@@todd.parker Here's my update: I plugged my Victron in to power it, no luck. Plugged in the house extension cord, no luck again - screen stayed stuck showing 88. I took a 4mm hex wrench and undid the 4 long bolts holding the two yellow handles down. The moment I lifted the cover, the display came back on and everything worked as normal. Is there a microswitch inside the lid? I took some detailed photos and will place on my website tonight. The very surprising thing is that the components inside were exceptionally clean - no dust or dirt inside! We carry our Goal Zero Yeti 1000 in our van everywhere for the past 3.5b years and 130,000km over dusty roads too. I'm very impressed with the overall quality of this unit! Thanks for the timely tip!
THANK YOU!!! My 1000 either froze or was getting overcharged when we left it at a cabin around 9000'. It was totally unresponsive with no lights coming on anywhere. Your suggestion of reseting the power with those wires did the trick!!!
I have a 3 year old GZ Yeti 1000 that bricked. Soft reset with the buttons didn't work. I was shopping for a new unit until I found this video. Back in business, thank you!
Thanks for doing this series about the GZ 1000L, I just got mine yesterday after being a longtime GZ 400 owner. I tried using the included power brick and then added the brick from the 400 and got a total of 120w charging. I will be adding an array of 400w solar mono panels next and running that through the mppt controller I've already installed. Excited to see how it all works.
Nice, you can combine up to 4 of those power bricks, or go with the fats charger. I really like the 1000, it's small but has enough capacity and am inverter that can power pretty much anything. You'll have fun watching all my Yeti 1000 videos!
Looking forward to part 2 of this series - going in from the base plate. The wifi stopped working on my Yeti 1400 Lithium. The soft reset didn't fix the problem. Goal Zero customer support suggested disconnecting/reconnecting the battery and the comm connection at the base of the Yeti through the bottom plate. So, I'm going to wait for part 2! Thanks again.
Oh interesting. I assumed those wires were to communicate from the BMS to the main controller but wasn't sure. It's an easy job - just unscrew all the phillips at the bottom and cover lifts right off. You'll see a small wiring harness right on the side of the battery.
Great video. My yeti 1000 has blown out many times...I full-time rv, use every day last 18 mos,. And most times when I do the double press to reset it comes back on ok, but it takes longer (sometimes several hrs) for it to remember what the % was before it restarted. Also, my yeti push button for AC plugs gets crooked and will not go on and off, so you can take off lid like you showed, and you can gently reposition the plastic push button peg to work again...have done that several times..so now I just leave all my push buttons on ( only uses 2-4 watts for all buttons on with a MV plugged in). Thanks again..I have not encountered the problem you had...yet!
Guessing it's just a matter of time! I do appreciate how easy it is to open these up and make small adjustments. I still like Goal Zero's products, just wish they did a better job supporting customers with the bumps in the road. Their support is good but they could document these fixes somewhere.
Fantastic content! I wish Goal Zero (and other "solar generator" companies) would just put this stuff front and center. I'm kind of shocked they are only using the 45A Andersons internally, but I guess I don't know what their battery series/parallel configuration is internally, so maybe it's fine. Can't wait to see the tear down!
Yeah, I've had lots of people find my other reset video and be super stressed out because it didn't work. Rather than have people mail 50 pound lithium batteries around, why not have a hard reset switch or at least make a video on how to do this. I just ended up in a bad state and decide to see if I could figure it out but this is a super simple fix. Guessing it all comes down to liability...they don't want someone opening this and getting hurt but why not add a breaker or switch on the outside to do this?

My experience is similar but wasn’t able to bring my 1000 back to life until I took the battery completely out of the unit, from the bottom panel. The battery showed zero volts, looked like it was wasted. After I took the battery totally out of the 1000, it started to show some life. My guess is the BMS got stuck and didn’t allow current to flow in or out. When I attached the battery back into the unit, attaching the positive cable then got a spark on the negative cable when I attached it and a volt ohm meter showed not zero volts but 12.20 volts. Probably had a BMS (battery management system) problem that reset. It’s in the garage now sending AC to a circulation fan.
