    For those scared of fusing the socket to the cylinder head, we removed mine yesterday with a deep socked bolt extractor kit. Took it out in two seconds with no fear of making the situation worse. Cool idea though!!!

    I'll be doing this sometime this week. I also had the thought of how much putty to use. I'm planning to grab some of the kids play dou and one of the old plugs to figure out. Will probably be a mess, but easy way to get an idea and not overload the socket.

    • @BargainPaper
      @BargainPaper  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For sure. You definitely want enough to fully meld the socket with the spark plug so that it grabs the whole plug. But you don’t want some to come out and have it make your socket become one with the cylinder head.

      Heres the thing. My understanding was that had I not attempted this or this had broken the spark plug, either way the head needed to come off for a fix. I had called a dealership prior to attempting this and they said the truck needed to be towed in to have the head removed.

    I got one that will unscrew but reaches a point where it stops turning, it has a steal head. Spark plugs haven't been changed in 5 years. It's a 1988 ford F150 with 5.0, So sprayed it with penetrating oil then screw it back in, then out again but still hitting a point where it stops turning. So I screw it back in, may have to get help with that one plug. Any suggestions?

    Hey, I plan on trying this with JB weld Steel Stik putty. How'd you spread the putty in the socket? was it just a "stuff in" to almost full or like a spread around the hex points?

    • @BargainPaper
      @BargainPaper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pera Unfortunately this isn’t an exact science. I just stuffed it in there. I wanted to make sure that there was enough that some was displaced/molded around the spark plug when I pushed it on there.

    Can you describe more on what the issue with getting the plug out was? Was it just stuck? Or was it spinning but you couldn't get it to come out? Mine won't come out. Spins until you try to lift it then it gets stuck. I'm guessing the helicoil has slipped and expanded.

    • @BargainPaper
      @BargainPaper  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The previous owner/mechanic had stripped/broken off the hex collar on the spark plug. It was essentially, a column of porcelain threaded into a cylinder head.

    • @BargainPaper
      @BargainPaper  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ll be honest, that’s a bit puzzling. It spins but won’t come up… Man. I would probably be doing everything I could to apply some sort of vertical force on the socket while spinning it. Honestly, if it were me, and I was committed to the point where my socket is bonded… why not bond an extension onto the socket? Godspeed!

    • @BargainPaper

    @larincollins06 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Brilliant. There aren't any stripped bolt removal kits that'll fit down there. The kit ford makes is great for the old spark plugs that snap, but these newer ones strip easily because of the angle the hole was bored. Was that #4 you were trying to get? That's the one I'm stuck on.

    • @BargainPaper

      Larin Collins I don't remember off hand what the cylinder numbers are, but it's was the second from the front on the passenger side. I'll be honest, I didn't think this was going to work as well as it did, but what was my next option? Pull the head? Good luck!

    • @BargainPaper
      @BargainPaper  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is the big question, isn't it? I just guessed as to how much I thought would mold to the plug but not too much so it would get onto the head. Let's be honest, the fact that I was at this point, I was willing to risk it.

      Oh man, I’m so sorry to hear that! This is going to sound odd but try to follow me here. If you have some of those rubber gloves (something like what I’m wearing in the video) and you took your socket, and slid it into the thumb part of the glove, so that when you put the socket on the head of the bolt, the glove kinda wrapped around the head of it… it might be enough to fill in/grip the head and allow you to loosen it. Does that make sense?
