You gotta turn - but the right way

- This video is about the rotation in the golf swing. So many Golfers are struggling with the turn - why? First because they think the turn in a wrong way and and then they also do it too much. The issue of moving the head up and down, mostly is result of this as well. Thanks to the hula hoop tire, it's fantastic to visually demonstrate. In this video, I clarify why the head moves so much for many people, why the rotation is rather counterproductive for most. Take a look, I'm sure a penny or two will drop!
Enjoy and have fun practicing !! - กีฬา
I have been in the golf business for over 35 years and have worked with some of the "top" instructors. And this is by far one of the best visual lessons I have EVER seen about a proper turn with the hula hoop! Absolutely FANTASTIC!
Wow Pat, what nice lines to read. Glad I could bring up a new idea. Hopefully I can keep up with my following videos :)
excellent
Spine angle remains.
@@jameswirth3117 Absolutely!
Great instructor! Thanks
40 years playing golf 1st time I see a fantastic demonstration of the swing turn Thanks
Practise it in front of a mirror, its always different! After with a club in a x-arms position, add a club and feel how different it really is. Its the same for me all the time....
Great Mam understand very clearly 🙏🏻
I like the way she looks, talks and explains. All very natural, logical and easy to understand.
Thanks a lot, appreciate it a lot!
Simply brilliant demonstration for the benefit of golfers struggling to gain a decent swing. You are awesome
Very sweet, thank you!!!
No one has ever explained the proper shoulder turn to me as clearly as you Martina. Thank you!!
Thats great news! I am glad I could get it across more understandable for you!
Plain and simple, excellent explanation, thanks Martina
You are welcome, glad you like it!
I am a golf coach and I have sent link to this video to my students in Birmingham England. Great visual
Thanks Christopher, means a lot to me!
Demonstrating the correct turn with the hula hoop is outstanding. Very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you Alan! Did you try it yourself?
@@martina_eberl_coaching_en I’ve not tried it, as I do not have a hula hoop. Seeing the plane the hula hoop needs to stay on is a great visual of what we should do. I may have to buy one, video my rotation, and see the plane I create myself.
Thank you, Martina! Your videos are excellent!
Using the hula hoop showed so clearly how to turn. The best demonstration of how to turn that I have ever seen.. Excellent... Thank you.
You are welcome Kevin! Glad you like it!
Thank you so much for the instruction. I went to the range and saw immediate distance gain with each club and more centered contact on the clubface. Oh , nice guns by the way !
Wow, thats great news! And thanks :)
I watched this video and drove to my course within an hour. I played eighteen holes using your instructions. Worked great on every hole! Best lesson ever! Thank you.
Thats great news! Keep going!
I was a strong competitive tennis player but really struggled with golf until recently. After years of listening to golf professionals, reading books ,etc. my swing looked like I was trying to kill a poisonous snake with a club. It was so stiff, so inconsistent, I quit playing for years at a time out of frustration. Last year I decided to give it one more try by throwing out everything I had seen and heard about the golf swing and incorporate the natural feelings and motion of my tennis swing. Your video is the exact transition I ended up with. I was pleased to see the confirmation, as well as the positive results that have me enjoying the game for the first time in years.
Thanks a lot for sharing your story! I am happy I could confirm what you started out of your instinct. Keep going. Thanks for supporting my new channel.
"throwing out everything I had seen and heard about the golf swing"...You're on the right track now!

I am a senior golfer and along with this I have some physical issues. When I saw this video the light came on! I found the movements easy and less stressful on my upper body.
I feel that following this instruction that my body moves much better and I am able to swing a lot smoother and with better tempo. Just brilliant!
Thank you Martina you are an awesome instructor!
Thank you Toni for your nice words. I am really happy that I could help so many people also in the health area... Keep going and stay tuned!
Agreed…I have never heard it explained so simple…I always focused on a waist turn. Look forward to practicing this move.
Brilliantly simple, no nonsense demonstration of the turn in the golf swing. After watching so many other demonstrations of the shoulder turn, this is clearly the best and most impressive of all. Wonderful.
Thank you very much Peter! Hope you like the upcoming videos as well!
agree
by far you’re the clearest golf instructor
Thank you very much! Trying my best!
I’ve been over the top for 15 years and this just made a lightbulb 💡 turn on! Best video on the internet thank you so much
Oh that's so nice to read dear Georgia, thank you! I am so glad I could help!
I am wanting to get my wife into golf, now that I'm in my older years, ( I am about to turn 70,) and I have never loved my golf so much, and if there is ONE thing golf, you have to get fairly good at, we all know its the golf swing. Your explaination of this important aspect of golf is excellent, (and I have seen many golf tuition videos,) I am going to make sure my wife watches this video, so at least I will know she will be of to good start. As the people say below, a truely excellent demonstration of how you should work on your swing. Thank you.
this is one of the best explanations and tutorials ive seen on this topic
Thank you!!!
Most TH-cam golf instructional videos are very inapplicable to most swings. This is one of the best videos I’ve seen and it explains a concept that’s very difficult to clarify but she does an excellent job. This is a must concept to understand in any successful golf swing.
Thank you so much for your nice words. Glad you see my explanation as very helpful!
The main reason why I watch LPGA…..she’s a clear example…..the most important move with your irons and the best exercise to achieve it. Simple, practical, you can practice everywhere… no man guru instructor give away that simple advice. Thank you Lady
ErEf, Montréal , Canada
Thank you so much for your nice words. Trying to keep it simple! How is the Golfing in Canada now? I guess its also more indoor?
It’s a strange winter ( Senior El Niño ) so freezing rain, cold, warm …some snow…my alpine ski is in slow motion these days. So Gym 3 x a week, 3 x indoor easy swing. My country club is closed since 2 months already ( Club de golf de l’île de Montréal. CGIM .) but spring is in next 4 months.
Martina keep your good work and Merry X-mass…Joyeux Noël 🎅
@@aliasErEf Merry Christmas to you too! Maybe one day I can visit Canada. Have never been there...
Fantastic visual with the Hula hoop! Light finally came on.
Glad that helps you!
This is precisely what i am struggling with as a total newbie to golf. I love the game and have really taken to it but comprehending what my instructor is trying to tell me and how to replicate it is frustrating! The hoop was very helpful and I may buy one for myself. Thank you, I am subbing to your channel.
Sometimes you only need different words or a pictures to understand! Very happy I could help you!
Excellent Martina. Thank you so much for posting this. The visual cues are really valuable.
You are welcome Jason. Glad it could help you! Let me know how it works out for you, trying out this visual picture!
As a single digit hcp I’m absolutely smacked at how GREAT this lesson is! What a super demonstration! Like several of the commenters said-simple, graphic and most effective! Will definitely practice this and explains exactly what I need to work on!! Will definitely subscribe! Many Thanks!!
Thanks Karl! Well my goal is, that really every Golfer gets its content out of my videos. There might be some tipps for only advanced ones, but hey, how often do we need to correct the grip, which is step number one for beginners :)... With Golfer, things keep repeating and correcting never ends :). Glad I could help you and thanks for subscribing!
I look at this lesson every month to remind myself how to create a real turn. Bravo Martina!
Thanks for the valuable demonstration! It was amazing to see the simplicity of the correct motion! Wishing you well & big smile!
Thank you very much!
WHOA! The hoop explained so much instantly!!
Very happy you like the idea of the hoop!
@@martina_eberl_coaching_enThe best example I have ever seen and easy to follow. Thank you so much
Great visual and actual description of how to turn Martina, thank you🙏
You are welcome Brian!
I am a one-armed golfer and I at times struggle with consistency of contact and direction, not with distance as many would assume (my drives often fly past 250). I think the main reason for this inconsistency is that I indeed often turn "the wrong way", which with my slightly less constrained biomechanics tends to happen even faster than with average players. But today I got back to making many pars again :)
>250 is very impressive!!!
其实您只要會打目標線内侧球,不要打成外侧就算標準了。
That’s friggin incredible. Much respect.
Wow, sorry to get back to you so late! That is really impressive and huge respect that you are playing the game! Very cool to know, that I could help you a bit!
Very well done!! Best I've ever seen at clearly describing and providing visual cus for the proper shoulder/hip rotation in the golf swing. Thank you for sharing.
You are very welcome!
Thank you, Martina, that is the best demonstration of how to turn I have ever seen, brilliant, well done for sharing.
Thanks Thomas!
It took me 20 years to learn this 😩 and I’m still learning. I was doing a flat turn (turning my shoulders in a parallel line) and no one ever told me that I was doing it all wrong! i’ve had at least 8 teachers over the years. this is a very important video! got to get that shoulder tilt!
Just try to get it more towards the ball. It's still a turn... Step by Step!
Amazing demonstration, one of the best i ve seen in 50 years of golf, keep on Martina.
@@michaelmoody9097 Very nice of you to say this! I am happy so many of you like this demonstration!
It’s insane how most instructors don’t address the foundations of the swing and biomechanics
@@rk-jc9se Well a lot are very focused on the club and want to change a ballflight over the clubmovement. But its much more...
The illustrations is great, it gives a clear swing process and understanding of the take away and uncoil swing delivery. Thanks!
Thanks for commenting!
This was an incredible lesson! thank you for sharing this with us. Your hula hoop example really made it easier to see.
Happy you like it! Thanks for letting me know!
Thank you for sharing this great, vivid instruction. I am headed to the golf range now to try it out. I appreciate your expertise and training visual with the hula hoop!!
And, how did it work for you eventually?
Martina, this was one of the best explanation videos on the golf Turn that I have ever seen. I absolutely am a "stand up" turner. I will focus on keeping down and turning, not stand up & pivot. The hula hoop was the key to this demonstration. Thank you!
You are welcome! Let me know how it works for you!
感恩您!使分更清楚正確的転身的方法,解除了我幾十年的疑惑,我照您教的練習,現在球路又直又遠又準。再次謝謝您!求上主賜福您和家中各人!
非常感謝!很高興我的影片對您有所幫助!
I have been playing golf for 30 years and have always had a problem with the turn - I think this lesson is brilliant
Steve
Thank you Steve! I beat you with 6 years more... But I totally understand how you feel. Even I am wondering a lot, if I do it well enough myself...
Wow! This is amazing, I’ve been watching tons of videos over the last year because I’ve come back to golf and feel lost with where I should be with my arms and torso because I’m cutting across the ball. This is the first video I’ve seen which explains it , thank you 🙏
I am glad I could help you that much! Let me know if you can put it in your swing!
This is the best explanation I have seen by any instructor. Thank you!
Thanks for the nice comment! You are very welcome!
Been working on this and it's getting there. You have given me some very good ideas to work on. I'm sure I will have to see this again to ingrain that feeling.
Thats nice to hear - well done!!!
The most helpful video that I have seen in quite some time. I used this approach on the course and am starting to see immediate dividends. Thank you!!
Wow, thats great news!!! Happy for you!
This is seriously the most important video you can watch to improve your game. I took this to the course six months ago and my ball striking was immediately 60% improved. I rarely thin any shot now and this was a huge problem for me prior to this. She is an exceptional teacher.
Thank you so much Charles! Very nice to read! Happy my idea works so well for you! Keep going!!!!
This is an EXCELLENT video and made so much sense to me. Thank you will try it this weekend.
Thank you! Let me know how it works!!!
Finally a good explanation of how to turn , it finally helped me hit my irons, after years of lifting up in my back swing. Thank you.
You are welcome Patrice!
This is fantastic teaching with great visuals. The correct shoulder turn as demonstrated here will absolutely eliminate early extension,it has to! It makes early extending impossible. But this does take a lot of practice and repetition,no doubt. Old habits die hard. Thank you very much for this video.
Thanks for your comment, and you are very welcome!
Very nice tips, as a beginner golfer ive been struggling to hit the ball consistently and i will try this on the range for sure. Thank you.
Good luck Jonas! Great that you started playing!
This is absolutely the best video & explanation I have ever seen. I have been turning when I should be tilting and lifting...the hula hoop example nailed it and makes it make sense! Thank you Martina!😃😃😃
Thanks for this nice comment Tony! Good luck with this idea!
Excellent advice and demonstration! Can't wait to try it out. Thank you!
You are welcome! Just let me know how it works for you!
This is super! Thanks for making it in English to share with my daughter!
You are welcome Bob! After six years in German, it's time to think bigger :). Glad you like it!
Great explanation along with visual representation> please do more videos !!! Thank you.
Thanks John! I will certainly do! Tell your friends about this channel... The bigger the community the more time I can invest!
Really struggling with my irons lately and this video has helped tremendously. All I'm focusing on is a proper turn and I'm flushing everything. Incredible stuff here.
Very nice of you Jimmy! Glad I could help!
Thank you Martina, no one on youtube has demonstrated the turn as well as you. I thought I was doing the turn correctly but thanks to you I can make the correction. I hope your channel grows quickly.
I was thinking that myself for many many years....
I agree with the previous comment - I think this is the best explanation and demonstration of turn I’ve seen. Thanks Martina!!
Thank YOU! Very nice to hear!
Thank you, Martina!! This was a great video and it has helped me quite a bit. Your way of explaining everything made perfect sense and was easy to understand. I cannot wait to go the the course and try exactly what you said. John
Thanks John, glad I could help you so much! Made my day!
Excellent demonstration of proper swing mechanics
Thank you!
I’ve used thought of chest going towards the ground as turn back to help stay in spine angle. I used to come up and out of spine angle on backswing and get laid off at top. Feeling chest going down helped a lot. Love the hula hoop usage here. Great visuals. Very well done.
I am glad that helps you! For an early extension with your hip and body, I will help you also with another video!
Thank you SO MUCH. I've been overwhelmed with so many other swing thoughts, but unless you turn as you say, nothing else matters.
Well, its great if it works for you so well!!!
Great swing lesson Marina! Thank you!
Thank YOU and you are very welcome!
The best explanation ever. Thank you very, very much!!!!!!
Thank you very much! I that a German name?
Great description of the turn. You make it sound like golf is easy 😄😄 I've been finding the middle of my irons much more often since I tried this idea - it's worked so well for me. Vielen Dank Martina!
Thats superb, makes me very happy!
Very clear and simple instructions! Thank you 😊
You are very welcome!
I believe your emphasis on the tilted turn becoming a horizontal one may be the answer to my pulling the ball. Seeing the hula hoop in action made me understand your thinking. I’m looking for a hula hoop tomorrow. Thank you Martina.
You don't necessarily need a hula hoop! Just put a club in front of you crossing your arms and turn the clubhead towards the ball and then the grip!
I’ve never seen it explained this way, and with the hula hoop visual this lesson leads others in showing proper swing motion.
I am glad to show you a new way with my video!
A great lesson and makes it easy to understand. Will try your tips. Thanks Martina!
You are welcome Elizabeth! How did it eventually work out for you?
Thank you! Turning my shoulders at the correct angle has always been an issue for me, indeed, I’ve tried explaining my problem to a few instructors and never felt they understood what I was talking about. Now I understand it, thanks to this great video. Whether I can do it is another thing, but at least I understand it now!🙂
Thats my goal by explaining. It's hard to follow instructions, if you actually don't know why and how it really works...
Thank you Martina, you absolutely nailed my issue... gratitude!
Wow thats great news, glad I could help! Let me know how it works!
I agree with a previous comment. This is by far the best explanatory lesson on turning. Martina is a superb Coach also on other aspects of golf.
:) Thank you very much!
simple and great tip/explanation for all golfers - good mix of what & why
Thank you very much! Trying my best to keep it simple - as in all the other videos too.
Brillant . Clear very physiological explanation and Demonstration . Many Thanks
You are welcome!!
I've been working on my shoulder turn since my last lesson in March and it just didn't feel right. Looked at tons of shoulder turn videos on youtube and still didn't feel right UNTIL I came across this one! Martina explains the shoulder turn like no other! Practiced at home for a few days per her drills then took it to the course this past weekend, what a difference!! THANK YOU MARTINA!!!!
Thats awesome! Glad I could help!!!
This just sums up what I don’t do. Feels so different but so really clear. Awesome. Thanks.
You are welcome!
Thanks so much for your video. Love your concepts, helped me very much to regain my swing. You make it simple!
You are very welcome! Well to make it look more simple is my goal for you guys. Golf is complicated but also super logical in some ways. I have an order to explain it in a different way!
You rock! Best tip ive had so far! Amazing
Thank you so much! Hope I can bring you many more "best tips" :)
Martina - a great way to explain the difference between “turn” and “rotate” - especially when “shoulder down” is dismissed as
S&T witchery and the “new way” is stay centered and turn/turn/turn hard! Love it!!!❤
Thank you very much!
When I try shoulder down, shoulder pointing towards the ball, left next flexing down (slightly - hard to judge when I am swinging) - I feel like I always chunk and can't get through. Where am I going wrong here (obviously big question without giving video).
Well done Martina! Bravo! Excellent description of the turn. You are also showing a good example of early extension or coming out of the shot. Many amateurs including myself are guilty of that. Also, I really like the segment of what you are thinking as you address the ball. Not thinking turn but left shoulder down and than right shoulder down. I’m sure this video will be very helpful to a lot of people. Thank you!
You are welcome and thank you too!
Gold. Best instruction I have ever seen. And it works a treat…best part is when I’m hitting poor shots I know why and go back to this.
Thank you for sharing and your nice words! I am glad I could help!
Thanks Martina and for excellent explanation and advice, God bless you and for sharing those excellent tips
Thanks Lea!
Thank you, I've been really struggling, this is something I can use. It feels more like I'm slapping the ball, weak hit starts right and keeps going more right.
BTW, Nice guns!, much respect.
Thanks :). Glad I could help you! Let me know if it gets better!
the hoola hoop plane visual is a game changer
super, glad I could give you a different picture!
Great lesson, will be getting myself a hula hoop for sure. Thank you.
Great idea Mark, send me a picture once you got it. We can build up a hula hoop group :) Enjoy getting the right feeling!
Brilliant! The hoop picture paints a thousand words.
Thank you, happy you like the idea!
What a brilliant tip/lesson, really made good sense to me, and the hula hoop visual - best ever🙂
Thank you!!
Great video, removes a lot of muddled thoughts about how the shoulders move. Thank you
You are welcome! How did it work for you after all?
This is such a great way to explain the turn. Thank you
Glad you like it!
Hi Martina, Great instruction. I've used your turn/tilt method on the range after watching your video and the difference is amazing. I became too upright and was hitting from out to in. Now I'm more tilted at the waist and turning the shoulders on a steeper plain allowing the club to stay on plain on the downswing. The results are really good. It's easy to fall in to bad habits. I've had a few lessons over the years from various instructors but you are really clear. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Well done. Brian
Thanks for sharing Brian, this is brilliant! Super happy that it works for you! It happens to my as well to get too upright now and then...
Makes sense! Thank you for the video. I did try this evening and my drives were straighter.
Awesome, congrats!!! Glad I could help!
Simply brilliant!
Thank you!
Spot on. The sensation is closer to a tilt. Very clear explanation 😊
Thank you! Glad you like it!
Excellent instruction regarding the proper shoulder positions in the golf swing. Very detailed and clearly explained. Cheers 🙌
Thanks for your nice feedback!
i turned too flat or not at all for years until i figured it out and help from youtube. this is a good lesson and i know it's gonna help, thnx.
You are welcome! Let me know how the turn works for you!
Hello from Thailand, Martina, your technical method of turning really works well for me. Just went and tried it on a driving range today. Trying to figure it out for a while but couldn’t find why it didn’t work. Thanks for helping me to enjoy my game more🎉❤.
A warm welcome to Thailand! Glad I can reach you all even if you are so far away - magic and I love it! Glad I could help you!
What an amazing video and visual guide. thanks!
Thank you very much! Glad you like it!
This is an excellent visual of the shoulder tilt…I saw a more technical version in which the actual angle of the shoulders, relative to the horizontal ground, of several top pros were measured and it was around 42 degrees in the backswing and 52 degrees in the downswing! Once you know that, you look at these pros in a different way!
Totally agree! I didn't know the numbers. 52 is more than I thought but very helpful, thanks!
Have seen several videos of the turn like you show but never have really seen how bad it looks when it becomes too flat without staying in your posture. Excellent explanation when using the hula hoop. Will give it a try next outing 👍👍
I am sure it didn't look as bad as I demonstrated it :). Let me know how it works for you!
Great job explaining the turn! Thank you!
Thanks Sharon, hope I could help!
She is a brilliant instructor great explanation on the golf turn
Thank you so much George!
Thank you Martina. This really helped me make a swing correction.
Super, glad I could help!
Clear and concise instruction. More please.
Thank you - there is much more to come! Promised!
Great instructional video! Do this 10-15 times everyday to ingrained it into your swing!
Thank you! And, did you do it regularly ?
