick and thin lines - then the laminator/laser printer is the better way to go, imo. If you already have a Minc/laminator/laser printer, you really don't need the Foil Quill.
However, if you like sketch/outline style designs and thin, crisp lines, then the Foil Quill is a really nice option, especially for those who have a die cutting machine but don't want to invest in a new printer and laminator or those who don't have lots of space for additional machines. I also like that the Foil Quill presses into the paper/cardstock as its foiling and creates a little bit of a debossed effect, which gives the foiled design some texture.

Great video! I preordered mine from my local craft store but just found out the shipment will be delayed until May. Could you do a test to see how well it works with other brands of foil? Like Deco Foil and Minc?

Hello, do you have a foiling output using cricut machine?
Hi, Aika! Yes, the Foil Quill does have an adapter for the Cricut, so you can use it to foil with Cricut machines.
Does this work with vellum paper?
Yes
will it work with the old machine of silhouette.
Stud Stud - It should work in any of the Silhouette machines that use the current ratchet blade and/or autoblade. I still have an original Cameo machine and just tested the Foil Quill in that, and it fit into the tool holder without a problem.
Does ANYONE know how to use the quills with the Cricut maker in a way that it can make a thicker line??? Like the “good luck” lettering..... in cricut design space it will make an outline so I can’t have a filled in shape!!! PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!!
Claire Volger - Unfortunately, Cricut Design Space doesn't have sketch fill options like Silhouette Studio, so it's more challenging to make the fills for shapes. I've been trying to make fill patterns in Adobe Illustrator that will work in Design Space, but so far I haven't had much luck except with very small areas (like the dots on "i") because the fills are such complex shapes that they crash the software. I think that designing the fills in software outside Design Space is the best answer at this point, but the question is how to get a solid fill pattern without crashing Design Space? If I figure it out, I'll definitely make a video about it!
Kristen // k.becca Dear Kristen, yes my question is how to get a solid fill pattern in design space when using the Quills! :) I tried it again today but unfortunately it didn’t work. I tried making the shape smaller in Illustrator so the outlines will be closer to each other. If you have figured it out, please let me know :D. And vise versa of course ;)

You are going way too fast, I don’t have the Cameo 3, I have the 2 and my heat plate doesn’t slide in like yours.
