I am huge type VII fan ,but type IX has special place in my heart!! I just ordered one of this kit for myself and should start build new room in house ,because i am runing out of space!! I didnt expect it to be that colosal!!
This was a decent build, as was another sub I did, the Das Werk U9 WW1 Uboat (just weeks into the war, U9 famously sank three British cruisers: Aboukir, Kressy, and Hogue).
Why do you think they've done the hull in multiple parts? Their 1/72 Type VII c UBoat hull came in 2 parts only (in an admittedly large box), but I reckon it's less of a faff to put together than this, and no unecessary seam either.
Multi part hulls are usually due to limitations in the design of the mould to ensure detail is full and reduce chances of warp. Only expert tool makers are able to make large moulds without fit issues.
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne , actually, I do not know. I must ask: I "obviously know more than [I] let on"? Have I made an offence? My apologies if you felt so. I have not been feeling well, and much as I enjoy reading, I have been too weary to chase it.
Not a submarine 😅 they were boats / surface ships . The submarine translation got used by the allies so people just called them subs. But they did make way for the evolution of actual submarines
Yes. The German word for this type of vessel is "Unterseeboot", translating literally as "under sea boat," which confirms your assessment. (BTW, the German word "boot" roughly sounds like its English cognate.)
I try to stay positive for the most part, but this unboxing / review was terrible, BJ should have done it. BJ does them better. This review seemed a bit rushed.

Yes, this is big! Good luck with your build!

Definitely a beefing kit. The U9 is pretty cool.

@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne , thanks. I like learning what I do not know or understand.
Nice submarine 👍
It sure is!

What would serve as a suitable adversary in the same scale?
Hello David! The US Gato class would be suitable I think. It is of the same period and made by Revell in 1/72 scale.
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne The Gato against a DKM Typ VIIc German U-Boat? How would the two have met halfway round the world from one another?
Dunno, I'm not an expert. Perhaps you should do your own research as you obviously know more than you let on.

Type IX U-boats were tested to a submerged depth of 230m so definitely submarines.

Thank you for your feedback. BJ will be back doing reviews in the future.
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne You're Welcome. I look forward to seeing them done again with BJ.
This kit is crap. The forward dive planes are too far forward. Which ruins the entire kit.
Thank you for the feedback!
