My husband and I are coming for the Olympics. He is really excited, as this is a bucket list experience for him. I know it will be hot and crowded, but it will also be a unique experience as well. I just came back from visiting Paris this week. I thought I was so smart visiting a month before the Olympic, but several central metro stops like Place de la Concorde were closed, adding so much walking to my day. Thank you Alain for all your tips. Your videos and answers to comments really helped. Looking forward to visiting again with all the construction gone.
@@paristoptips yes, thank you Alain, it’s always enjoyable to be in Paris. These inconveniences were not a deal breaker for me, but my young daughter had trouble walking the extra couple of metro stops. And I can imaged older and less mobile people will find the metro stops closed to be a problem.
Greetings fellow earthlings, Alain I have noticed over the last month or so is the number of people who have booked hollidays during the Olympics without realizing. Maybe a video on how to rescue a trip during the Olympics, if thats possible.
Honestly, I really don't know. It really depends on everyone's specific situation. Maybe a good opportunity to vsit lesser known sites in Paris and the region...
There is far more to Paris than the !st Arr. and the major monuments, It's the Parissians that make Paris not the tourist attractions, Its the best city in the world full of the most marvellous people.
Thank you for your honesty. I had originally booked to visit Paris for 14 Julliet celebrations, but I found out that the Champs de Mars would be closed on that day, so crowds would not be able to gather for the classical music concert and fireworks. Then a month ago I heard that some other famous sites would also be closed in July. I thought, do I want to see Paris full of scaffolding and seating areas? The answer was no, and I'm not even a sports fan! So I cancelled the trip. I have booked for next year. Hopefully Paris will be back looking its best by then.
If what we are hearing is accurate - that hotels are not reaching their predicted bookings and lots of Parisians leaving Paris during the Games - it could be a much less crowded Paris than predicted. This and other 'don't come to Paris' videos are helping too!
Sage advice. Totally understand where you are coming from and if one of the reasons to come was a long need to visit various attractions, having them covered in scaffolding or even closed defeats that purpose. And no one wants to spend hours standing in line waiting for something in the heat of summer. Plus you can get more bang for your euro going at another time.
Absolutely! If people come because they want to see the OG, then, great. But if they imagine to see the Paris they dreamt of, then it's not the right timing.
Eiffel’s background from Place du Trocadero (a great Insta spot) seems to be obstructed by fences and scaffolding but it’s good that you managed to enter there as seen in your intro, Alain.

I'll stay in my daughter's student apartment. So, no concern. Thanks for your videos! I'm going to D day beach and Mont Saint Michel during this stay.
I’ll be there since they won’t allow me to cancel my hotel reservations without a significant fee. So I do hope it will be an enjoyable experience for me.
