I never comment on your videos, but can I just say that you are making amazing progress! I have run multiple marathons and ultra marathons, and I have never run 35km all on my own! I've always run in a group as it's much easier. Well done on completing that distance on your own. Just slow your pace if you need to when you do long runs. It's about time on your legs. You will have a fantastic marathon!

You really do have to embrace the high and lows through marathon training, it certainly isn't linear and everyones journey is so different which makes it all so interesting to learn more about yourself. I came out of my first marathon a different person and I am so thankful. I love that you're being authentic and showing how hard the training is, but nothing beats crossing that finish line! Best of luck Holly, I've loved watching your progress :) x

Holly! I never comment on videos, but I just have to thank you for sharing your struggle with us. I’m training for my first ever marathon and suddenly had my first mental break down 9km into a 16km “deload” week run. It led me to believe I was in over my head and started to doubt whether or not I could actually accomplish this goal of mine. But seeing your struggle made me so emotional and acknowledge that those moments are all part of the process. Thank you for helping me to feel more validated in this experience. Best of luck to you in your training !!

literally bingeing your videos right now! obsessed. i started the couch to 5k last year and stopped when winter hit as with my life schedule i didnt want to be running in the dark, but with spring coming and having lighter mornings and evenings youve inspired me to go for it again. Being a mumma of 2 young boys i want to do something for myself but also to make them proud, so thank you! adore you x x x

  • @clemencewassen7421
    @clemencewassen7421 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I'm also training for Paris and had a very similar experience yesterday - I ran a fantastic 34km last weekend and had a tempo 25 before starting to taper. And it didn't go well at all, my knee was hurting and I couldn't hit my splits and had to stop at 24km and was really beating myself up about it. It was also the only run that's gone badly in this specific marathon build, same as you, and it was very reassuring to have that perspective. This is all part of the training! We got this!

Marathon training is no joke, you really are training yourself physically and mentally. Some runs just end up being shit for any number of reasons. What I try and remember is that as long as I'm consistent most of time, missing a run or ending one early doesn't do any harm.

I just ran my own 20 miles last weekend. Your mind does play many tricks along the way. Marathon training is not only physical, but mental as well. You have train your mind in believing and staying calm in tough times.

I love your comment that it is nervous running long distances for first time. I find it very easy to run short, very fast intervals, but hard to run long distances, by myself. I know I can do it, but I worry will be muscle endurance be ok, will I get any niggles or soreness and have to stop. What if I'm a long way from home. I know exactly what you are going through. I used to run where it was very scenic but not lots of people. I love your honest commentary and emotion. Running long, even at very easy pace is so much harder than people imagine, especially doing a new long distance for the first time. Well done!!

Well done for showing the highs and lows of training ❤

Well done on your progress ang good luck with your marathon. I'm the exact opposite to you as love interval training but not that keen on long runs though I do try and get a 10mile/16K Sunday run in as necessary for endurance. HM is my absolue limit for racing but admire folks who take on the marathon which is such a brutal event.

I was wondering if you could do a full running Q&A. Also especially on the topic of digestion. I know this is very personal/TMI, but I was wondering if you could talk about, coffee before running yes/no, bloating, ... You said in one of your videos (a while back) that you sometimes have a few issues with digestion due to PCOS. I ordered the digestion vitamins from my protein after seeing you talk so highly of them! Excited to try them!

Hello matey. Ok. Bit of back story. I came into running late (I’m 48) Hated sports at school. Just decided to do a Santa run one year to raise money for charity and to maybe build my confidence. That was 6 years ago. I’ve done about 15 half marathons and 40 other events over the years. What you are experiencing is totally normal. The body is not a machine, it can’t cope with the same punishment day after day. When you run, you will have good days and bad days. It’s all part of the journey. Don’t worry, yes if a bit of a cry helps relieve the pressure then by all means do it. Then come back stronger. OR take a step back, do something different and then try again later in the week. I’ve been running 20km runs in prep for a half marathon coming up soon. However the other day I went out and after 15 minutes my legs were just hurting so much. I had to stop, some stretching, energy gel, just walked for five minutes and took in the lovely morning views and then tried again. Yes I was pissed with myself but it happens sometimes. Please don’t get upset my friend. Just make sure you rest well, eat well and you will come back stronger. 😊

A comment a year late(r)... here we go. I started running 10,5 weeks ago. I came across your channel at the start of my training, started watching a lot (and now realising I didn't even subscribe yet, oops) and now, after 9 or so weeks, I'm back to this video. Why? Because it's the only video that stuck with me about having an off-run. I had such a bad run yesterday, the second run of week 11 and I just couldn't continue. In my second interval out of six I wanted to give up, stopped multiple times in between, and after the third interval I gave up. But mind you, I was on the outskirts of town so I had to walk 1,5km back home and I cried too. I felt so shitty and dissapointed and not even because of my efforts, but mostly because giving up is not in my dictionary. It had never happened in those 10,5 weeks either that this was my only "way out". And that's why I came back to this video. To see your mentality, to learn and to not feel alone

  • @jessasughroue887

I know this video is from a while ago, but once I get into the really long runs (16+ miles), I have to go every other week instead of every week. My body just doesn't recover from a long run in one week. When I try to do super long runs in back to back weeks, I feel like absolute garbage.

Sometimes you have a great training block but your not with it on the race day etc.. recovery is important, electrolytes and carb ‘centered’ meals. Do you have a goal time or is it just to finish?

Last weekend I was running in a group on the promenade and the groups pace was 30s faster than mine but I said “fk it let’s try” and if I can’t keep up, cool, I’ll just slow it down but finish the run.
My boyfriend was running at my pace (2mins slower than his) and he kept looking at me and checking if I was okay cos I slowed down.
I IMMEDIATELY felt anxious and overwhelmed. I knew I wasn’t keeping up with the pace group, plus I wasn’t keeping up with my boyfriend. I felt insecure and uncomfortable with myself. It brought me back to struggling through my first 2.5km. And I had trouble breathing, mini anxiety attack and I just stopped to cry.
If I wasn’t running in a group, I would have just stopped my run. But I felt the need to keep up appearances and keep going. I stopped a couple times to shake off the anxiety and I just kept going to finish the 7km.
I was hormonal and stressed out and didn’t know how to communicate this to my partner, I felt like he should’ve just picked up that I was struggling. But he taught me the same lesson - not every run is a good one. And that’s okay ❤️❤️❤️❤️

    • @foxsbestlaidplans

i work 7 on/7off and the bulk of the 7 days on are 10hr shifts. it is HARD to convince myself to go out and do the run some days. especially when training for spring marathons, i do at least half of my runs after dark. so i have a lighted vest and a headlamp. i try to choose areas of town where there are lots of businesses open for my longer runs so i know there will be people around and better lighting (only negative here is being out on a long run, starving, and running past all those restaurants full of people eating delicious smelling food haha). and then just find good podcasts. good podcasts are a lifesaver!
when i have to run solo and am not feeling it, sometimes scrolling through my Strava or Garmin feeds helps me get motivated. also if you have regular like 9-5 hours at work, look for the running group in your area! we have 2 running groups here that do midweek track and pub runs at like 630pm on weekdays. that way you have friends holding you accountable

Holly baby My beautiful love, I am in love with you and I love you very much. Is there a cure for your absence, dear, if there is, can you send it to me? I can't stand being without you, darling.
