It could be just a city violation or eyesore. So they might have them only do the front for cosmetic appealing to the neighborhood or to resolve neighbor complaint of high grass. Or like you mentioned they may save it for another video

FYI- Depending on the state that you are working in, sometimes the Backyard is considered PRIVATE PROPERTY whereas the front yard is in open view of the public. No privacy is expected from viewing or work for such abandoned/forgotten properties. If no one is available to give you permission to enter a backyard, then you could be fined for trespassing. I am retired, but I had a rental property clean-up business. Learned from experience.

Letting residential yards, in neighborhoods, get this far out of hand is ridiculous! How can the neighbors allow this to continue for over a decade?! It baffles me when people are okay living in and with these conditions and would rather shrug their shoulders than team up and spend an afternoon improving the neighborhood. I bet they are the same folks who think nothing of littering and neglecting their pets.
If I was the neighbor I would have added their yard, at least the one connected to my yard in my weekly mowing schedule. First, I wouldn’t want to look at that everyday, second I wouldn’t want scavenger and other unwelcome people being attached to it, then you have mice, rat, and every other creepy crawling thing. I also would have called that yard in to the city.
If this hasn't been cut in over a decade that means nobody has lived in that house for over a decade. One follows the other. WHY? Simple question. With a simple answer - greed. The owners want either too much in the way of rent OR a sale price. It's wasteful.

I cannot fathom how anybody can neglect their yard for a decade! The front was bad enough but you guys did a great job on it. Now you have that horrific backyard to contend with so good luck with that. Honestly I am surprised the HOA if there is one in that neighborhood has not said anything.
You tackled a severe job. Your machete work does a fast job on seedling trees and I admired your besting the Johnson Grass clumps with a mattock. A lot of people leave them partially cut down, when they can't figure out how to finish them off. You may have missed the idea of Landscape Archeology, working on an overgrown yard and refinding what was originally existing. It is almost startling to see you find a front door, a whole fence line, even the appearance of a house and a walkway...and you are in the front yard. Nice work facing all the overgrowth. Hope to see the video if you also do the back.

If the neighbors cared they would have cut it. It wasn’t that wide. If each neighbor cut another 20 feet
it actually only took us 2 hours, we had plenty of neighbors come out and thank us for our work!

In the pacific, we call that a bush knife. A great tool for gardening,cutting branches, cutting grass and a butcher's knife. God bless
