  • This video is Inspired by Nick Bantock through creating Faux Postage and faux seals on the mail art postcards we created in part one ( • Inspired By Nick Banto... )
    This Inspired By series is inspired by Nick Bantock of Griffin and Sabine fame. He is a celebrated collage artist, illustrator and author, and his books are like walking into a mysterious wonderland of secrets and hand written mail. This series of videos (3 in total) explore his style over mail art in the form of postcards (part 1: • Inspired By Nick Banto... , Faux postage and seals (part 2) and putting all the elements together to create a book within a book (part 3: • Inspired by Nick Banto... ). I hope you enjoy this look into the world of collage and mail art combined.

    What a treasure! Found you a few months back and enjoying seeing your work. My sister and I know when we pass, anything we have will be trashed, so we are using, selling, giving to friends and donating to our historical society so maybe, someone will remember us and our parents and the ones who walked before us. Love that you are using the beautiful words and art instead of it sitting in a bin.

    I think a sewing tracing wheel could be used to make the perforations. Gotta try this now! Great video.

      Yep - I used the sewing tracing wheel and got very good results - of course a sewing machine with no thread set to the correct stitch size also gives good results -

      Hello again Niamh, THANK YOU so much for replying to my comment, It means a lot that you found time to do this. I have just watched the second and last in your series of three Postage inspired by Nick Bantock art, themed videos and love, love love them all sooooo much. THANK YOU too for introducing me to Nick's amazing work, I have just ordered two of his books from french amazon so will be looking forward to them arriving later this week.
      I am hoping to make some time today, or later in the week to have a go at making some faux postage stamps too.
      I love creating Mail Art envelopes and have in the past joined in with a few swaps which were such fun to do. I still have a number of envelopes that can be used for swaps so will look into seeing if there are any Mail Art swaps going on, if not I may just mail them to myself so that they have real cancellation postage marks on them then I can use them in my art. LOL
      Warmest best wishes from France,
      Su

    Had to click when I saw N Bantock. A trip back in time and with the postage as well. I get postage paper from 100 Proof Press just because I tend to be lazy about that stage of production. Too bad it's kinda been forgotten. So much fun and a great way to use small bits

      Which one gives the more accurate look? The serrated or needle point one? The needle point i can only seem to find in 4mm spacing which seems a bit much and I really want to spend as little as possible. The serrated ones seem more common. Can you give me some input? It was hard enough finding this option on my own, lots of googling and researching but now I dont know which type to get

    • @kerryd59
      @kerryd59 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PewPewCat definitely the serrated one, Birch and clover do them and they are readily available online, there is also another brand used for leather work that looks like the the little teeth are closer. I have the birch one.

    Niamh, thank you so much for sharing this process video. I LOVE Nick Bantock and you've created a wonderful homage to his art. I am newish to mail art and you've totally inspired me to give this a go. I am very interested in the Collections rubber stamps you mentioned. Am keen to find them on eBay but my searches aren't bringing up the stamps. Would you kindly share the title of the listing you saw them under please - if you can remember? Hey Seaville www.shophandmade.com/Item/Nick-Bantock-Limited-Edition-Pelicos-Mail-Art-Stamp-Set/H52C464
      Here is a link to a set of Nick Bantock stamps. I can’t find the collection ones anymore, but if you search mail art rubber stamps, there are lots of choices out there. If you find someone who has been stamping for a while in oz (over 15 years) they may have that set in there collection- it was everywhere back in the day🤣 mail art is so much fun- I’m glad you’re going to have a go. Sorry with two small kids, I don’t get to craft shows as much as I used to and living in tassie makes it harder to get places cheaply. But I am running away next weekend to Melbourne to hang out with Dina wakley for some art classes 😊
