    Simple but crucially important. My right shoulder comes out and I cut across the ball every shot. I hit anything from a straight pull to a snap hook. I'm hoping this bears fruit.

    An absolutely essential lesson that has helped my swing tremendously..especially on the driver! Thank you so much for explaining this in a very straight forward manner. I am now hitting my drives 230-250+ where I was only 190 to 215. Hitting them straight too! I definitely wasn't brining my right shoulder back enough. Right on brotha!

    Good advice. I have found that I need to keep my head up, while still looking at the ball, in order to get my left shoulder under my chin. If my head is down and my chin is almost touching my chest, my left shoulder doesn't have room to rotate fully and tends to push me off the ball. I noticed that you keep your elbows close together throughout the swing, too. That helps to get the right shoulder moving correctly on the downswing.

  • @davidmeeks7449
    @davidmeeks7449 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    He’s the best. Teaches cause and effect really well. What this shows is if you get the right shoulder deep enough it actually makes it easier to shift the lower body toward the target instead of “fake rotation” - not getting deep enough leads to not being patient and triggers spinning out with the lower body as a recovery move, losing a huge power source.

  • @yukonj2567
    @yukonj2567 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @davee3951
    @davee3951 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've found that thinking about turning and tilting the chest, rather than the shoulders, works better for me. My focal point for the back swing and start of the downswing is my trail side pec. I trigger the downswing with a tug of the lead side oblique which starts a move of the trail side pec down and towards the ball. Borrowing from one of your excellent previous videos, I picture the downswing, as a race between the lead side and the trail pec. Getting the trail side more involved in the downswing, has helped me a lot with all ground shots.

    Great video Kerrod. Interestingly, I suffer from this problem and have a major hook. I think my right shoulder gets so stuck on the way down that it slams to my body and my wrists just turn over hard. I have always had a weak turn through the ball. People try to fix it with hip rotation but never explained it from a "top" of the swing standpoint and better rotation going back. I will give this a try on the range. Any other advice for people that hook would be appreciated ( I don't slice the ball that much).
    Thanks again for the video!!

    Your videos are very helpful and get to the point which is way most are around the backswing and downswing feel and not about quick fixes. I feel if your backswing fundamentals are out you will always be trying to correct your swing path in the downswing every shot. As of 2 weeks ago when a low handicap player at the range pointed out that i have a slight reverse pivot backswing which is a bad habit i fall into. Anyway i decided to go and fix it in the past 2 weeks, gathered a bunch of checkpoints from your videos that i now i practice in the mirror. Wide arching pushing feeling with the arms, hips back and up, head doesn't dip, weight on back foot and my swing has got more consistent and i'm hitting 10-15m further on each club. Downswing is pretty natural for me so haven't really needed to change that. The only thing i noticed creep in was if i don't turn enough the ball now goes right (This video explains it well) where as with a reverse pivot i was getting more of a hooking action. Driver is also so much easier to hit. I kind of wish there were coaches like you in Brisbane but have yet to find one. Perth is a bit of a hike if i wanted to get lesson with you :P

    Good stuff. I think telling people to never move laterally is an issue. So they just spin and come over the top. I notice more and more that good golfers do actually shift their weight laterally when dropping that club. Morikawa moves 6-8” laterally while rotating and keeping his head/chest at it behind the ball.

    It seems that simply, the path of the right shoulder in the downswing retraces the path it took in the backswing.

    Your clubhead definitely stays behind the hands when you drop your shoulder as apposed to coming over the top so to speak , I've been seriously struggling with timing tempo and weight shift , is it possible this move would allow me time to transfer my weight more on my lead foot and sync everything up more naturally

    I am in the garden doing exactly what you say but keep hitting the ground just before the ball. What am I not doing?

    I think before you FEEL the trail shoulder dropping, you have to FEEL the lead shoulder dropping if only slightly. Am I mistaken?

    Still not sure why I get in this wrong position which in turn causes the over the top action. Is it to avoid the 'strangle' effect in the backswing so swing trying to keep the arms more out in front of me?

      Hi, kingshearer2! This video can definitely help with this!

    It really depends. For players with tendency to get dumped under, this is exactly the opposite advice from what they need. There are plenty of amateur golfers who get way too much trail side bend too early in transition, for whom the feeling of the the trail shoulder working directly out and down to the ball.

    Good lesson. But...cut to the quick. Forget about the first several moments devoted to what most do wrong. Just get to the fix. From the fix forwards...excellent video.

    This is exactly what I do but if I try your movement I end up dumping the club into the ground miles behind the ball or deliver the club face wide open for a mega slice.

      Hitting the ground before the ball was solved for me by working on the body turn. When I did that, it usually meant that my arms were outrunning my body - out of sync essentially.
